- TheChihuahua, on 11/23/2007, -3/+41FTA: "Facebook has the potential to revolutionize how we communicate with each other and organize around issues together in a 21st century democracy."
I think i just cracked a rib laughing. - Gimpishi, on 11/23/2007, -6/+27Because they benefit from their government control that Ron Paul would revoke.
- evanstapler, on 11/23/2007, -8/+25I just don't understand; why do so many big companies hate Ron Paul?
- lucciinthesky, on 11/23/2007, -3/+18No no no no no no no no no no.
This is ***** retarded. Not everything in the Goddamn world is a Goddamn conspiracy theory.
Things happen sometimes, and it has nothing to do with people who are out to get us, or Ron Paul, or 9/11, or whatever the ***** else people keep talking about on here. - Wacer, on 11/23/2007, -7/+20F*ck Facebook. Never been on there and don't care to.
- polymyxin, on 11/23/2007, -0/+10I've had the "Search is currently unavailable" notice come up when searching for some random person's name, or an innocent group keyword, and then have search work just fine when I search for some other random name or word. As far as I can tell, it's just a hiccup in Facebook's search engine. The inaccuracy of their results count is also something I've seen on things as innocent as a wall-to-wall between two friends. Sometimes things don't work perfectly. It's not a conspiracy, it's just how things are sometimes.
- shcforward, on 11/23/2007, -4/+12Here's to the tinfoil hat club.
Either way, it is kind of funny that searching for "privacy" on facebook yielded no results.
Although when I did a similar search, it found like 500 groups. So whatever. - Lenny, on 11/23/2007, -1/+9You're not missing anything worthwhile.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -4/+11why the hell do u use such websites anyway. get your ass outside and meet people if that's what you want.
- WorfoSAUR, on 11/23/2007, -3/+10So? It's their website, they can do whatever they want to do with it.
- Littleedgitt, on 11/23/2007, -2/+9good thing i didnt buy that dildo
*cough*
(just digg me down) - inactive, on 11/23/2007, -3/+10That made no sense whatsoever.
- kpsk, on 11/23/2007, -6/+12I've actually experienced that "bug" first hand. I was able to find John McCain but not Dr. Paul. If anyone has read about facebook's actual owners and executives, this shouldn't surprise anyone. (The article was on digg)
- j.carcinogen, on 11/23/2007, -3/+9Facebook got its original funding from a branch of the CIA called in-q-tel.
http://www.inqtel.org/about/index.htm
It seems to be working well for them considering how many people use Facebook. - rej1587, on 11/23/2007, -2/+7And instead of having 500 phone numbers to have to call each time there's a party, why can't I just send my facebook friends a message?
- rej1587, on 11/23/2007, -2/+7I lost my editing time, but on top of what I already said: Most people don't use facebook to meet people, it's an after the fact. Who knows how many new people I meet each day on a college campus that I would like to talk to again, but it's just too much of a hassle to get a number. It's a lot easier to meet someone at the gym or a game, and then the next time you go work out or go to a game you can just find them on facebook and see if that person plans on going.
That is...if you can make friends. - Wacer, on 11/23/2007, -3/+8One would think that the corporations would be happy with Paul wanting a free market but I guess having big ties in a bloated government is more important. If Paul put the control of the government back into the hands of the people they would lose power. Rich and powerful people/companies fear loss of control more than anything.
- Gimpishi, on 11/23/2007, -1/+6No need for blog spam unless it is directly related to the story....
- Pake, on 11/23/2007, -0/+5Not sure why people are digging you down, unless their just paranoid idiots. I've search Facebook countless times and have gotten the error shown. Search it a short time later and the error is gone. People just want something to bitch about in the hopes of gaining popularity.
- Chakat, on 11/23/2007, -1/+6Exactly. They benefit from our semi-socialism we have implemented. If that were eliminated, then they'd actually have to compete, and they don't want that.
- Nerfdude, on 11/23/2007, -2/+6wow, an article that loves ron paul and hates facebook. you'd think i was browsing the "news" on digg.
.....oh. - shauncorleone, on 11/23/2007, -0/+4And Facebook goes out and tries to censor everything. And see, the corporations, what they do, is they go out and tell Facebook what to do. And then, Team America goes and ...
- Lenny, on 11/23/2007, -1/+5And this is supposed to be the new google?
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -1/+5CIA = FACEBOOK?
- thespudmall, on 11/23/2007, -0/+3Myspace is owned by news corp! AKA FOX!!!!!
- deludeexistence, on 11/23/2007, -1/+4Yes they can. And they should. But users should also be aware, and boycott if they find it unfair.
- lasenorita, on 11/24/2007, -1/+4So phasing out the IRS and letting the people keep the fruits of their labor isn't a good idea? But borrowing billions of dollars from China and Japan and printing more money out of thin air is?
In order to tackle America's debt, you have to start by actually removing the cause of debt. America is spending itself into oblivion --- whether by wasting billions of dollars overseas in unconstitutional wars/occupations or spending it on inefficient federal government programs that is funded by money taken from the citizens whether they like it or not.
