- Hoxie, on 10/28/2007, -0/+49I wish they would get some content worth watching.
- fcukbush, on 10/21/2007, -2/+36Let's hope the browser version works a bit better than the software version.
- austin63, on 10/21/2007, -2/+26Video in a browser, now thats original.
- DarkDx, on 10/22/2007, -0/+22I see your point.
- xobecide, on 10/22/2007, -0/+13And I raise you half my colon;
- str3ama, on 10/21/2007, -0/+11Joost is late on the bandwagon, too late: http://www.paulyanez.com/swfs/j_prototype.swf
- austin63, on 10/21/2007, -5/+12.
- izzie2, on 10/20/2007, -1/+8sorry for the bad link http://www.onthetoob.com/Feeds
- dn11, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7have you tried it recently? they have about 10x more content then they had in the closed beta - but the interface is slow, clunky and basically unusable now
- slasktratten, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6The biggest problem with joost, in it's current state, is that when you power it down(power button style) it goes into some strange "stand-by" mode. What it does then is running in the background using your upload bandwidth. Yeah, you can turn it off by right clicking (but that didn't work the last time i tried, it activated the joost window again) or by holding down CTRL when "powering down". I wonder how many won't notice that when they run the release-version? I mean that is almost stealing your upload without telling you.
- izzie2, on 10/20/2007, -2/+8Yesterday they uploaded a ton of stuff.Fantasy Island,married with children,I dream of Jeannie,bewitched,whats happenin,partridge family,Benson,the monkees just to name a few.Look for new channels at http://www.onthetube.com/Feeds
- DarkDx, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4Wouldn't a stream feed be recordable? I smeel DRM:
- potterboy, on 10/20/2007, -1/+4OMG, Bewitched and Partridge Family. GTG!
- roberto_deneero, on 10/20/2007, -4/+7Joost was ok until Miro came out. No login, no server error *****, no problems. Miro is the only way to go. Joost sucks.
- BryanJK, on 10/21/2007, -2/+5and again, something worth watching :P
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -0/+2The latest Joost on the web is here http://www.paulyanez.com/labs/joostbeta1/index.htm ...
- skunkman62, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2miro sucks too but its better than joost.
- anshuman, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2:( will suck . cant they simply port mozilla XUL windows clients to OSX-Linux?
- ramd3z, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2agreed, mine crashes alot when switching using the left menu. (ubuntu version)
- physicx, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2True, but Joost's architecture was built for a client download which is an entirely different ballgame than the web. There is definitely going to be legacy and performance issues.
- inactive, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2still woese than websites like http://www.likevid.com/
- krazedkaoz, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2mine doesn't crash on ubuntu, windows xp it does a little bit.
- DMDekoth, on 10/21/2007, -0/+2I read Joust and was hoping it was. Joust is awesome.
- IPTVisNOW, on 10/21/2007, -0/+2Seems like Mike Volpi had to say that since he was on stage at a Web 2.0 conference and also the recent pressure he must have felt of Techcrunch stating that the clock is ticking for Joost - with the new flash player support for H.264 http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/10/12/the-clock-is- ...
Adobe will be entering the game with their own flash video player that does all the things that Joost does http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Media_Player
Chime.tv is another excellent solution that has been around for quite some time.
There is also browser based Joost clone http://www.paulyanez.com/labs/joost/ that's been online since July and an updated version http://www.paulyanez.com/labs/joostbeta1/ that emerged just a few weeks after the beta was released.
The one common thing betweeen these are the use of flash as the technology. Joost has invested over a year in XUL.
Let's hope Joost is serious in wanting to make a browser based version. It might make more sense to just buy a solution instead of trying to getting into the web development arena since so far they've been building a client based application. - inactive, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1Joost is much improved. I used it early on, and it was slow and had little programming. Now, it isn't as slow as it was (for me), and has a lot more to offer.
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1yes such high quality video...give me a break. It looks like ***** from youtube.
- macewan, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1Chime.tv & joostbeta1 are awesome - thanks for the links.
- macewan, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1I lost interest in Joost after months of being promised a beta version for Linux. We were strung along just to get buzz.
- JazzyJeff, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1I find nothing wrong with this new version except for it's 'My Channels' directory which no longer lets you simply add channels to it yourself. Instead, the list is apparently sorted in the order of which channels you watch the most.
- billcube2, on 10/20/2007, -4/+5It's made in Mozilla XUL, so, basically, it's already on the same platform as Firefox ;-)
- SickBoy, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1Yes, I'm a glutton for abuse. How do I invest heavily in this Joost thing?
- Waterrat, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1 For Windows and the Mac only.
- CPops, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1What's the point of porting it to a browser if they don't add a decent selection of quality shows to go along with the Indie stuff?
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -3/+3I tested Joost - and was dissapointed. Infact it is so borring, sucks big time! Deleted it less than 30min after i installed it. Content sucks - it is not even close to being TV like - more YouTube like. It just has videos or prerecorded content, no live tv, live sports... and no porn or hot naked babes or any other interesting content. They were promissing so much and delivered so little!
So far the best TV website out there is http://www.chooseandwatch.com/ . It is nothing like Joost. It aggregates streaming video channels from around the web, from a mixture of mainstream TV channels to more amateur, independent networks. It claims to have 435 channels. From a content selection standpoint C&W beats Joost hands down. It even offers adult content area – nice :)
Looks like Joost has all the media attention and everyone blogs about it only because of its famous founders - not to mention they probably pay to be on digg so often. - jim0bob, on 03/02/2008, -0/+0Have a look at http://watchonbroadband.com they have loads of stuff listed to watch, with no wait to download.
- AtWorkSurfer, on 10/21/2007, -0/+0It's not a secret that it does this. Joost is widely referred to as a "peer-to-peer" video streaming service. That's how it's able to provide such high quality video to so many users simultaneously. Plus, it says in the EULA:
2.1.3. The Joost Software will utilize the processor, bandwidth and hard drive (or other memory or storage hardware) and/or cache of your computer (or other applicable device) for the limited purpose of facilitating the communication between, and the transmittal of data, content, programming, services or features to, you and other Joost Software users, and to facilitate the operation of the network of computers running instances of the Joost Software.
The Joost website contains detailed information for Windows users regarding Joost's use of bandwidth and how to avoid background bandwidth usage during periods of non-use. - skyfire1, on 10/21/2007, -3/+2Is this about Joust? That game sucked.
- etduck, on 10/20/2007, -2/+0i think so/.
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -3/+1Let's hope that you die.
- loneraven, on 10/21/2007, -15/+6Joost sucks. The end.

What is Digg?
