- benbread, on 10/11/2007, -7/+52Next on Google's acquisition list: You.
- Elxx, on 10/11/2007, -9/+42At least Google works to make acquired services better. Yahoo just pumps them full of ads and then slowly kills them.
- informality, on 10/11/2007, -4/+31"Google can has your feed."
Google can has cheezburger? - eaasness, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28They already have me!
- cdnbambam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20I sold my rights a while ago.
- Asidic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20We are Google. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18their approach seems to be.. "If you can buy them....I'll buy them before you do."
- AndreGerber, on 10/11/2007, -8/+22I don't know...I actually enjoy watching Google taking over the Internet. As long as Google's motto remains "Do no evil," then I am happy.
- hanapbuhay, on 10/11/2007, -10/+24Paraphrasing the press release:
Google can has your feed. FeedBurner's technology and talented team are a great addition to [the collective]. The terms of the acquisition are confidential, and the deal is officially closed. Resistance is futile. - generalloy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12European Commission + FTC are investigating the privacy issues and Doubleclick deal, respectively. The fact is that a reduction in competition or absorption by a competitor to a company with high marketshare always concerns regulatory agencies (and that is a good thing), and Google has a high marketshare and lots of power (pagerank==worth a lot to those indexed). Google also has to be careful of its public image these days.

I wish they were there for Last.fm =/ - duyleq, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Hum! Who's next ?
- robinator08, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8You can also just check the feedburner main website:
"Hello, our name is FeedBurner.
We've been acquired by Google"
Sounds kind of triumphant on their part. - eaasness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Did anyone else find it odd that the audio link in the story was to a WMA file?
"Update: If you're interested, listen to the 45-minute audio file of our press call today with FeedBurner CEO Dick Costolo. (It takes a minute to load.)"
http://services.google.com/blog_resources/Google-Feedburner_press_call_June0107.wma - YellowJKT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yeah I have. It always took too long to finish my game. Most of the time I would give up in frustration, and bail by selling out everything I had to the player next to me.
Oh wait.... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Oh the irony.
They even link to this, which is a good read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Google_acquisitions - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18969850

That headline is so funny coming from MSNbc - orangysb, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5@elxx
examples please? i don't see pages "full of ads" on del.icio.us and flickr other than when i search for stuff and they return relevant text ads on the side clearly differentiated, which is the same as google
as long as the services are great, i am more than happy to see ads that are relevant and beneficial at times - duyleq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@Asidic: "We are Google. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
Please forgive me *_* - Yoshi39, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"I don't know...I actually enjoy watching Google taking over the Internet. As long as Google's motto remains "Do no evil," then I am happy."
I'm sure Hitler wouldn't have classified himself as evil
Long live Gowdin's Law - amhed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Have you even seen the ridiculous post on the FeedBurner blog?
"The vision is straightforward: publishers who successfully promote distribution and measure consumption will be in a position to derive more value (aka make more money, gain more influence, etc.) from media distribution. Feeds present a simple and ubiquitous opportunity for publishers to embrace distributed media, but content distribution standards without metrics, publicity tools, and monetization engines are ultimately of little value to individuals and organizations whose businesses depend on an ability to maximize and measure reach."
IT'S 100 MILLION BUCKS!! IS IT NECESSARY TO EXPLATIN ANYTHING ELSE? JEEZ... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3 "Dont be evil" - Until you're unstoppable.
- Apreche, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I depend on FeedBurner so much, you have no idea. Please don't screw it up Google! Please!
- Ireland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It could be worse guys.. another big company beginning with "M" could have acquired them.
- flap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If they let me combine my google analytics and feedburner info I will be hyped.
- arjung, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i love when google buys companies because it generally means that all of their products become free (with ads).
- rsh28630, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Has anyone else noticed the lack of even rudimentary grammar skills? Is this representative of the American education system or are there a large proportion of Digg participants for whom English is a second language?
To keep this on topic... Google purchases because they can. Any corporation earning massive amounts of money must fulfill their obligation to stockholders and that translates to securing a continuing revenue stream. While Google is hiring 'the best & the brightest', they're also buying developers. Microsoft did and does virtually the same thing. The only difference is these days Bill and Ballmer are perceived as the Borg. Look closely at recent posts and you'll detect a similar paranoia is now appearing more frequently regarding Google.
Here's a tip from someone a few days shy of 60: anytime you are told by a person or entity that they are good or 'do no evil', cover your primary exit orifice as you are about to experience a surprise at the back door. - chicagobiker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2" Yahoo is getting better at the ad biz atleast within their webmail since you have the option of hiding them now."
What the hell is that supposed to mean??? Their ad business is better because now viewers can't see the ads??
One of these days advertisers are going to realize that hit counts and eyeballs aren't the same thing and they're just throwing their money away on the internet.
How many times has it come up in the last few months on Digg where someone mentions an amusing ad in the sidebar followed by 10 comments "Digg has ads?"
Currently I used OmniWeb in OS X, I have it's ad-block configured to block almost all advertising URL's and images and I've modified my hosts file to re-direct all major ad servers to 127.0.0.1 (http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/). I haven't seen an ad on the internet in over a year. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feedburner - but if you read the actual article/blog post it says the same thing in the second paragraph...
- geekitechture, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@marshallk:
Thanks for giving me my opinion right there in the description:
"...and why this is smart (http://tinyurl.com/2uwx7r )"
Yes, I always come to Digg hoping someone will be so biased and opinionated that I am instantly brainwashed by them, so I have to say:
THANKS FOR CONVERTING ME TO THE PURE JOY OF LUVIN' GOOG!
OK, I have to go throw up now. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2https://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=142127
- rosefu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0You can put a style sheet to your RSS feeds and link to the various services and newsfeed readers. I know currently Feedburner links to most newsreaders, with Yahoo! being the first one listed. I hope after this acquisition Google's newsreader won't be the most prominently displayed reader.
- LRG1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1WTF is FeedBurner? Can I get a quick summary? I don't spend my life on the computer....
- ddd7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2here's a more lighthearted take....

- Jorlwind, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Well Google, that was fun. What's next?
- Topekanam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0"All your bases are belong to us" - Google
We're screwed, but for the best... - rosefu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I didn't like Google from day 1, and insisted on using AltaVista until Google took over all the other search engines. Then I watched as Google expanded, and expanded, and expanded, until it has become a behemoth of an Internet corporation worth billions, ignoring what made it famous in the first place, and embodying an advertisers' and shareholders' dream.
But hey, I use Microsoft's products daily, so why not Google? - ajcannon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2@chicagobiker
Wow. Over a year without ads. I wish I could be that cool. - TheTjalian, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Heaven and Hell!
Google Vs. EA
FIGHT! - tanto, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Is there anything Microsoft and the rest of Google’s competitors can still do to stop the bleeding? One thing is for sure true, Microsoft won’t give up and this battle is getting very interesting.
Online Search Battle Continues
http://customerdataplus.com/blog/?p=19 - Jammerdelray, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Great for the Stock Market with it rallying at record highs amid all this acquisitions. Yahoo is getting better at the ad biz atleast within their webmail since you have the option of hiding them now.
- TheTjalian, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Google will buy out your dignity, too!
