- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -11/+135I can't watch the video. he looks so happy, its making me cry.
RIP James Kim - DesktopGeo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+85R.I.P. James Kim.
It's amazing how this was just shot under 2 weeks ago. It really shows how fragile life is, that a man can be taken away from us so quickly and mercilessly.
I really really feel for his family, and I hope all this brings some hope and perspective to everyone's lives here as it has for me. - pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -23/+82Let me mourn in my own way. You do it your way by being a chode and I do it my way.
- Raz75, on 10/12/2007, -3/+63The only thing that makes me sadder than James Kim's passing today is the overwhelming amount of crass, heartless and outright disgusting comments I've seen here on Digg.
I just read the comment threads on Fark and was surprised to see how much more respectful and mature they are over there (to be honest, I expected the typical Fark flamefests). Kudos to the Farkers and shame on the Digg community for being such a whiny, crude and disrespectful bunch. A man died, people. He was a tech geek...like you.....and apparently a much better human being, at that. - rikdin, on 10/12/2007, -11/+68Erase his existance? Out of respect? What?
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -10/+53http://www.jamesandkati.com/
follow the "make a donation" link to paypal. - Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -14/+55Let their family be? Are you serious? Do you think his family actually reads Digg?
- Klitzy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+47Wow...I literally began crying when he spoke of the "tuition"
What a devastating loss for his family as well as the tech community... - Optimus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39>>Do you really enjoy watching people that are dead?
The hell? Do you not watch any movies or TV shows with dead actors, either? Do you not have any videos or photos of deceased loved ones? I think you need to learn to deal with the reality of death. - steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32I think we should set up a PayPal donation account to buy presents for his family. Their kids could really use some comforting when they hear that their dad won't be coming back :'(.
RIP dude. - digitalsin, on 10/12/2007, -11/+41Suggest you jump off a bridge
- CalipsoII, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29@etruscan
Even worse will be when people start posting "James Kim" articles that point to their crappy blog loaded with banner ads and pop-ups. There will always be those who use bad news for fame/fortune. =( - otatop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Hindsight is 20/20. He planned to go look for help for a few hours. He'd been stuck in his car for over a week. He was just doing what he thought was best. You can't really fault him for trying to look out for his family.
- nugge7, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32You've sent a secure payment of $50.00 USD to Kim Family Fund through PayPal. You'll receive an email receipt shortly.
R.I.P. James. You'll be missed. - Throlkim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I've never met James Kim, but from all the photos and the way in which he died, I can tell that he was a good man.
People mourn for celebrities more than other people because we know them. We feel connected to someone who shares similar ideas and interests.
I'm grieving for this man because I respect him. He left his car and went in search of help, probably knowing full-well that he could die. And he went anyway. He may not have been successful, or done it correctly, but he's still a ***** hero.
You guys complaining about how unfair it is that his death gets more coverage: write me a story about a friend or relative of yours that has died, and I'll read it. No doubt I'll grieve for them too. But you can't whine that he's getting special treatment when we aren't seeing anything about other people who have died.
This man died tragically, and it's unfair when good people die young. Don't litter his legacy with rants about how he's no more deserving of this coverage than other people.
He walked alone to his death, that's bravery. - u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -13/+34with the number of ppl who feel sympathetic towards the family, this can easily be accomplished, all we have to do is collect a penny from each person.
R.I.P. James Kim, you were well loved by people that didnt even know you. - Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Did anybody notice that the person who runs the website said they haven't mentioned to the Kim family that they are taking donations? James and Kim ran 2 businesses on top of his job at Cnet... and I would assume he has life insurance as well. Is it really money she needs right now? Do you really think any of them care about Christmas wishes at a time like this?
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -14/+33If someone sets it up I will pitch a few bucks.
- sporktek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23You've sent a secure payment of $5.00 USD to Kim Family Fund through PayPal. You'll receive an email receipt shortly.
Even though, they owned 'two businesses' and that he had a career with Cnet, I make this donation. I know that just owning your own business does not equal 'rich', and that the insurance company will probably try to classify his death as something they won't cover (like suicide, i.e. leaving the car) because insurance companies make their living doing things like that to people.
I don't know or care what they use it for, but I can almost be certain that there will be expenses and if nothing else, they could put it into the kids' tuition fund. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+36This is so sad.
i just woke up from a nap and found out about this.
im crying in midst of three roomates.
i remember watching since long long time ago on tv.
now he's gone,
i hope his family ccan find some source of peace in their hearts this winter. - oneiroi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20You're right it would have been better if he had stayed, but...
How long were they waiting in the car before he left? 6 days?
After 6 days I would start doubting whether people were looking, whether they could find them, or whether they would start looking soon enough.
He made a decision to go outside as a last resort to save his family, at the risk of his life. That makes him brave in my book. - siliconentity, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19It's a nice thought, but what those kids really need is a Daddy and buying them electronics isn't going to solve any of their problems. Life's challenges can't all be dealt with by acquiring more material goods, unfortunately.
- bladerunner627, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20ill be happy too donate. This just shocks me, because...if he would of stayed in the car, he probably would of survived.
