- mysql101, on 11/08/2009, -2/+75DRAGON AGE AD IS TEH SUQ
***** DIGG - Fazaman, on 11/08/2009, -1/+43Adblock Plus: Block image...
- Cyberdactyl, on 11/08/2009, -0/+34LOL. . .normally I could pretty much scrape by having digg up at work.
But with this silly *****
<------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
no way. - biofriendlyblog, on 11/07/2009, -3/+35Do so many people want to leave Verizon early that they feel they need to double their early-termination fees?
- ChaotikBlu, on 11/08/2009, -0/+30Adblock Plus, but the formatting is still ***** up. Major fail, Digg.
- inactive, on 11/08/2009, -1/+26The funny thing is if this was any other site doing such ridiculously obtrusive ads, Diggers would mock it.
Digg looks like MySpace right now. - Qumahlin, on 11/07/2009, -6/+29Higher prices of todays phones? I remember paying 200 bucks for phones that didn't have a camera or any bells and whistles...quite frankly prices seem to have gone down if anything...
- rushover, on 11/08/2009, -1/+22Dragon Age ads should be like Evony and throw some half-naked woman on their ads, I wouldn't mind it as much.
- forcedfx, on 11/08/2009, -1/+22God, this ***** sucks.
- Nitrodist88, on 11/08/2009, -0/+18Is there a way to disable the ad? I've already bought the damn game!
- JesusHimself, on 11/08/2009, -2/+19If Verizon wants to keep its customers, maybe they shouldn't cripple the phones abilities so it's useless unless you pay an extra 20 bucks a month for something you bought.
-former Verizon customer - cuevas4711, on 11/08/2009, -2/+16***** contracts.
- lukas88, on 11/08/2009, -0/+13*Right click digg bookmark*
*Delete* - captspaulding, on 11/08/2009, -1/+13THERE BE DRAGONS!
- lukas88, on 11/08/2009, -0/+11Sad to see that digg is whoring itself out these days. I think I am pretty much done with it.
- EntangledPhysx, on 11/08/2009, -0/+11Its making the comment space smaller and now the page is lagging like a game thats getting 10 FPS instead of 60.
- jserio, on 11/08/2009, -0/+9I agree. Don't you find Verizon a little hypocritical torip on the iPhone (iDon't) with their Driod Does ads when VZW for years has locked-down their phones and crippling features on their phones so they can charge extra? ***** Verizon!
- Sil369, on 11/08/2009, -0/+9maybe burying the ''Sponsored by Dragon Age: Origins'' ad at the top of the page will make it ago away/show up less
- dpknc84, on 11/08/2009, -3/+12I propose we bury all stories with page skinned ads in them. Bury this story now!
- ready4god2513, on 11/08/2009, -0/+8If you have to make it really difficult for your customers to leave, it seems you are doing something wrong...
- SAOSiN, on 11/08/2009, -1/+9adblock aint blocking it bro!
- ushere, on 11/08/2009, -0/+8what's with this crappy background ad!!!
if it's there tomorrow, no more digg for me! - Barackalypse, on 11/08/2009, -0/+8Its actually anti-competitor, effectively locking users in to their current providers. The whole notions of phones being tied to or primarily sold through phone companies is stupid. It would be like your Internet provider selling computers that only worked through their service unless they gave you a special unlock code.
- smemily, on 11/08/2009, -1/+8Well, if you want a cheap $800ish phone, with the price subsidized through your contract, it will cost extra to cancel. I am not sure where the surprise is. Though it would be nice if instead of a flat $350 they could actually give you a real figure of how much you still owe for your fancy-ass phone.
- ralphthemagi, on 11/08/2009, -1/+8They are using the same tactic that Sprint used. They give you an "unlimited" data plan that's limited to 5GB of data, and when you go over it they charge you with the ETF and say you broke your contract. Then they make you sign up all over again and charge you a $20-$40 reactivation fee.
- inactive, on 11/08/2009, -3/+10Here on Digg we whine about every corporation that ever existed (except Google) so you will be buried.
- inactive, on 11/08/2009, -0/+7what can they do that you can't? Make calls where there is no Wifi.
