- tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I dunno. Yet another video-centric startup, client software needed, PC & Mac only, minority target market, lack of new content, strong competition (Netflix thrives on the long tail). I wish them well but I fear it's going to be tough.
- Yez70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5At least their pricing is more reasonable - compared to the others. A digital copy should be priced accordingly. After all, the production costs (DVD burning) become the consumers, not the studios.
I do agree, client software needs to go - nobody wants it, but the media companies. - wmoisis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"The good news is that the beta version works on both Mac and a PC. You can also watch a low-resolution version of the films on the web. The movies downloaded to your computer are high-definition, and can be rented for $1.99 for a week, or can be purchased for $4.99 a copy"
Awesome! - redlaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6so kevins not allowed to submit any stories without being paid ??
i found it interesting enough, whats your problem - Aewheros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You think you could run the client software on Linux using Wine?
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"World's oldest tortoise dies - 225 Years old!" - Hoofarted bringing the news you need to know!
- JCPRuckus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If this can get me compact, high quality uncut copies of newer (last twenty years) Kung-Fu Flicks and Asian Action Flicks with at the very least an English subtitle (or, God willing, a good English dub), I will have found my holy grail.
- Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did you know it's possible to connect a computer to a television?
- fuckingstudent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats cos they might contain 'ter-rists'
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2direct link: http://www.jaman.com/
Hmm, lame, the site's not even operational. - rgodfrey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2AFAIK, this is the first legal movie download service other than iTunes to work on Macs. I'm gonna watch me some Bollywood!
- oceanclub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only one problem - according to the article, for licensing reasons, you cannot actually burn their movies onto DVD. (It doesn't say if this restriction is enforced using DRM.)
- JohnyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not seeing any high-def content available... and that's really all I'm interested in anymore in terms of cinema.
- hiscity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1beta registration doesn't work for me
I received the email confirming my registration, but nothing happens when I try to get a username. The username page just prompts that it can't find my email address.
Nor can you send feedback without having a username.
Classic catch-22.
Either they're just fishing for email & user data or it's buggy ... likely the latter.
I may try again later when they have the major bugs worked out. - hiscity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you're right... I didn't see anything about a special invitation
that explains it! - hoofarted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You guys should talk.
- hiscity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ps. does the same thing when I try to use a 10 minute email (disposable)
use caution, they may just be fishing for privacy data - dusanmal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Follow the links from the end of the article... You'll get to the "invitation to test Beta" page that states that it is intentionally hidden in order to attract only the wanted attention (appropriate for the Beta issue).
- nurd6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well for asian movies there's always aznv.tv which is mostly free.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it looks interesting, but I think they'll put a premium on the price because they've got the market cornered. Up until now it's been a niche market, with only a few illegal sites offering these types of movies for download - plus the rights are much easier to get then Hollywood films, so these companies could make a tidy profit.
- shiftedreality, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think you read the email carefully. They're not fishing for emails and it's not buggy. You provide your email address, and then you'll be INVITED later to create an account.
- zedr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3How is this news? Let's check the keywords: Movie download service, Bollywood, Mac client, iTunes competitor, Netflix competitor. Oh, and did I say Bollywood?
I'm sure you submit stories that are much more diggworthy: http://digg.com/users/hoofarted/submitted - vkore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good idea. I LOVE foreign movies, but they're impossible to find in America. The only problem is I was hoping you could actually BUY the movie DVD for $5-no one wants to watch a movie on their computer when you can watch it on the TV, and it looks like this option isn't possible yet.
- hoofarted, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4So how is this news? I see, Kevin Rose submitted it. You f'ng lamers! You digg any crap... or maybe you didn't?!? Maybe this is the Digg machine in action?
Tell us Kevin, how much did Jaman pay you to do this little story, knowing that you can get it onto the front page? - corevette, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9...good news?
-Works on both PC/Mac, no Linux?
-ooohh yay low resolution for free
-'rented' for 1.99 or purchased for 4.99, or free if you like bittorrent
