Hmmm...and he didn't block out his e-mail address...not the sharpest knife in the drawer.... - erimar77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36it's easy to give 15GB, they're just banking on the fact 98% of users won't need that much space..
- ziki, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31...what would I do with 15gb of email space. My only thoughts would be transferring movies or games, illegally.
- GreenLantern33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Why does this guy have 16 drafts? Who has 16 drafts?
Maybe I should email him, since he didn't block out his email address, and ask him. - EztliNahua, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Most people won't use anywhere near this amount of space, so they could give 1000 users 2GB each for a total of 2000GB, even if they only had 500GB available.
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26umm, kinda useless if the max attach size is 10 mb isn't it?
- pjsk8, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Does anyone here think it's weird that this guy has EXACTLY 15 gigs?
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I love your addition of the word illegally, like you wouldn't want to email large videos that you had made yourself to anyone.
- MattJF317, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Note: Apparently it's only Google Apps for Your Domain
That doesn't include Gmail right now, but hopefully it will
Here's a screenshot that someone posted http://static.flickr.com/108/283808076_6f808a498b_o.png - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Maybe it has something todo with introducing GDrive??
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12In the world of internet services the only way to survive is to oversell these days.
- ml7667, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12jeez, how big are their servers?
- cds0528, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This story isn't accurate anymore, the storage seems to have been reversed:
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/GMail_s_15GB_of_storage_REVERSED - Intrepion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Yo mama so fat, she needs 15 GB attachments to send her pics
- herculez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I don't have 15 gigs, but I just noticed I now have 50 invitations to give out... and if I give them all to myself, that makes 100 gigs!
- RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It doesn't bother me to share my e-mail address with the public. I enjoy engaging and connecting with new people.
- mwhitney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I definitely believe it, but two people noticing it doesn't mean it's not a mistake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Interestingly, most people use hard drive space for storing things.
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@Daedalus
ummm...GSpace
that nice little firefox extension could make use of all the space most certainly - Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"There are at least two people who noticed it, so it's hard to consider this a mistake."
So two people noticing something automatically makes it not a mistake? - puggy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I have this friend, Bob Sacamano. Well, he needs more than 15GB.
- Nitron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm still at 2GB with Gmail for Domains.
- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Ok since 5 hours have passed I'm gonna spell out the obvious... It's Halloween, and there's 3 trick or treat tabs right beside it in the screencap. I'm guessing... trick. Hey, I could be wrong, two people have noticed!
- striker1211, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7i literally LOLed
- Daedalus17, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7It has a cap on the size of attachments you can add. So unless you are willing to chop up your movies into dozens of pieces then Gmail is pretty much useless for what you are talking about.
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ditto. Gmail for Domains (GoogleAps) still reads 2048 on mine.
- BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jebus Crikey, that's a lot of storage space for e-mail. But I guess it comes in handy if you want to attach a PDF containing all human knowledge to that e-mail about the funny things your cat does.
Why not give out 20gb? How about 150gb? 2tb? Hell, they could make it say anything they want it to; nobody's going to come even close to filling it. :) - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ahem, two words: Blog spam. Most diggers don't like it, can't do much to change their minds. *shrug*
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2exactly. I have gobs and gobs of mail (I don't get attachments too often, and they are usually under 15 megs).
You are currently using 207 MB (7%) of your 2779 MB. - carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2especially when you have to fill it in 10mb files per email
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2this is not the place for such a discussion. perhaps you could email the admin staff at gmail instead?
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I believe Senator Ted Stevens was having a similar problem. You may want to check that your tubes aren't clogged.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1gmail has been resisting allowing IMAP access (POP and web only right now) because it could turn the account into a general purpose storage system. Plus IMAP is rather slow at going through lots of messages.
It would be amusing to write a Linux filesystem driver for FS-over-IMAP though. - larrywsm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I Wish
- carrotopp13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2gmail is already greater than 2GB... my account is reading at 2779MB
- CharlieInCO, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22779 for me.
- maxdamage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have this, gmail for domain, and all of my accounts are still at the standard 2+gb. Both manager and user accounts.
- bhasadu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1is he wants run his PC through GMail?!! :P
- PhantomZmoove, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'm like "what could be so funny" till I clicked it. I almost spit pop on my monitor when I saw that image. Good stuff.
- andrewpate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3LOL. I'm sure nobody will read this comment. But I just want to say. That is pure gold.
Freakin Hilarious. - soretito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have gmail for domains and Im still at 2gb (18% used)
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1My 2 domains still have 2GB only. *shrug*
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Um, yes they can. I don't want to know what they'd fill it with (music & pr0n?) but I'm sure they can.
- WhispSil, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Could that be a preparation for GDrive or platypus or whatever ?
- arjie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@Greenlantern33:
Sometimes you start replying to a message and then cancel that reply, except that it's been auto-saved, then that goes into drafts. - IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"Server Error
Gmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We're sorry for the inconvenience."
I hope they're rolling the 15GB in. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12779, not expecting anything though i was happy with 1gb, its not like i'll ever use that much, ive left all my emails there for the past year (352), and ive only used 53 Mb
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"no it is not netscape it is FIREFOX! duh!"
Look at one of the Tabs. it links to Netscape's website - RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Tomi,
And I don't like it when other digg users benefit from my own hard work -- hence why this Digg thread even exists. It's a "slap in the face" to see my OWN submission ignored, only to see it resurface via a "popular" user and secondary source. Afterall, it is MY blog entry and HARD WORK which started this circus of discussion within the blogosphere to begin with.
If I sound pissed, you're right -- I am. Put yourself in MY shoes, and you'll understand. -
