Great thing this comment will be dugg down! - andrewrocks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+50Downloaded and already deleted. Crap content + ads = might as well just watch TV.
- zulfy26, on 10/12/2007, -22/+51The only problem with Joost is their lack of "good" content. I mean, sure they have a few episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and CSI, but nothing else on there is really going to replace TV or YouTube(etc).
- Fire4Effect, on 10/10/2007, -7/+35Yeah, that 2.8% of the market is the only thing holdng them back......
- Supadude, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Joost could be really awesome. But they really need a ton more content. Also there are still problems with lagging video. The resolution leaves a little to be desired as well. But other than that, its got a lot going for it.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9It's kind of like all the channels you get with basic cable that you never actually watch - only without the channels that you do.
- donte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If I invite you to a free lunch will you settle down?
- SlimFastForYou, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I don't care too much for all the Beta + Invite web services, but on the other hand, it makes sense for a company who wants to perfect a system before showing everyone and their grandma the "Sign Up Now" button. By delaying the public release, the company can see how their platform scales up and prepare. You don't have to use the newest "bleeding edge" services, just ignore everything that is designated as beta if it pleases you and just check them out after announcement.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Coming from the UK this is so far pretty useless. We have a smaller selection and the server is often slow. I wouldn't elevate it to a superior status just yet although I do think it has potential. However, at this rate it will be another 3 - 4 years before we have a large selection of programmes to choose from.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Wow... Logan, I think you just got owned.
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Joost SUCKS - why? Because only people in the US get the decent stuff, everyone else gets all the crap...
I had high hopes, had an invite from the beginning, but its let me down big time... - insllvn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6anyone else curious as to what the hell is going on hear? is joost burying critisism (asking not accusing)? is this a glitch? diggbots run amok as someone above me suggested? wtf?
- macwac, on 10/10/2007, -12/+16Joost was cool when they did beta testing.. i tried it over half a year ago had it for 2-3 days and deleted.. re-installed a few months ago, still crap. Not going to do it again! They lack content and they limit you by geographic location which is hopeless.. i didn't get internet to watch the same shows i can watch on TV a year to two later.
- Spelvin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I did the beta, ran through several versions of their software, and none of it matters without content....
Now I just stream Watch now movies or TV episodes from Netflix and I LOVE IT!
Neflix honestly has better quality video, and more choices...their interface sucks when used with a HTPC and a projector, but the quality is there. - NJPENSO, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5tvuplayer > *
- jtcalhoun, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Joost is not Windows-only, as it also works on Mac.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The only time I've ever seen decent resolution and low lag in streaming online video was with the DivX codec. If Joost incorporated that somehow, they would be better able to stream high-quality content.
- Nefi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6but i like Bono
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Thanks to god that bittorrent will always be there.
- joegibes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I like how joost works (and it's not THAT laggy) but I just don't want to watch anything on it.
Maybe NBC could find a new partner... - superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Sorry to say, but ads are the reason they have content...
What you really want is better content, and thus better ads which would at least be marginally enjoyable. - jhodapp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Agreed. I also have a Mac so I can use it on there, but I want to enjoy Joost on my Linux computer too. All of the technologies used are open source and run on linux, why can't they just release a Linux version today?
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wouldn't it be nice if the same douchebag didn't keep posting the same statement fifteen times in a row?
- SilentJay74, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I think that a Stage 6 or Divx channel with Joost would be awesome. I have to agree with you there.
- treeromeo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I think I'll stick with uTorrent.
- greenmountain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just tried it.I am a big fan of ad supported content.
Download software?

For what?
To make my hot rod PC feel like a piece of *****.
All For youtube quality video that stutters.
Even if I reduced it to a 3 inch screen.
I haven't had stuttering video for, dammit I forget the last time I dealt with stuttering video.
I am pissed because I know better.
For crappy quality that stutters. For a clunky interface, for search that doesn't work, for "channels" or favorites that don't work.Just drag the icon? Wrong.
It was completely horrid. It is nowhere near ready.
