- pr0t0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually, the car was illegally parked at an area where Chuck Norris happened to be on holiday. He spin-kicked the car back to the appropriate carpark and it was at this very moment that the satellite to the photo. The reason you don't see Chuck Norris in the photo is that you can not capture Chuck Norris on film unless he wants you to.
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know...sometimes in life reality and reason simply grind to a screeching halt much to the entertainment of those of us who still have functioning synapses. This is one of those times.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Flying cars get all the best parking spaces.
- apkennedy1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So that's where I left it...damn tequila
- jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12 cars parked side by side. That's very unusual.
- toomuchgreentea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1C'mon ... shadows at an angle won't be the same size as the object. It amazes me a myth like this can last this long!
- Mach5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Occam's razor anyone? ANSWER: NO
- Locnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This means one thing.... Dante is now an amputee!!

on http://maps.google.com/ for those without Google Earth - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its a government conspiracy.
- proxima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"satellite photography is from hundreds of miles in the sky, so it is straight down only. it cannot take photos at an angle to catch shadow. we learned this in "Enemy of the State." thank you, Gene Hackman."
Too bad the angle at which you take the photo doesn't affect the object's shadow. Silly. - Sal42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0satellite photography is from hundreds of miles in the sky, so it is straight down only. it cannot take photos at an angle to catch shadow. we learned this in "Enemy of the State." thank you, Gene Hackman.
- SpeshulK926, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01. He's asking if it's real, not saying it's real...
2...
"I'm calling BS on this one!!! Look at the shadows for one. They so called flying car's shadow is inconsistent with the other shadows on screen... Also who is to day that this isn't photoshoped??"
Why would you think it's photoshoped? If you go to it on Google Earth it looks identically like the picture... Unless someone got bored at a Satellite Imaging company and said, "hmm... Maybe we should put a shadow there and see if someone can notice it looks like a flying car..."
yeah, that sounds good.
3. I personally don't think it's real, because the shadows are way too far away from it. You have to think, that those trees are waaaay taller than the car and their shadows aren't nearly as far away. The sun was nearly on top of them when this was taken, and wouldn't have a shadow that big...
Dugg just for causing this much argument though! :) - philipjfry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"its a white car next to a black car.
the end."
I'm not going so far as to say "It's a flying car. The end." but I do have a problem with the two car theory zealots.
Take a pencil/pen or something else and cover up the black "box." The picture still looks funny. Notice all the cars in the lot have a distinguishable shadow around them. There's a faint black outline. The white "car" does not.
If it was a car on the ground, wouldn't it have this shadow as well?
Still. Could be a tent, car on a pole, flying car or any number of things, but two cars: I don't see why people can be so sure as to rule out all other possibilities. - Al3xander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.theregister.com/2006/01/23/flying_car.kmz
coordinates:
open it with google earth, and see for yourself!
My guess is it's just 2 car parked beside each other. - ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who cares, a flying car would be pathetic and would just cause thousands of more deaths per month on North American roadways. The drivers here are already terrible as it is, imagine if you added ten more controls for flying up, etc, etc?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the flying car is owned by chuck norris; he hovers where he damn well pleases
- mattconn24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^
The so called.. not they so called.
also
say... not day.
Digg needs and edit option. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you look very carefully at the right side (of the white 'thing') you can see what looks to be legs extending down from the object. Furthermore, whatever 'it' is is larger than a car. Compare it to the cars parked in the adjacent parking lot.
No, that said, CAN WE ALL STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS DAMN THING! - WrecksTXP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its just a black car sitting next to a yellow one. There are 2 cars.
- MrDevious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good call pr0t0
- DoctorShim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why do we even read The Register?
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why can't the people who took the satellite pictures figure it out? Or Google themselves? This is annoying not knowing. Explanations I have read, other than some kind of data anomaly, aren't satisfying.
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Totally real. 100% for sure. End of argument.
- cusoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's the short answer: No.
- ytsebadd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Use www.youtube.com instead. Please."
Don't know about other large corporations, but my firewall blocks access to youtube as porn...but not video.google.com.
I think the car must run on unobtainium. - blincoln, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Too bad the angle at which you take the photo doesn't affect the object's shadow. Silly."
And also, a lot of the imagery that people think is from satellites is actually from aircraft. I don't know if that's the case here, but most of the super-high-res imagery of US cities on Google is from aerial surveys and not satellites. - solodigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Of course it's not real. Dumbasses...
- Al3xander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.theregister.com/2006/01/23/flying_car.kmz
- vokiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a car attached to top of a post at a used car dealership, jeez get a clue people...
- Gnascher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I read somewhere (wish I could find the link now), that there is something in the way the photos are taken and assembled for google earth that it can often give the appearance that something is flying because of false shadows and such.
My google mojo isn't very high today, so I don't feel like searching for the reference. - Gnascher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I read somewhere (wish I could find the link now), that there is something in the way the photos are taken and assembled for google earth that it can often give the appearance that something is flying because of false shadows and such.

- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks exactly like one of those information booths...maybe they took one down
- senfo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anybody seen this for them self? I'd check myself, but somebody "forgot" to give us the exact coordinates. For all I know, the image is a photoshop.
- Mazz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some people just don't know how to have fun. Dugg because so many of you are ass. If all I want is serious tech news I would visit the serious tech site.
- hectorhector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its a white car next to a black car.
the end. - mogebier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe everything I read on the Interweb.
So, this has to be real. - sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0omg, if any thing it is photoshoped. why woud some one have a flying car and if they did, why would they be there on the grassy part. No on has ever said any thing about them seeing a flying car.
- d03boy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it that hard to believe that it was just a tent? You can see the ***** pole...for Christ's sake...
- xccliffy532, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think that maybe Google thought it would be funny to put some random thing like this in Google Earth just to make everyone flip out about a flying car...its obviously not real...digg anyway tho
- jarnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Two words for ya - "Occam's Razor".

- BaldMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The question is what would you give for a flying car if a german scientist came up to you and offered one?
- NzeeSheikh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i knew it was Mr. Potter.. :)