Most places are not completely blanketed with Wifi. - bdfariello, on 11/08/2009, -6/+13Prepare to bury me: I think Verizon's justified in charging an early termination fee in order to recoup the amount they subsidized for the phone that they sold you at a discounted price with the provision that you stay on their network for the duration of the contract.
- NYYBronxBombers, on 11/08/2009, -2/+8I wouldn't think its that so many people want to leave Verizon as its more of those people wanting an iPhone and have no choice but to leave Verizon.
- fritzmusic, on 11/08/2009, -0/+6Wi-fi is more prevelant, unsecured and faster than AT&T's 3G network from what I've seen in the wild....
- ralphthemagi, on 11/08/2009, -1/+6Because they are all subsidized by the carrier.
Look a the cost of no-contract phones. $500-$800 for today's smartphones. - inactive, on 11/08/2009, -0/+5Just because you "bet it is" does not make it so.
EVen the point is moot anyway. All that matters is what YOU would have to pay for the phone if you bought it yourself. - Jeff901, on 11/08/2009, -1/+6Service businesses, ESPECIALLY cell phone carriers no longer make their money on monthly billing...if anything, that is probably a break even deal.
Today, the word FEE is where the real money is...the amount of the fee has little to do with cost of offering and extra service...att pay as you go plan cost 20 cents per sms, in or out. It cost nothing for them to send that data packet on an already built up network....that is just one example - bobartig, on 11/08/2009, -1/+6Yes. And their previous refusal to pro-rate their EFTs? Also anti-consumer, which is why the FCC or whatever basically told them they couldn't do it any more.
- pgriffinmonmout, on 11/08/2009, -3/+8It's not anti-consumer at all. If you want a cheap plan with a cheap phone, you can get it.
If you want state-of-the-art phone at a low cost, be prepared to sign a contract. It's not hard math to figure out why companies do this. - bjornski, on 11/08/2009, -0/+5You're always a quick one to defend corporate decisions, aren't you?
- portnoy, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4So is this another reason why I should just continue to use cheap cellphones and my iPaq HX4700? Sure sounds that way to me.
- jimh542, on 11/08/2009, -1/+5Good for verizon. Price themselves right out of the market. Good reason not to sign up with them.
- Qumahlin, on 11/08/2009, -1/+5Did you not understand my point...Why is it that ETF's were not raised before now if that is the case?
Why if like Verizon says this is due to the cost of Smartphones does this not only apply to smartphone users?
I'm well aware of the cost of no contract phones...what im not aware of is how much of that $500-800 is pure profit. Keep in mind most of those phones cost less than $250 to make... - ShoeSh1ne, on 11/08/2009, -1/+5Am I the only one who waits out my contract to get a new phone?
- bobertoq, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4Send Digg a message about this now!
http://digg.com/contact/ - LuxFestinus, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4Yes, you have to make sure everyone on the planet has a copy as well and then the ad can go away.
- betona, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4I wish we could get phones & service like other countries: go ahead and pay full price for the damn phone and get much lower usage rates because they're not covering the cost of your phone with 2 years of locked in service fees.
- burgerkinghorn, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3And only the person making the call or sending text pays. It doesn't cost you anything to be the on the receiving end.
- DaviDTC, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3abp does block it, just leave the page ***** up like chaotik said.
- Qumahlin, on 11/08/2009, -1/+4The phones don't cost anywhere near $800 for the provider.
Keep in mind if you want to use the iPhone as a comparison that even the top of the line one costs less than $250 to make...so until someone posts how much the supplier is charging VZ for their phones all your doing is defending them finding a way to make an even higher profit off of you. - Samohtneas, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3This larger ETF is for people who are using Advanced Smartphones on their contract.
- burgerkinghorn, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3I hate how the word "fee" somehow legitimizes any charge. Your contract is $XX per month but then there is the activation fee, unboxing fee, watch me scratch my ass fee, .... fee
Being charged money for extra crap that should have been part of the package is just plain wrong. They'll keep getting away with it as long as people go with it. Calling it a fee doesn't make it OK. Challenge it. - bjornski, on 11/08/2009, -2/+5Nope. It's an EA product.
