- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Comcast killed TechTV. That's enough for me to want to take them down.
- sparkrainfir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as for never supporting comcast, that is hard. in some areas like where i'm from all we have is either adelphia, or verizon dsl for internet, or adelpha or nothing for television. aparently comcast bought out adelphia too.. so its all or none for some of us.. that in my opinion is an ologopoly, however there aren't alot of companies that arent ologopolies, i mean - our freedom of 'choice' has been/is being striped from the choice of mulitple companies to work with to the choice of one, or none.
yes, there is such thing as too big, once they get too large, they control the market - can we say 'price hike'? yea - as if cable wasn't already too expensive. - kenhigginson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...they aren't so big that they can't send someone out here to fix my cable internet until next wednesday... 60% packet loss...4MB download my ass.
- ben.0081, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As soon as Comcast killed TechTV, they started to make Microsoft look like a family business.
- hendoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am happy with Comcast in my area. I think it is ironic to call Comcast communist, when they have reached the main goal of capitalism. I have had Comcast broadband for five years and can only recall 3 times it has been down. In our society we rarely hear from people who do like something. So if Comcast has 26.1 million customers and a few thousand are unhappy then those will be the one we hear from. I agree that ripping apart TechTv was crap but I have to get my broadband from some where, and until Verizon FIOS is in more than 9 states, I will be on Comcast.
- mdramige, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SOCIALIST! It's better than the government providing internet access. I wish we didn't have local monopolies though. If other companies could rent Comcast's lines, the world would be a better place.
- besouza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No Comcast for me... I don't think I would ever support them.
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No Comcast in my apartment. DishNetwork and Earthlink DSL. I get at least 4 Comcast mailings a week, and they go straight in the trash.
- furiouszebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think Leo and Kevin have 300+ million dollars.
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll never go back to Comcast. I've had DSL now for over a year and it's never ever ever gone down once. Not one time.
When I had Comcast it went down at least once a month, but usually more. I had it in 3 different places, the last time in an apartment. When their net connection would go down, I would check with my neighbors and sure enough they were disconnected also. So when I called their tech support just to tell them they have an outage in the area they wouldn't hear that, they wanted me to check my settings, wanted me to restart my computer. After about the 10th time of calling them when an outage would happen I just said "look, it's not my computer, there is an outage. I'm reporting it. deal with it". Sure enough, about 3 or 4 hours later they would get the hint that there's an outage.
I'll never go back. - rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have had Satellite tv way back before primestar was bought out. SInce then I have had Directv and Dish Network and I love them both. I have stayed in a few motels that had comcast and I could not stand having to have the tv guide in one hand and controller in the other. Digital cable you say? I could ony afford four months of that since I only have two arms and two legs. And satellite is still way better and way cheaper.
I also have Sprint DSL and earthlink. Never lost my connection once. 384/1500. Only problem I have is a mysterious NAT problem that never goes away even when i direct connect to the dsl modem and turn off sygate but I am still happy. - flickerbrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With the tons of negative customer experiences, I plan on never having to subscribe to anything Comcast. So far, the local/statewide has pretty darn good service and all that, they they do the damn bundling, like everyone else i guess.
- hugo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish Comcast was available in my area, I only have one local Cable TV Provider to choose from. They are small and overpriced, they don't even offer any HD channels. I use DirecTV, while not great, better than the local cable crap.
- HumboldtCounty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0to me cable sounds like a nightmare. i am not only talking about comcast either. i have dsl. it never goes down(unless i dont pay my bill lol)DSL will bevome faster and better, cheaper than cable when fiber rolls out in you neighborhood soon!!
- maxdefcon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0CTI is bigger than Comcast!
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is no different than SBC owning about 90% of telephone service in the midwest.
- cwl157, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Q: Is comcast too big??
A: YES!! - WorldBuilder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And PS... Sometimes monopolies are a good thing. :)
- WorldBuilder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have to disagree with you all. I've had Comcast for years now, since they bought out AT&T in my area. I get 6.1 (yeah, really) downstream. Granted, the 312k upload is terrible, but hey. Over 6 Meg/sec download for $40 a month is hard to beat...
The support is crap, as we all know, but tell me what major US company has great support?! - mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Stupid quotes from the article:
"He claims that the largest cable operator in the U.S. has denied room for his new lifestyle network—all the while favoring networks in which it has a financial interest."
If I invested money into a network and I owned a cable company, I'm fairly certain that I would make sure that network was available through my cable company. How shocking?
