- spectre, on 10/12/2007, -6/+68It's gonna suck to be that Flash developer in a few hours. I'm sure once Jet Blue figures out why their site is coming to a screeching halt, somebody's ass is going to be in the fire.
- ers35, on 10/12/2007, -10/+67Wow...It really works!
- tHePeOPle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44@spectre
Either that, or he'll get a promotion. This is massive free advertising for them. Now I where I can go on Jet Blue. - dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -11/+48kensho..
hes just speculating on how this was discovered? what's so hard to understand? - Magic07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23My money is on a smart ass developer who thought hey this will be a funny thing to do and no one will ever know unless I tell them. So he goes and brags to his friends and hey it ends up on digg. Sweet egg, great show, random as hell.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Very interesting, this is some of the flash code responsible. No need for holding shift down, fyi. Brings up some questions about how far you can make flash go to listen for key input...
mykeyListener.onKeyUp = function ()
{
if (pbjTime == "pbj")
{
pbj._visible = true;
pbj.pbj.setMedia("jb_fg_pbt.flv", "FLV");
pbj.pbj.play();
pbjTime = "";
} // end if - SoccerBoy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32"It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time!!!"
Fantastic find!!! - TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21If you right click you get a Flash menu that has "This movie is copyrighted by JetBlue Airways"
Someone is going to wish they never put this clip there after the traffic picks up. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Haha, how awesome is that?
Oh, and the "copyrighted by JetBlue" thing could be a big problem once this hits the front page - ziggystardust, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I have no idea how it was discovered. I was sitting in my 7x7 cubicle and my buddy showed me. On to Digg I thought to myself. I can only assume that it was planted there for a good laugh.
In any event its a great egg and I hope they leave it there! - drtyfrnk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18This is a great easter egg the programmers put in there.
IT'S PEANUTBUTTERJELLY TIME! - smspence, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17@ zeldafan: No, he does NOT mean that someone else edited it to do that.
What he means is that whoever designed Jet Blue's website secretly put that into the .swf file. The way someone else found this out could possibly be because they got bored, downloaded the .swf file and went poking around inside it and found it. Zeldafan, you have no idea what you are talking about.
@ kensho: you also have no idea what you are talking about. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Well -- people won't buy a flight on JetBlue this minute because of this.
BUT -- we're all here talking about JetBlue, right? In fact, how many times have we all read JetBlue now?
Maybe it was an easter-ad.
Ummm... JetBlue. ;-) - dgritsko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14because it's an easter egg? does it have to have a "why?"
- cheeseron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15It means JetBlue it hip!
- SixSider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10That has to be one of the strangest easter eggs ever. Not that the clip is so weird, but the placement. From JetBlue or just the webdeveloper? And what else might be hidden...
- TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13They show it off to their friends and a shampoo commercial ensues.
- Miyamoto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yea, well it was fun while it lasted. Anyone who hasn't seen it, the google cache still works.
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:GBk6K3Th5h4J:www.jetblue.com/travelinfo/routemap.html &hl=en&gl=au&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a - rodball, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Not to worry, Seth McFarlane is cool.
Oh, yeah - Fox might have something to say though... - tehfink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9guy of course, everybody knows girls can't do web design.
IT'S A JOKE - weirdal, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18why must everybody reply to this first comment?
- dgritsko, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13its from this flash animation:
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/banana.php - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11At least it's not a clip from Lost.
- skell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Notice the Fox logo in the bottom right of the video. I smell cease and desist.
Still get's my Digg though! - SurrealDream, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Now that is a cool easter egg. I can't for the life of me figure out WHY they put it there. It's not like they have any affiliation with Family Guy right?
Still, I love that clip :D
Kev585, it's a spoof of a pretty famous gif animation from some retro game I think. Do a search for it. - rodball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Too true!
I'll bet you won't see a lot of screenings of "United 93" as inflight movies, either. - snownskate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Dugg for several reasons.
1. Jet Blue really does rock and I prefer (and would refer) them over any other airline.
2. Coolest website easter egg i have ever seen.
I will be furious if i hear this web dev gets fired. Yes he did place a (most likely) unauthorized video on their website, but to the effect of thousands of websurfers hitting the website. Yes this does in turn slow down Jet Blue's website temporarily. Howerver, no other marketing/advertising attempt could bring this much traffic to their web page. If anything they should put up a banner welcoming digg users!!! - Firethorne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Excellent find. Makes you wonder how many things are hidden out there on other professional sites.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow. I wonder if this making JetBlue nervous? Just like the time I had to sell pancakes to the schools soccer captian!
- rodball, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I would bet that they are developing a feature, like a movie about the destination. The FG clip is a place holder, maybe?
- Nightspark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8While they don't have an affiliation with Family Guy that I know of, they do have an arrangement with Fox to provide inflight movies. So it's conceivable that this made it there through that relationship, but it is most likely just some crazy web developer. Although their affiliation with Fox probably means they won't get sued.
- MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Now the map appears as a jpeg instead of a flash file. Oh well.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8How does anyone find out something like this?
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I can't get it to work anywhere. They shut down the flash map.
- pcmacman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Its not just a banana, its a dog in a banana suit.
- Tobey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't think anyone's going to get fired or sued over this. Mainly because Jet Blue has a deal with DirecTV. And DirecTV is owned by News Corp, and News Corp is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who also owns FOX Broadcasting.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The manatees continue to write brilliant material!
- MrCalifornia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I honestly spent a couple of minutes checking out the map after I watched the clip. That can't hurt business.
- darkaxum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's all about who you have a beer or coffee with. I think I've talked to 4 other flash developers within the past month who include easter eggs into corporate sites. A major movie website, a car website, and a tv network website were the last that I heard about. Whenever I do this, it's usually to keep my head from exploding.
There comes a time when you get barraged with so many requests for things that don't make sense you just have to respond back with something else that doesn't make sense and include something for yourself to chuckle at. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Wow that is odd.. onward to the front page!
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5...or like the time I won that trip to Mexico with Gary Coleman
- IcedZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8lol, this is cool.. and seriously.. HOW do you find that?!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They already replaced the Flash map with a static JPEG map!
Looks like they've caught on.. - ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5OK, guys. The site is gone. Just watch the video at http://www.gkko.com/funny-videos/1197/family-guy:-peanut-butter-jelly
- exorcyze, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61. The copyright is for the .swf movie - they're not trying to claim that the Family Guy clip is theirs. Whomever put this in there simply didn't setup another context menu handler for the loaded movie clip.
2. You don't need to select a destination, you just need to click once on the flash movie to give it focus so the keyhandler can recognize the keystrokes.
3. Too funny. Kudos to the developer if he just snuck this in. - efriese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't think this is bad for business...I'm thinking of booking a flight!
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It stopped working. JetBlue took down the flash map.
- plncrzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think what JetBlue will probably get pissed about is not necessarily that the programmer put the easter egg in.. but that the fallout from it being discovered is that the site is coming to its knees... so legit customers are suffering the slowdowns when trying to book travel. This means lost money for JetBlue.
- MikeyMoose, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4http://homardi.com/mov/JetBlue_EasterEgg.MP4
- ers35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"1. Jet Blue really does rock and I prefer (and would refer) them over any other airline."
Probably why Jetblue did this. This is more effective then online ads any day. -
