- ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -14/+55I give it a week and you will all change your mind. It's different, it takes some getting used to. Most of us have become such a routine Digg user that this throws a kink in the daily plans. Having to learn something new.
Stop being such old crotchety people and embrace change. - docbot, on 10/12/2007, -36/+72old design was much more usefull. it just looks confusing now and even the color scheme and overall design is worse.
wonder what we did to deserve this. - grevvvvvv, on 10/12/2007, -18/+50Agreed, this is terrible. Content used to be centered in the screen, now everything is either on the left or the right. Digg's old layout was much more pleasing to the eyes.
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36What I liked about the old design was that your profile was in the left hand panel, making it more of a personal experience rather than just another news site.
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -10/+37WTF IS UP WITH YOU PEOPLE!?
This new layout is way better than the old.
1. It is NOT cluttered (@Judgement, are you retarted? The site has a dynamic width instead of a fixed with = less clutter)
2. Color scheme = nice. It makes the website more userfriendly, dividing content areas into colors rather than boxes = easier for the brain to read.
3. VIDEOS! This new section, and the playback directly within digg = nice!
And these are just some of the new great improvements. - bobpaul, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34I don't get it. It's just ugly now. What's the new feature? Where's the unlimited reply levels? Seriously...
- MaddDog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32I think they have made some positive changes. I like the time stamp given to when a story is made popular, which actually means something, instead of "story was submitted 'x' hours ago", x{1,..24}, which meant nothing.
Next up - fully threaded comments, pretty please? - deut, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30I'd like to say a big thank you to the digg team for this update.
I was one of the guys who vehemently complained during the digg 3.0 update back in July. Having been used to the 2.0 site for some time, I didn't like how 3.0 squashed all the content, leaving loads of white-space either side of the center and the fact that the content was no longer on the left.
But you know what? I got used to it and in the end, it didn't bother me that much after a while.
Now despite all the negative comments above, having seen the content go back to the left, links on right (...as it was pre digg3.0) and the content actually fill the width of the screen, I personally think the new site look rocks.
Just goes to show the thankless task that the digg crew have of keeping all their users happy. -> Well done digg, early xmas present for me ! - ajbarnes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27What was wrong with the old design?
- Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Id say give it some time. Right now its weird because we are all use to the old way. I kinda like this set up actually, it feels less crammed together.
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20FireFox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) and adblock (http://adblock.mozdev.org/) and you'll never have to complain about banners.
- TheGeneral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Well...the comments are still as dumb.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17People hated Digg v3. As soon as v4 comes out everyone loved v3. People have no clue what they want, the just like hearing themselves talk.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Nothing pleases anybody around here does it? When v3 was launched, everybody complained that the site was not wide enough. They made it wider and now that sucks? I don't get it.
- stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@tainedhero
I dugg your reply because of your lack of laziness when using the accent over the e. - tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Fark called, They want their clichés back
- cronot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Like the new design, but in the end, it's all fluff. Doesn't look like they bothered to make changes to the engine itself, i.e. the comment system, that's still crap. Yea, I know a lot of you folks out there begrudge the threaded commenting system, but it just it's a PITA to engage on organized and thoughtful discussions without it.
I could live without the threading though, if they could just move the text box near to the comment you're replying to (in the case you're replying a comment, of course). And this is so damn easy to do, that it upsets me they focus more on design than on usability issues. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13What ads?
Adblock+ FTW! - Hoovooloo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I kind of like it. It loads faster, and the actual content can take up more of the screen- no more scrolling down while reading a long comment. Overall, it's much more subdued and focused on the comments, which I feel is a good thing
- bSimms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wow, I feel dumb that I never knew something like this existed. Thanks!
- KooLLaiD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Please tell me there is a way to go back to the Old design! This layout just hurts my head :(
- etcetera, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Ad-block'd!
I didn't even know there was an ad there. If you aren't using adblock, you should be. - stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No... KRose is making millions, don't you read TIME?
- mbrutsch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10'Bout damn time. Nothing like taking it down on a Monday morning, eh?
I don't like the new look either. But whenever someone spends that much time creating something, they have to stick with it, or "lose" their investment.
