- peaches017, on 10/16/2007, -2/+16And...... it's down.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/15/2007, -1/+15digpicz isn't part of digg its a seperate site by a seperate programmer..
- canuq, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8Mirror: http://mirror.canuq.com/3786377/
- jpozadzides, on 10/16/2007, -1/+9This is actually a very cool service. I like the fact that it aggregates top photos from several different sites. I can see wasting quite a lot of time there going forward. :-)
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/16/2007, -2/+10Looks really good but I think this post will probably end up on the site because it will pull any of the front page diggs with the word [PICS]
- suxmonkey, on 10/15/2007, -2/+7The site actually got 6,000 Diggs on Digg.com but the other responder is right: it is unofficial by Digg standards. At some point Digg might add a pics section but, being a large company now, they have been slow to do so. Ergo, one lone programmer did it for them (the story linking to Digpicz frontpaged on Digg in virtually record time, if that's any indicator of how badly Diggers wanted something like it!)
- gamer31, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4PICURLS.... more like PICABETTERHOST amirite?
- blackolive, on 10/15/2007, -3/+7The pictures need to be bigger & the text smaller.
- fwc67, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3Good idea for picture lovers
- xpose, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3A hero? Yikes.
- simd, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Last thing they want to do is hire him. Let the guy be creative outside the constraints of Digg... and reward him finally if necessary by buying his best output.
If he becomes part of the Digg team, he'll have to work on Digg priorities. It's wikinomics! - Jibberwalk, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2... But they are making a [PIC] section. And they're also updating the comment system. Most of these updates will role out before the new year. It was explained when the newest version of Digg roled out...
- abhinavg90, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2looks interesting.. digpicz is nice too.
and yea.. is it just be or picurls is actually being really slow - verge, on 10/15/2007, -3/+4great submit, sux... thanks. i'd like to see them implement rss, w/ or w/o thumbnails. if it's there i missed it.
- pkrumins, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Don't you think I did it? See this post on how I developed the site: http://www.catonmat.net/blog/making-of-picurls-pop ...
- pkrumins, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1Your wish has come true! Thumbnails on the main page are now (70x70)px! :) Bookmark it! :)
I just added feeds as well. - pkrumins, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1I just added site-wide RSS feed and RSS feeds for each site pics are scraped from (digg, reddit, etc).
Check it out! :) - jarvelated, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I always thought the best reason for the picture section would be to more or less remove them from the regular lists so we don't have to see the same pictures over and over again every few weeks.
- JohSteLon, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1[citation needed]
Seriously, no link to the original story? Hotlinking images is only going to make enemies, not friends. - pkrumins, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1There were no feeds in the original version which got posted to digg. I just added site-wide RSS feed and RSS feeds for each site pics are scraped from (digg, reddit, etc).
Check it out! :) - Thefatheroftime, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2hmmm...

- D3koy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I think the idea of a picture section is good, even if half the images go down...they're going to crash regardless, might as well put them in a section that I can ignore
- suxmonkey, on 10/15/2007, -6/+7And if you haven't checked it out yet, be sure to see Digpicz.com ... this programmer basically stepped up when Diggers called for a [PICS] section over and over and Digg was slow to respond. A true hero to the Digger community :)
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Umm the site is working fine for me?
- D3koy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Seems cool, bookmarked for sure...going to keep using this until Digg can get their own picture section up and running...
- khyberkitsune, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2So now we have a URL that seems to be an aggregation site, but will not host the pictures themselves with proper citation, instead hotlinking and eating up our paid-for bandwidth and driving huge-traffic sites to our servers, thus shutting them down and screwing the SLA we have with these people.
Yea, that's an idea soaked in failure, there, at least to us copyright holders, and for those of us that pay for bandwidth by the kilobyte. Thanks alot, USA, Canada, Mexico, Western Bloc Europe, etc.
No probs with Sweden/Holland, etc. - they give real service and those speedy people actually cause LESS strain on my system because they get what they want fast and the slowpokes get their general rated speed. - canuq, on 11/03/2007, -1/+1Most of the sites go down because they run wordpress without wp-cache.
- Debais, on 11/07/2007, -0/+0well, next to jimmyr.com this will be another great wasting time page...
a more explaining title would be nice... - thepda, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1Really cool, but the reason the Digg team hasn't done this yet is because of the amount of implementation they have to do. This guy JUST built a picture section, imagine stitching it onto this large of website, its so hard. Any developer will know that, you all just cry because you have to be stupid nerds and put [PIC] after everything.
- statc, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1Umm I really wonder why the site is down. If he envisioned it getting popular fast, he should have made it scale. Do 10-15 minute caching on the stuff to ensure that it would be up until he can estimate the load.
- steelghost, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0RSS Feed would be nice.
- Marijuana, on 10/15/2007, -3/+2I lol'd.
- MasterChi, on 10/15/2007, -4/+3Digg will never place a pictures section. Just think for a moment, over 93% of all submitted stories that have PIC or (Includes PIC) in the title goes down and needs to be mirrored including this story. Now think if Digg had a pictures section.........Digg's server would crash if it hosted all those pics and if those pics were hosted elsewhere the pictures sections would just be full of mirror comments since all links would be down. It just makes sense of why they won't make a Pictures section.
- SilverBlade2k, on 10/15/2007, -4/+370 digs and its down
- noxHand, on 10/15/2007, -5/+2Pictures bigger, and the site is a true winner for a bookmark :D
Nce one! - suxmonkey, on 10/15/2007, -5/+2That may be a good call ... I talked to the creator earlier and he said he's really looking forward to feedback like that. Thanks Blackolive ;)
- JerodSlay, on 10/15/2007, -8/+3AWESOME!!! it's already down!!! THIS ROXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
- bboxwire, on 10/15/2007, -7/+1what the - why hasn't digg promoted digpicz? never knew of this site...

What is Digg?