I actually feel bad, because it looks like someone is really trying there.
Maybe they can fix it. But they have managed to make streaming video a difficult, clunky and frustrating experience.
There is no excuse for that. They may be able to rework it with standard streaming solutions.
But this is just not getting it done. - iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I've got a great idea to improve Digg - how about idiot commenters don't post the same damn thing ten times in a row?
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Seriously, superkendall, STFU. You're spamming the boards. Yes, so are the digg-storm, but you're not making things any better.
- Marty4975, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This will probably get dugg down, but I have to say, I think a lot of the criticism is knee-jerk and mostly from people who haven't really spent enough time with Joost to warrant the wholesale condemnations that are being made.
For example, if you're into cosmology, space, physics, etc. check out the Space Rip channel, and watch Einstein's Messengers or Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity...THEY ARE BOTH AWESOME, AND THE PLAYBACK IS FLAWLESS. - iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Aren't they working on a Linux version? I'm pretty sure I heard about it somewhere.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thing is, it's only one commercial per show. So yes, the content (for the moment) sucks, but once that improves there's no reason not to watch.
Besides, the ads are the only reason it can be legally free. So don't knock it. - reubencm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1boo!
- CurlyHayami, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Welp-only alternative to mIRC I can see now for Transformers G1
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd rather have people burying than spamming.
- dragazis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Thanks for ***** over PowerPC users! So no Joost for older Mac's...dumb.
- jedinate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Every month or so, I open up Joost to see if it has improved. I never see enough compelling content to make me stay.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow, you're an ass AND an idiot. What kind of retarded do you have to be to think anyone is going to fall for a chain mail threat? ***** off and die.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Neaveru
- Thuktun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Joost is trying hard to look like TV on demand. The commercials aren't so bad, but sometimes they repeat the same ones over and over, and that's just annoying; I can't imagine the creators of those commercials want to have their product associated with annoyance.
Also, some people have been reporting a problem with Joost where it will only run the first time after it's installed, crashing every time after that. To run it on machines where that's reported, you have to uninstall it and reinstall it /every time/. That's far more annoying in my book. - superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Just children pooping in the sandbox.
Like all children, after some time they go away and the adults can clean things up again. - Mantees, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Digg needs an "ignore this user" feature
- mhmdkhamis, on 12/18/2007, -0/+0http://www.paramegsoft.com/forum/
http://directory.paramegsoft.com/ - superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I've got a great idea to improve Digg - anyone who buried more than half the comments in this thread, gets banned and IP banned for good measure.
Next, ask me about my seventh generation solution for said users that return.
This post brought to you by the Number Nine. - DevlinD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1BINGO!!
- geddon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1There is a lot of great video content on the internet. Next New Networks and G4TV are setting the standards for a brave new industry. I realize their content doesn't compare to the CSI / Reality TV crap the public is addicted to -- which is a GOOD THING!!! Projects like these lead to better content "by the people, for the people." Please, show your support for something other than corporate culture!!!!
- smotpoker1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1checked them out a long time ago was not impressed.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The problem with the ads is that there aren't enough advertisers jumping on the bandwagon. That's why you see the same hair-care commercial ten times a night, and maybe one ad for Resident Evil. If there were more advertisers, there would be more variety, and they could target their ads to their audience better.
I've never had the crashing bug. - iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Older macs are going out, and have been for years. Granted, yes, they should have a version for you and for us Linux geeks, but it's obviously not going to be their top priority. OS X and Windows are their tops, because that's what people use, and that's what is marketable and profitable for them to invest their time in.
- picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1ugg after all that- going there, finding a movie, registering, downloading- just to find no OS X client
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I will not be silenced! Yes I am spamming this stoy, but I am otherwise a decent Digg contributor. Is not the messaage I pass along accurate? Why is it acceptible for others to wantonly trash a story like this?
I refuse to let Digg (or myself) be ruled by fear or childish mobs. I will stand for information and the freedom to be heard over the din of the Burystorm. -