America needs a President who understands our economic and monetary policy. So far, Ron Paul is the only Presidential candidate who's even addressing these incredibly important issues.
And Nerfdude, please educate yourself -- about the dollar and about Ron Paul. As long as the Federal Reserve keeps printing more money (and not telling us how much there is in circulation), the value and confidence in the dollar will go down. Since it is not backed by anything of value, it is even more vulnerable. A dollar collapse is feared by many and is very much a bleak possibility.
For information about Ron Paul's principled and logical stances on many issues, please visit http://www.RonPaulLibrary.org - tdowling, on 11/23/2007, -1/+3After reading it a couple times, I believe the commenter is referencing two Facebook groups: "99 signs you have been at Ron Paul's house for too long" and "Ron Paul has lost his phone, numbers please."
I hate facebook groups. - reeder, on 11/23/2007, -2/+4All organizations seek to horde and limit information. The great fault of humanity: hidden intention.
- cryptoki, on 02/01/2008, -0/+2ahhh... how refreshing. the government is making their own phone and internet companies now. but really does it matter... they can forcibly do what they want with the competition too. (as in tap level 1 communications = unlimited power)
- polymyxin, on 11/23/2007, -0/+2They... they... they DO have to compete. MySpace, Friendster, etc. don't benefit at all from "semi-socialism." The top social networking sites are on top because people like them and use them, not because the government manipulated the market to make Facebook and MySpace so popular.
- Pake, on 11/23/2007, -0/+2Bah, can't believe I type "their" instead of "they're."
- avisotin, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Err, yes they can. The restaurant could do that if they wanted to. What the ***** is stopping them? The only reason they don't do crazy stuff is they fear for losing customers. Aside from that, yes, they CAN do whatever they want.
- victrola, on 11/23/2007, -1/+3Yes, because only Americans are paranoid about excessive use of power by corporations.
- Nerfdude, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1THE 9/11 IS A LIE
- Speed, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1Oh no, it is bad. Right now I'm income tax exempt (since I'm only 18 and don't make enough), and it still REALLY sucks, and ends up taking quite a bit of cash.
- skyfire1, on 11/24/2007, -1/+2Use quotation marks.
- stephbangm, on 11/23/2007, -1/+2Facebook, MySpace (Rupert Murdoch), CNN (Turner) and the rest of the lamestream media cronies know that their days are numbered; Once Ron Paul's in office, bye bye proganda and control! But we have to get Ron Paul the GOP nomination first by becoming delegates; As delegates, we'll be voting to pick the GOP nominee just like the electors in the electoral college vote to pick the President; Delegates determine and decide who the GOP nominee is---it's that critical! So become a delegate: http://delegate.notlong.com < Approved by the Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign Committee: Jeff Greenspan, Regional Coordinator
- Speed, on 11/23/2007, -6/+7Because they have thoughts? When you have a debt as big as Americas, how the hell is dismantling the IRS a good idea?
- thefinger, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1Couldn't they just open up and use Google for search?...
- antoniojvr, on 11/24/2007, -2/+3Yea, and you have the joy of being one f those smug kids that always needs to go against the grain. Go smell your own farts.
- IntoTheWired, on 11/23/2007, -9/+10Having read the article, I'm still wondering what the point of it was. I'm also wondering why it has received 63 diggs and (as of this post) has only one comment.
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1The? 9/11 is a lie?
i think u mean, 9/11 is a lie - EuphopiaB, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1No one is saying it is illegal for them to do it, but we can be rightfully pissed off.
- Firehed, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1Having heard plenty of conversations regarding this subject, most people are spending all their time on facebook instead of outside these days.
Real people too, not just geeks. - microview2007, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1The republican party, CIA, FBI, NSA, AT&T, an the rest of the republic spies and traitors who have mislead this country _DO_NOT_ take presidency over a ***** meaningless sight like Face book? Wake the ***** up people? Who cares?
- m0n0kr0m3, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1MySpace is just as bad. If you look up Ron Paul on myspace groups you don't get any serious Ron Paul groups, the first result is a 9/11 truth group and the rest are less than 1000 members. There is a real Ron Paul group on myspace which has about 8000 members, but this group doesn't come up in search results. I have personally emailed myspace support months ago. I received no response and was even told by the moderator of the Ron Paul group to "not make a big deal about it" in a thread for the group. On the positive side I guess it cuts down on the trolls that might spam said group.
- polymyxin, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1Or at least we could be rightfully pissed off is this was something more than a coincidence. As someone said in the TechCrunch comments: "If you use Facebook for any extended period of time you know that search barely works. Half the time it just says “search is down.” A play on Hanlon’s razor: never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence. Maybe they’re just having trouble maintaining a huge, live search index."
- mbthompson, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1Try using tinyurl next time to hide the original url. Basically you just stood up in a crowded room and shouted "Hey everybody, come watch this music video of Rick Astley so I can annoy you!"
- Firehed, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1And facebook should/does have that same fear. Given the length of time that MySpace existed as "the" place to be online, you can bet that Facebook is hugely concerned that the next best thing is right around the corner. Considering that their users generate their income, those users can certainly be considered customers - and Facebook would be rather smart to not piss off their customers.
