- mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -7/+295FYI, there was no "hacking" involved. Someone simply realized that he was not giving credit where credit was due, and renamed an image file.
goatse much? - willk281, on 10/12/2007, -4/+119Internet: 1
McCain: 0 - hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+114I wish this kind of thing happened more often
- wonderchemist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+76What? A US politician not giving credit for someone credit for their work/idea when they use it!? You can knock me over with a feather!
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59hackers? he changed an image. ZOMG TEH h0x0r.
- FizixMan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41And I would trust/respect politicians who use MySpace because...?
Seriously, I don't see how changing the image can be any more damaging to his political career than him having a MySpace page in the first place.
Props to the template creator though for taking full advantage of a unique situation. ;) - Moocat, on 10/12/2007, -9/+44-chris9902 "seems a bit childish. Mike could've just sent an email explaining the problem not be a dick about it. Doesn't make you look very respectable as a CEO of a news site if this is your PR."
If you've ever had your web host suspend your account or an extra $500 charge because some internet nub thought it was OK to link to your server and post it on something as high traffic as digg (or a senators web page on myspace) then you'd be whistling a different tune. A little prank like this was just that, a prank, it doesn't make him a dick for getting back at what probably cost him money. Would you rather he sue for the time spent informing him of infringement, hosting costs and copyright infringement? I thought not.
As a last note, not knowing that hotlinking can bork someone elses servers makes you less of a dick, but still a dick none the less. If anything, an apology (from the offender, not Mike) should probably be submitted and the whole matter will dissapear in less than a week. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39hey dont worry i took a screen of the whole thing and posted to my flickr

Look at the time stamp of the message and put some thought into it. - orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32I, too, now support Mr. McCain's platform! More girl on girl action, please!
- z00k, on 10/12/2007, -8/+39I'm really expecting hundreds of Goatse/Tubgirl Images... *Doesn't click the link*

Perhaps you should crop out your "Death & Sexual Threats" search from your screenshot before you post it. - thewump, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Like OMG, I'm like SO not going to make him one of my Top 8 Friends now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28hysterical, and still up on Myspace as of 9:34 AM.
- itachinin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23This is what happens when 70 year olds try and have people create a myspace for them.
- mvandemar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Ya know, in reality that guy must have one boring porn collection.
- PRocker267, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18why the hell did you link to the same exact page we're already on?!
- cdharrison, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Thanks for the spam, retard. DON'T CLICK THE LINK.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@Lennalf
Did you even read the article? Security and MySpace for that matter have nothing to do with it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotlinking - fliz, on 10/12/2007, -12/+24Republicans are the one's with the sickest porn.
The more you suppress yourself, the nastier your secret habits become. - dynamx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11http://mike.newsvine.com/_news/2007/03/27/633799-hacking-john-mccain
straight from the culprit (co-founder of newsvine.com) - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17you couldn't wait 3 more minutes???
amature! - d3vmax, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21Story buried!
As mr1337 said, there was no hacking involved.
Arrington, stop fu*king using inaccurate headlines just 'cause they sound sensational! - LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16I didn't, but yippee ki-yay mother *****
- arcele, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that one of his blog entries is "John McCain will Announce Candidacy for President in April"......is it really necessary to announce that you will announce that you're running for president....hasn't he announced that he'll be running for President by announcing that he'll announce that he'll be running for president?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8He's not cool enough to be my Myspace friend.
- mlw4428, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Title is sorta misleading. His page wasn't hacked at all...the owner of the site of the images they were linking to changed one so that it said that. Also I don't think it's really his fault...but the fault of the code-stealing web designer who made his page.
However I too support the marriage of two (sexy) women. - slasherx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Probably a conspiracy by the inventor of the internet, Gore.
- Fizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5FYI 09:34 PST is not 13:34 GMT. I'm going to assume you meant 09:34 PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) which is GMT -7. Therefore, it was 16:34 GMT.
- colinm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Why can't I type (for example) "0934PST to GMT" into Google and get a conversion?
I submitted it to them as a suggestion ages ago... :( - IbnDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@CompPete
I'm guessing the "Death & Sexual Threats Against Fe" finishes "male blogger". It's the story about Kathy Sierra
@mikefitz2
Not cool taking creds for someone else's stuff - rebotfc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Ever since McCain started to support Creationism and changed his tune on state supported Torture i've lost all respect for him.
- TheBlindGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Mike Davidson is a hero.
Someone please send him a congratulatory fruit basket. - luvlyssa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Pretty funny to me. And I happen to like John McCain.
Honestly Mike Davidson (or someone for him) likely did e-mail the McCain campaign...But the chances they read all their e-mail is slim to none.
It was pretty dumb of whomever made the myspace page to do this. Guess they'll live and learn... - carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't bring myself to go to the page.
I'm picturing it with a sparkly animated background and illegible text with a Justin Timberlake song playing in the background.
And a comment from Giuliani saying, "wazzup McC! hollatcha boy!! peace out!"
I just don't want to unravel that mental image. It's too fun. - Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2McCain has his college staffers run any online stuff so he will never see it let alone realize the redundancy of what he is saying online.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"Ever since McCain started to support Creationism and changed his tune on state supported Torture i've lost all respect for him."
McCain doesn't support Creationism or torture. You should find other news sources besides Digg. This is why senators never get elected president. Anything they vote on is twisted by those running smear campaigns. - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think we're missing the big picture here guys. McCain diggs women kissing and isn't that the most important thing to remember?
- carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...
- gemlarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apparently whatever staffer "fixed" the page does not know how to spell either. WTF is a gorup?
- Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1John McCain's staff is most likely not in any trouble at all. McCain could not tell you what a my space is. He still refuses to use a computer or read email let alone go to any websites.
- beHuman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I was having an extremely crappy day until I saw this. Thank you so much, Mike Davidson.
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ DigitalOmnivore
If it happened to him it's like that he deserved it. If his campaign suffers it just goes to show how shallow his supporters are if their that sensitive about gay marriage issues. A war record has nothing to do with what was posted on his myspace and I don't even know why you thought it was worth mentioning. - greenlight2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You win.
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1make sure to block/report the spamming user...i think if that happens enough their account gets nuked!
- mikeindustries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi, it's Mike D.... perpetrator of this prank. Not sure why I'm finally noticing this Digg thread two weeks after the prank, but two things are amazing to me:
1. Something like 40 people felt the need to comment and point out that this wasn't a "hack"... even though to "hack" really just means "to quickly make something perform a duty it wasn't previously performing".
2. The Digg commenting system successfully suppressed all but a few of these valueless me-too comments. I was only able to see them when I turned down my threshold. Good job Digg!
Also, the McCain prank made the Daily Show. Woohoo! Video is here:
http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2007/03/john-mccain-newsvine-myspace-prank-on-daily-show - jdent08, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3that is beautiful.....
A good prank like that is a work of art. - Flanker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Those of you with MySpace accounts should post comments thanking him for his change of heart. :-p
- po43292, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is this the new way to campaign for hopeful presidency? Really? Myspace?