Now the fan-boys will Digg this down; that's what makes Digg what it is. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The old design + new features would have been better. The top ten of the last 24 hours on the right hand side is brilliant.
Friends feature is still not up to par; neither are the commenting features.
Everyone is commenting about this alleged "faster load time" but I don't see much of a difference.
Log in screen is nice.
Did I miss anything? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Horrible redesign. Do you guys ever beta test with the users?
All in an attempt to "purty" up the site to sell it? Disgusting. - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I think we'll be seeing some users whip up some really nice alternatives as a result of this design update.
- doxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Kevin does a demo of all the new features here: http://blog.digg.com/
- Irco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't know, I'm not against change but...green? is it me or it doesn't look that good with the white and blue.
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Am I an executive? I'm not an architect, I just design the new features on digg. etc."
I understand the whole laid back approach but the IT industry really needs to take itself more seriously. Accept these titles and you will be more respected when it comes to make a business decision. I've seen far less competent people with more recognition (aka pay). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Finally! You can watch videos in digg, no more being subjected to the inane and completely retarded youtube comments such as a single line of "hahahahahahahahah" or "fake".
Youtube = ok. Youtube users = not ok. - bjtitus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Michael Arrington is SOO BORING. After everything they say, he's just like "That's great" completely monotone....
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The new layout doesn't encourage new users to sign up as much either. Log out of your profile and compare:

Plus: Nice clean design. I like the color scheme.
Minus: Right now, the site feels slower to me.
I like the widescreen, but the thing I noticed is that it makes it more difficult to follow the larger threads, and easily scan down the thread to track running conversations going on.
I like the placement of the digg tools and topics. Like I said, much cleaner, less clutter. - Laurentvw, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12I think the site is dead.... http://duggmirror.com
- Nebbie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The old design was too narrow to have properly threaded comments. All we need now is the support for properly threaded comments ...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Indeed. He is the cliché's fiancée!
- Jerode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://userstyles.org/style/show/1535 is a pretty good style to use.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*Tear*
Wow, the old design is even better than I remember it compared to this... - MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3change is good.
I like it. A lot less clutter. - tybris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, this makes sense.
netscape.com rips off digg.com, digg.com replies by ripping of netscape.com - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think it's great. The section links are at the top, out of the way, since they are actually used very rarely. The wider view makes reading more enjoyable, since I tend to run my browser maximized anyway. Separating the Videos section out is a great move, and the ability to view videos within digg is great.
I haven't played much with the podcast section, but it also looks like a fantastic addition. - ace77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No more mutual friends anymore?
- jayh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nothing is indented in Safari.. everything seems to be flush down the left - with randomly placed '[Reply]' links down the comments list..
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank God the stories are back over on the LEFT! If I remember correctly when Digg 3.0 came out there was uproar about that, and now that we have it back people don't seem to care. I believe when the initial shock wears off from the total new look, people will begin to see it was a very good idea. I much prefer it, like a lot. It's like when AI moved to the latest version of vBulliten, everything went widescreen, and while it was a shock at first I can why they did it. We have widescreen displays now guys, why not make use of them?
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's called your Home button on your keyboard.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I sort of like the new design--I think having a fixed with layout is a waste of space; especially on wide screen monitors. Though given all this new space can't Kevin get someone to make nested comments for once? That would be my #1 request
- cubbieco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why all of the updates and the new features when you can't even fix the stupid bugs that have existed since digg 1.0????
What do we have to do to get this to remember my content threshold. Fix it already. It can't be that hard. A simple query when we log on. Stick it in a cookie. I don't care. I get really tired of changing the content viewing threshold every time I look at some comments. At least make it remember during the same session.
Come on guys. - maddendude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ahhhhhhh
so I go on Digg right when I wake up, as usual, my eyes are barley open, i look at the screen, and OMFG, its all different. It makes my eyes hurt. MY eyes keep wandering to the right, but I have to force them to the left. It just doesnt make sense ;( WONT YA LET ME LIVEEE!!!!!
I dont know if I can go on, im gonna go cry in a corner, brb. - Nebbie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the top right side just above the "Friends" section there is a button you can press to set a topic as your homepage. Set it up for News->All Topics and you are good to go
