- lustre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Of course it is tech industry news. If Dvorak or Mossberg were missing it'd also be tech industry news.
- podcoder, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28@ anicejew - and i hope you rot in hell you sick s.o.b.
- ryanbutterworth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Wow... just wow
- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23This is the power of the internet, hopefully they come home safely.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21How can you say something so horrible? Your digg username is 'A Nice Jew' for God's sake!
- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I think you seriously need to work on your karma.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16It would be pretty funny if James Kim goes online just to check some emails, goes on digg.com, and sees all these articles about him, and goes "....Whoa...uh, honey? You're gonna laugh when you hear this..."
- Chicagoland, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19This guy is just starving for attention.
I just block/report people like this. - randysouth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Well anicejew, if you ever go missing, remind me to put it on Digg then bury it!
- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Because that is _not_ the worst that can happen, and to say otherwise is akin to taking the situation lightly.
I hope they find them as well. - lilricky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I too will happily laugh in relief if that is so, but with each day that passes, that theory becomes less and less likely. Lets just hope and pray for the best.
- rickdini1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It is nice to see the community come together. They have been missing for a week now, I'm getting more nervous each day, something is not right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11somehow I just keep thinking that it's gonna end bad, someone like James Kim can't disappear for a day, let alone a week!
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@molobolo: "He has been 'missing' for what not even a week? and its already a big deal?"
Just how long do you think people can go missing with no food, water, or shelter? We're about at the point where it stops becoming a rescue operation, and starts becoming a search for bodies. Damn straight its a big deal. - darnfabulous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It's times like these I wish I had super powers. Other than that hopefully the "power of the internet" can help. Get this dugg so more people see it. Well, people from Oregon/Washington at least.
- NewPunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I hope they're safe. The Digg community is looking for you guys.
I'm in Canada so I doubt I could help find them, unless they were kidnapped by beavers and brought up river into Toronto... - colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Not often. Add to the fact that Seattle and Portland roads were awful at the time he went missing due to snow, and there is a lot of reason to worry. Family and friends say they normally checked in every day, and the last time anyone saw them was Sunday.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10People dugg you down because it was inappropiate... in a way, it was like going to a funeral and shouting "he deserved it"
- dev1t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My guess is it was assumed that because he is a CNet editor it is industry news. Makes sense.
- cazoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6the best way to deal with a troll is to simply block them. its not worth your time or energy to get upset.
- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You don't find anything wrong with the fact that his ENTIRE family is missing? It's not like a teenage daughter running away from home. This is a whole family that disappeared.
- colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hopefully they're found ok...
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Their kids are so adorable. Please be safe.
- tomisina, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6how frequently do entire families just go missing? isn't this newsworthy outside of the fact that he has something to do with tech? or am i mistaken and people go missing all the time....
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To be fair, people get lost in the Oregon wilderness fairly frequently, and it never makes national news. Maybe if one was a big celebrity, but a CNEWS editor? Nah.
The local (Portland) news has been reporting this regularly. They even had a short interview of the last guy who saw them. They said the latest suspicion is that his GPS might have misled him onto some small forest road. There seem to be a lot of comments about cell phones; I suggest you look at coverage maps - there is virtually no cell phone coverage between the valley where I-5 runs and the coast. - mrfresh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I really have enjoyed watching James Kim through the years. I really am praying for their safe return. The fact that his whole family is missing is even more devastating, especially with such young kids.
I am upset that there isn't much more news about this. - tdskate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Has this story been on national TV yet?
And after all this, will he be able to continue his job because i liked what he did, Crave, with Veronice Belmont, it's awesome! - jak119, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2let's hope they're found safe and sound
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wouldn't say its "common" that families go missing, but it seems to happen at least once a year in Oregon. Most of them are camping, hiking, skiing, etc - not just traveling to another town. People just don't take the winter weather seriously enough.
- growler1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does he or his wife have a gps enabled phone? I'm positive the authorities have thought of this, but one idea would be to do a maps mashup of locations the days of the trip that the cell provider has data for.
Here's hoping for the best. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You mean found ALIVE and OK. You don't want them to be dead. :(
- jackwaters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wtf..... I just feel sorry for you that you would even joke about this....
- Axim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no calling someone a retard is pretty fair game, lets not get too politically correct here
- Brokenmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He'l be full of joy when he sees how much we all care for him =D
- normalizer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not if he was from Kalifornia...
- dmann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Heres a prayer (or a hope for those who dont pray) that the kim's were just burned out and decided to take an extended road trip or something. Lets all hope they end up being spotted at a jackalope museum in the dakotas or some such thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
I hope they're found alive and safe. As someone that's enjoyed watching James on the Screen Savers and CNET his insightful reviews on technology have always been from the view of the consumer as opposed to the many shills out there. - ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I _just_ saw him on my Tivo, talking on CNet about mp3 players. I hope they're found soon.
- Fallout75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm praying that they are alright. When I first found out this happened my stomach dropped.
It makes me quite sad to think of what might have happened to them. It makes it even more sad that there are children involved. I'm nervous to find out the end result. - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do I get the sinking feeling that this site will likely be a memorial page a week from now? :
- TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So much ***** happens in this world. It's unfortunate that people like them got the target =/
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I do hope they are found safe and sound.
- maxshanly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yes and how on Earth did I say anything against them? All I said was that they're most likely dead, whenever anyone goes missing for that amount of time they're usually dead. You can't "block" my comment for simply stating something that will probably later become obvious.
I hope they're safe, but things never turn out the way we hope. - FushBuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hope they are found safe. Best wishes for the friends and family!
- iAlex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3This is so odd :/. I hope they find them soon.
- LowRentDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Last spring a family lived 17 days out of their motorhome after being stranded in the Oregon mountains. Hopefully this will be a repeat of that.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-03-21-missing-family_x.htm - justpeachey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am not a survival expert but I think they have some things going for them. They are in a very crash worthy car -side impact airbags etc. They probably had some food in the car because they were on a road trip with a 7 yr old and are in a wet area to get water. If they were on an extended road trip they have dry clothes in suitcases. As long as they stay with the vehicle-stay hydrated, keep each other warm and ration what little food they have, they can make it over a week. They have multiple agencies looking for them. As long as foul play is not involved I say they have a pretty good chance of being found alive. There was a similar case --The Stolpa Family (13 yrs ago) -- getting stranded on a backroad in winter in Nevada with a 5 month old baby and they survived over a week with a couple of boxes of crackers. They made it. The dad was a Marine though and may have had survival training. I believe there is a movie about their experience.
- Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I wonder if he had a CCWP?
