So, that would keep ads off of Wikipedia, but give the Wikipedia that ability to make ~$6M a year. Most folks leave Wikipedia for a Google search anyway... there really wouldn't be any harm by have a second search box on wikipedia (at least not that I can think of).
this all started because Wikipedia needs some funds to keep the site up and running and pay for the core staff... I'm not just trying to screw up the Wikipedia... I'm trying to work on a solution that a) makes wikipedia more stable and b) does so without causing any damage to it.
I know some folks think I'm the anti-christ over here at digg, but for real!

- daveydweeb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Huh? Wikipedia made almost $400,000 from its December 2005 fundraising campaign, and is able to budget three-quarters of a million dollars toward keeping the site up last year. Wikipedia runs just fine with the money it currently makes, thanks to the generosity of its community.
I think, before you argue the benefits of advertising -- of ANY kind -- you really need to demonstrate why Wikipedia needs that money in the first place: http://daveydweeb.com/2006/10/31/calacanis-responds-but-still-doesnt-get-it/