"“Comcast is a monopoly that does not like competition, says Orioles lawyer David Frederick, who has filed a complaint with the FCC."
If it takes only a 40 percent market share to become a monopoly, then any number of companies are doomed to be over-regulated. Besides, no company, no matter how successful, likes competition. - bvaughn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comcast isn't even down here in Louisiana, Cox all the way baby.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have had @home then comcast service for over 5 yrs with no problems.
- kloud213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0port forwarding will fix the nat problem.... but i have comcast cuz i cant get dsl and it goes out for an hour everyday. it sux ass
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, but you're not forced to use SBC if you don't want to, you can switch carriers and still use the same phone lines.
Also, SBC DSL doesn't care if you run a server on your DSL line. Static IP's are also easy to get with no more money than a dynamic one. - peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Also, SBC DSL doesn't care if you run a server on your DSL line. Static IP's are also easy to get with no more money than a dynamic one."
I looked on their website and they make it seem like you have to get 5 static ips and pay a bit more to run a server. - protoCulture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have no complaints. Stellar performance other than April or so, when they first went to the 'Gold' tier of 6m/768k, which is now 8m/768k. Other than that little hiccup--during which I was still pulling 1.5m/600k--I haven't dipped more than 500k off the max. Ever.
SpeedTV, Sundance, HBO, DVR, OnDemand. Until Verizon FIOS moves just a bit further East in the DC Metro, they're it for me. - npacheco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Surewest DSL was unrealiable.
Comcast differs to area, really.
It's great here in Citrus Heights CA. Fast and reliable. - Jaesin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Of course Comcast is a monopoly.
It'll swallow the world soon! - ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"COMMUNIST?"
Just because you don't support capitalism in its extremes doesn't mean you're a communist. There is no perfect form of government.
And to answer the question - yes comcast is massive. Corporations run everything these days, it's outrageous. - deviationer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wished the FCC allowed Dish Network and DirecTV to merg a year or two ago. At least Dish and DirecTV don't directly compete with each other anymore.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comcast.... Sell the Tech Tv (and all the program names)vto Leo Laporte , Kevin Rose , or someone that wants to continue the Tech Tv Name.
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have comcast cable and Internet and I have no complaints. Well, besides the whole techtv/G4 debacle.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not to say comcast is not big (witch they are) check out what channels MTV owns! www.mtvn.com
- Cable_Monopoly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comcast is definitely a Monopoly and there isn't a damn thing we little people can do about it. They have the money to influence our so call Political leaders. I'm sure we would've seen improvements in service, price, technology, and Especially customer service if it was allowed. No wonder they treat there customers like crap. What are we going to do? Go to there competitor? What Competitor? Personally, I don't care one bit about Television, but cable Internet service, you can't live without. Bottom line, the FCC should allow others providers to compete on the same cable line.
- cpubug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes they are a monopoly, and I hate it, they bought out TechTV only to destroy it so there G4 channel could survive. The BASTARDS.
If only AT&T never sold there Cable and Internet service in '01, a greater part of America would not have to deal with these *****.
I'm comcast free, use SBC DSL, and FREE over-the-air TV broadcast. - dewey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have comcast at home, and they are horrible in my area. (South-Central PA) They wanted us to wait two weeks to come out and look at why we were getting such bad signal on our televisions and such slow speed on our modem. We had our neighbor who works for Comcast do it on his day off for us, and needed a new line run, and a signal booster. They charge us an arm and a leg ($55 for 3.5mbps) in our area, and give us bad service. Not to mention the amount of downtime we have, I would switch if we had an alternative, but I live in a small town, with no other cable companies, and DSL isn't an option because we're very far from the telephone company.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MTV doesn't own anything, Viacom owns MTV and all the subsidaries. Viacom is a monopoly.
- andrew_m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my comcast cable i just got has all the channels, that i didn't sign up for. sometimes big misses little mistakes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey! I wouldnt mind the goverment paying for my Internet Connection! Id give up all my health benefits for a nice 10mb connection!
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comcast is ranked pretty high in terms of service....I have adelphia which was just bought by comcast and if there's a bad thunderstorm my cable internet goes down....hopefully comcast will fix this once the take over is complete.
- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes they're to big. Of course I work for CableVision so my opinion is biased.
- rousehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll never forgive them for what they did to TechTV.
- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0COMMUNIST!
- furiouszebra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think it's hilarious that this was posted by someone with a TechTV avatar.
- rawr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They suck.
- theman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is off topic but rcn has a lot of customers and they are great just my 2cents