- Kazrog, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Very sad, he seemed like a cool dude. RIP, and my condolences to his family.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Well said
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -14/+26I've got $5 on it.
- mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23This is his family............................
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I just watched this the other day and felt incredibly sad . I can only imagine how difficult it will be for all his friends at CNET to deal with his death. I didn't even know him and I feel very distraught for both he and his family.
- bigtomrodney, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20Without any disrespect to the dead, this is a complete joke. This is a bunch of diggers trying to get frontpage constantly with anything that might fly. There are 6 articles on the frontpage about this! Come on, and for christ's sake stop digging people down who point this out, it's just childish.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -5/+14@wisewaif - i think the family may have been a little busy to setup the wii donation account. i think with paypal you can add a comment - just put "wii fund" in the comment if you feel so inclined
- Egotrippin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm pretty sure they got a 1,000 Wii's coming there way right now. No way will it take the pain away, but atleast it's something for them.
- tdskate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I hate this ending. We lost another hero. I sincerely hope heaven has Wii's and Zunes.
- LowRentDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Why don't you start posting them? I looked at your submission history and the only story you've submitted is a review of "the Grudge". Congrats and making the world a better place.
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -13/+21You've sent a secure payment of $5.00 USD to Kim Family Fund through PayPal. You'll receive an email receipt shortly.
Come on everybody. Put your mouse/money where your mouth is. - raingrove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9you really mean "rest in peace"
- luca33, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11WELL DONE, RAZ75!!!
- Beaupedia, on 09/28/2008, -1/+9Well stated. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words concerning all the ignorant people here who don't understand the attention this story got.
- crazyjeff0, on 10/12/2007, -13/+20I agree that any loss of life is tragic, I feel like the techie bias is having too much influence on these news stories. Is this any less sensationalist than Jon Benet Ramsey?
Also, if you needed the death of a fellow techie to make you realize the fragility of life than you need to contemplate these things more. Taking life for granted is the worst mistake you can make. - oneiroi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I mispoke earlier,
I was trying to say, don't mark this as inaccurate/lame. This is digg, if you don't like it you don't have to read or digg it.
I personally liked watching. It makes me feel more connected to the person, even if superficially. He's always come across as a good funny guy.
And for the people being insensitive about this...quit being cynical jerks to people on a message board. Death is always a big deal. Even if some didn't know who he was days ago, doesn't mean they don't feel sympathy and empathy. And you're a jerk who tries to ridicule people that do. - samalex1701, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Many folks have asked how many heard of James Kim before all this, and others ask why mourn him so much? Well personally I was a fan of his since he was on TechTV and I think he was even on ZDTV before it became Techtv, but I could be wrong.
He had a passion for technology, and he loved what he did. I always enjoyed watching his segments on TechTV, and then on CNet when he moved there. I wouldn't say I was a fanboy, but over the years I grew to respect him a great deal, and enjoyed his insight on the world of tech. Being a guy who works with technology and around James' age, I always looked at him as someone I could hang out with or be friends with...
What made me look at this so personally though was the fact that he was such a family guy. Whenever he showed off a camera, it was filled with pictures of his kids and wife. he always mentioned his family, even in his last Crave podcast (which I watched before I even knew he was missing). When I hear of an everyday guy like me coming face to face with what James Kim had to face, it makes me realize that such a thing could happen to any of us. And when I see pictures of his wife and kids and know the path they will soon be facing, I can't help but think of my own family if I were in that situation.
Such a sad event, and one which has shined a dark cloud over us all. - jeffremer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Unfortunately thousands are a statistic and one is a tragedy.
- wafflesomd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12I don't think half of the ppl posting deserve it.
I would like to see you tell James' wife the things you are saying to her face.
Rest in piece man.
"This James Kim story has made me more sad than any other story this year."
Yah, right up there with the crocodile hunter for me, saddening year. - metfoo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+19Grow up.
- raingrove, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10wikpedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Kim - flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I feel for his family because I have a 7 month old daughter. and his family reminded me of my family. I saw him on cnet and techtv a few times. I didn't have posters of the man or anything but recognized his face and thought he was a good guy. I think others on digg were true fans of his, like people are fans of movies stars or singers etc. is that a bad thing to connect with people who have some fame?
I understand people die everyday, but do you go to everyones funerals and ask the mourners, "what makes him so special that you cry?" Would you walk up to Kati Kim and ask her right now "why didn't he stay in the car with you?" It's called sensitivity to let a person pass with respect.
yes people die everyday. yes there are others who go unannounced. but jesus show some respect. If not for James for his wife and kids. - mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How are people who write sweet things getting dugg down? That's pretty messed up. Who cares if what people write is not original, clever or funny on a post like this it is important for people to write what they want and their feelings... How can someone who just says "he will be missed by all" in the negative.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Here's another nice video, beginning with some stuff he did for C|net and ending with stuff about his family. Nice and touching.
Note this was created before they found him today. link:

- Pimpalicious316, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6agreed. the ridiculous comments made in these stories makes me not even want to read the comments. my block list has more than tripled in the last few days due to these types of comments.
