- marshaling, on 06/10/2008, -2/+28Seems like a lot of huff and speculation. There is no proof in this article that actually supports the title. Reminds me political speculation.
- kevdotbadger, on 06/10/2008, -1/+6*****
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -0/+5Everyone wants a Kindle?
- ybnormalman, on 06/10/2008, -1/+6Would it be a story if every Wal-Mart in the country suddenly closed its doors for several hours in the middle of the afternoon? This is the same exact thing, only online.
Just because you don't have the brain capacity to comprehend the digital business model doesn't mean that this isn't news. - kevdotbadger, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4Disagree, S3 gets hit hard all the time.
- webkami, on 06/10/2008, -1/+5Sir I kindly request you to...
STOP SHOUTING
*goes for a glass of water* - RedWolves, on 06/10/2008, -2/+510am pct - 11am pct all while everyone was hammering sites like Engadget and macrumorslive who are using Amazon's S3 to host images and other files...I don't know what caused it I am just saying coincidence? I think not.
- Rekutyn, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Dugg for sarcasm.
- HomieG6189, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3If Amazon had porn to choose from the whole internet would go down.
- diabulos, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2The British site also had intermittent outages yesterday.
- Shogi, on 06/10/2008, -1/+3Or maybe it's all the heat. Excessive heat can put out Servers pretty quick too.
- webkami, on 06/10/2008, -4/+6Do not know about Friday, but later on it might be Digg Test Effect...
"Diggers just going there and checking if it is ok." - tomlit, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Are they streaming HD content?
- lcmatt, on 06/10/2008, -1/+3Tried torrents before and though they had too many bits in them. Binaries are nice and chewy though.
- HonoredMule, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Statistically speaking, it must be (60 + 100 + 55) / 3 percent speculation.
So somewhere in there is an estimated 28.3% worth of non-speculative information. - jdm0778, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2I'd say, probably 55% speculation
- webRat, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2Your 60% might be 100% speculation.
- rohcky, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2For some reason, I read it as "Tourettes, anyone?"
- kevdotbadger, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1As long as my order get dispatched when the site is working i'm happy.
- Ryosen, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1When is Amazon just going to come out and admit that they've been under a denial of service attack these past several days?
- carlosos, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1Am I the only one that read the article in hopes to find out about the new service but got disappointed when read it?
I really hope Amazon.com can get the movie download system working well. Maybe an unlimited plan like netflix (with more/newer movies) or ad supported shows like hulu but with media center support (for xbox360 and PS3) - kevdotbadger, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Incorrect, i had troubles with the uk site the other day.
- xero69, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Maybe Amazon decided to "unbox" some porn and their test group is hogging all the bandwidth for "testing"
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -0/+0I am beside myself with laughter over your comment.
- bbqsalad, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1Perhaps it is because this is the like 20th story about Amazon being down for an hour making the front page in the last 2 days?
- marshaling, on 06/10/2008, -0/+0haha...reminds me of that direct tv ad. 50% of statistics can be made to say anything 30% of the time.
- webRat, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1I doubt it. He knows if he wants unbox to work right, he's going to have to break a few things and it's going to cost him.
- zero21xxx, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1Buried for not possessing enough left pinky finger dexterity to turn Caps Lock off.
- DYMongoose, on 06/10/2008, -2/+2What is "pct"?
- kevincw01, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1makes you wonder why anyone cares
- ihavebeenseen, on 06/10/2008, -2/+2might be 60% speculation
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -4/+3Who cares? It's called growing pains. More important is ***** going on.
- kevdotbadger, on 06/10/2008, -3/+2what a dumbass...
- fLUx1337, on 06/10/2008, -2/+1Pacific time - its meant to be PDT, but I guess RedWolves thought it was PaCificTime.
- KaivenTor, on 06/10/2008, -4/+2Makes you wonder though... Amazon hasn't come out and said exactly what's happening, so either they don't know, are waiting for the appropriate fix, or are testing fixes. Seems to only be the US side that's getting hit, so it's logical to narrow it down to services like UnBox.
Also makes you wonder if Amazon went down just to remind us how much we count on it being up most of the time. Maybe one of these days, the site will back up as "Amazon Classic" with that always up feel to it (and those dreadful circa 2000 styled tabs).
Either way, Amazon is certainly getting some publicity out of this, good or ill. - Surferess, on 06/10/2008, -3/+1Bezos must be just beside himself with all this going on.
- Jitan, on 06/10/2008, -4/+2It's obvious the Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Bundle pre-order is what knocked Amazon offline.
- jarjarwang, on 06/10/2008, -3/+1The Battlestar Galactica effect.
- galvo, on 06/10/2008, -3/+1Torrents, anyone?
