- dhess, on 10/10/2007, -2/+92Hmm, I guess I should get some counseling. Anyone know any good sites?
- esotericguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+63I'm not addicted. I CAN QUIT WHENEVER I FEEL LIKE IT!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+61Internet addicts dont scare me, WOW addicts scare me.
- kajoob, on 10/10/2007, -2/+56I think he would say, "Digg is on the internet, you retard"
- geekchic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35I wonder what he would have to say about "Digg Addiction"
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I've been told I should be addicted to so many things that I don't give a damn anymore.
Furthermore, if you can make $$$ of off it, it's not an addiction, it's a job. - danconia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Dugg... but only as a cry for help
- victorguttmann, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21My doctor once told me I had internet addiction. I replied "Good now I have an excuse."
- aryo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18"I used to suck dick for coke. Now that's an addiction. You ever suck some dick for [internet]?"
- bearded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I'd say it's a form of OCD as evidenced by any eBay seller sitting in front of their auction hitting refresh every 1.5 seconds.
- Dested, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Thats only because the internet is more fun than making sure your crayons are in the correct order.
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12No, that's just greed.
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Keywords: "an Israeli psychiatrist said." This is what one professional believes. When I clicked the title I was expecting some big study/article.
- Harrison88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Hello everyone. My name's Sean and I'm addicted to the internet. Woop, first step to recovery. Does it still count if I dont actually want to quit?
- underdog5004, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11I don't do too much. I just do enough to make it through the day.
- lakush, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11What does OCD have anything to do with an addiction??
- Foamator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6He'd have to call it something snappy for us to Digg it up, like an "ADiggtion".
*sigh*
Sorry guys for that one. Really, I am. - nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I have it mildly
I have it mildly
I have it mildly
too insensitive? - cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm on the 12-click program.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Not as satisfying though.
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5it is if you go to a website that lets you sort your virtual crayons.
- kahrn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Join the club.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Plus, the IRC Cops or Anonymous will come after you once they have sensed that you have left the collective, and will put you back in place.
- laterallateral, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Addiction is also a chemical imbalance in the brain.
The comparison makes sense, the article is ***** naive, though. - moo083, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Agreed Murdat. If someone spent all their time running, people would say they were devoted, bettering themselves. The instant it involves a computer its an addiction.
True, addiction is possible, but people think lots of time spent == addiction. - allen2003, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5WHAT Israel has intarnet? :O
- MoClippa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I have internet addiction AND ocd.... noooooooooooooooooo!
- SuperMoses, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They're not comparing addictions (as if OCD is an addiction) they're comparing addictive disorders with OCD
- repete, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Basically you can get addicted to anything. And a sex/porn + internet addiction is a hard combo to shake...:-(
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Seems a bit of a stretch. OCD isn't an addiction. An addiction is something that is learned, OCD is an imbalance in the brain (I have it mildly).
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3probably, however heroin addicts also suffer physical and mental symptoms when deprived of heroin, commonly known as withdrawl.
if you can spend 15 hours a day doing something and then go without for an extended period of time without suffering withdrawl, its just an intense hobby, not an addiction, if you however, end up feeling irritable, depressed and feel like you MUST have whatever it is, that is an addiction - holysin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You can always take an "Internet addiction test" at http://www.netaddiction.com/resources/internet_addiction_test.htm It looks like the person running the site took an alcohol/drug addiction test and tweaked it a bit. My favorite part is they offer on-line "sessions" , a blog, and yes... pod casting.
- ThndrShk2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No you cannot. Noone can escape the internet. You will be accepted into the mainframe. Opposition to such is an unfruitful labor.
or how you say, 'Resistance is Futile' - championchap, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Heh, I'm there. 5am last night.
Need to cut back a tad for sure. - Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I never said that addiction wasnt possible.
people can get addicted to anything.
I am just saying that people tend to confuse enthusiasm for a hobby with addiction.
large quantites of time spent on something does not constitute addiction, the symptoms you mentioned above do. - laterallateral, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ha! Coming to countries with social medicare soon: Medicinal internet. "You go to this place where you can't leave for 14 hours but they have really good DSL. After a few weeks it's down to 56k... Later you find out you had been surfing the LAN for a month. Cheap bastards"
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3So ONE psychologist says this? Out of all the thousands of psychologists in the world? That means that it's almost certainly untrue.
- bizchris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"10. How often do you block out disturbing thoughts about your life with soothing thoughts of the Internet?"
LOL - Vazel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I understand how jaded you are but the problem isn't in studying mental disorders it's in all those psychiatrists that over-diagnose everyone.
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3also, just because you use something a lot does not make you addicted.
back when I used to play wow (just after launch) i used to play up to 12 hours a day, now while some would say that makes me adidicted, i say no, I just really enjoy it and at the time I had the free time to spend enjoying myself. also their addiction argument would fall down when I would once a month lose acess to wow for a week and not really care, I cared more about not being able to chat to mates then I did not being able to play.
so in summary, just because you enjoy something and spend a majority of your time on it, does not mean you are addicted. - ThndrShk2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Not insensitive enough. OCD isn't usually that blunt, but with the compulsion of adding (I have it mildly) at the end of each posting is more OCD than just repeating something.
Repetition is usually just a sign of brain damage (I have it mildly). - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Shall we delete the internet and go cold turkey then?
No wait, think of the porn, the precious porn! - beta1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This page and "whyfirefoxisblocked" make about the same amount of sense, lol.
- Swift2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Actually, the American Psychological Assoociation's book of sicknesses is sick. Every time there's a new manifestation of the same old, basic diseases, they name it something else, but tell me: somebody who goes to a porn site 15 times a day is probably sick, but the Internet isn't the addiction. That's just what those who are sick -- with depression, or loneliness, or OCD, whatever -- are focusing on. If somebody practices kinky sex, do we call it "the rubber suit" disease? No, it's just a fetish. Old as the hills. It's just had a new manifestation, and some entrepreneurs have sold a lot of rubber suits because some have this compulsion.
There's a fairly large proportion of humankind who are sick. They get on the Internet because there is one. No new psychological diseases. My Space did not invent sexual predation of the young any more than public parks did. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Get ready for a "War on Internet".
- Bloc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm sure most heroin addicts really enjoy heroin too.
- Sailboat37, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2YOU STOLE MY CLOUDSONG!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thats a LOT of DVDs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Better example: The Aviator
- ConceptJunkie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree, esotericguy. I am in full control of my usage. Why, it was only Friday I stopped to go to the bathroom.
