Japan’s Mixi: A Social Network As A Purely Local Phenomenon

techcrunch.com — Japan ’s biggest social network is called Mixi, launched in February 2004 by the company of the same name. Drawing in one in five web users in the country, Mixi now boasts over 15 million members.

  • WordsnCollision, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1Mixi uses an "invite" system to vet new members, making it a very large, yet very exclusive club. It does have some features that may put off those concerned about privacy issues however.
