- Hosalabad, on 07/16/2008, -10/+39Oh great now the Democrats are going to start screaming about taxing their profits away.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -1/+23They must be pretty Intel... igent... Wokka wokka wokka
- hep2djive, on 07/16/2008, -3/+23The economy is not near as bad as the media whores are puttin' out there.
- nblsavage, on 07/16/2008, -0/+18I'm not trying to be unkind, but hasn't Michigan's economy been bad for a long time?
- starskii, on 07/16/2008, -0/+16That is no surprise that Intel is prospering.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -2/+17The wokka wokka wokka saved it.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -1/+12The news was a big relief for battered investors, although the volatile market still remains a concern, says equity analyst Avi Cohen at Avian Securities. Intel shares rose 1% to $20.95 in after-hours trading on the news.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -1/+11Wonder if AMD is in the same boat.
- tomz17, on 07/16/2008, -1/+8Nope... in fact quite the opposite!
But you better pray that they get their act together in the next generation of chips, or you are going to be paying 5x the price of a processor in a few years... - jonintc, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6With a 55% gross margin and most revenue coming from overseas, I don't think Intel will have a problem making a profit for the next 10 years. The stock sucks because Intel has not seen the kind of growth that Apple has had.
- Cancerkitty, on 07/16/2008, -3/+9It is where I live. Everywhere you look there are closed businesses, and people out of work. It's scary. I don't think it's like that everywhere, but Michigan has fallen on some pretty hard times.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -1/+7Companies like Intel should be in good shape, so this is no surprise.
- robbiemuffin, on 07/16/2008, -1/+6don't worry about AMD ... they can't fail
- lazaruswws, on 07/16/2008, -2/+6No surprise considering the fact that AMD has nothing good to offer compared to intel.
- BadseedJR, on 07/16/2008, -3/+7By putting "EPIC FAIL" at the end of your comment, you may as well have signed it "Complete Tool"
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Michigan is messed up. Although how many people sat idle and watched all the blatantly obvious signs the past decade saying American car manufacturing is screwed, and didn't try to retrain in a new skill? I'm not talking about rising gas prices and the near deat of the SUV/tuck, but the many signs that the big 3 wouldn't be able to keep up with employee/union entitlements.
- prullos, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4What is more interesting is the fact that Intel did an exceptionally high stock repurchase (for about 2 billion) in the last quarter. This indicates that management thinks the market undervalues the company.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4The guys at AMD are fighters =)
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5How dare they make a profit. I wonder if congress will investigate?
- askantik, on 07/16/2008, -4/+7That's nice. I'm still loving my AMD X2 6000+ and my HD Radeon 4850, though.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3This is good news, but I think part of economic troubles are because all the money we are spending on tech, look at what percentage of money our grandparents spent on stuff like this, a new TV every decade, we have so much cool stuff to buy, but now less money to save or spend on little local vacations... I'm not trashing anyone, I spend almost all my money on the new stuff to, I'm just sayin
- noheadhorseman, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3too bad their stock only went up 20 cents (~1%) ! poor intel...
- benologist, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Intel isn't on the list of companies we're allowed to like?
- chaos7, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3i'm sick of all this epic win fail *****
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3DUDE FK YOU!! I've already met ......... now that I think about it, 0 PEOPLE THAT HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS!!!
Although I don't know any investment bankers or union manufacturing technicians.
But engineering seems to be in a perma-state of struggling for good people...... - itstodd, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2We need a windfall profit tax here! I see ramapant capitalism going on! We must do what we can to stop all people making money. There are poor people sitting on their asses while this crap is going on! Its not fair that they aint got no money when the man is keeping them down...
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3Pretty much, that's why democrats won't let the young opt out of social security or at least invest it on their own... because they got to get theirs!..... and deliver to those AARP lobbyists!
If Bush was associated with Intel, and not guys from the bay area, democrats would be talking about excess profit taxes - onlyone0001, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Thanks to you Intel! At least we have you to make us forget those debt resellers for a while.
- INTERNETMASTER, on 07/16/2008, -2/+3INTEL ROCKS B]
- prullos, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I was commenting on the shares of the company...
They seem to have been undervalued - hpymondays, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1The reason for Intel's revenue gains is the weak dollar. In fact, all they need to do is sell the same number of chips as last year and they will have a 10% increase in revenues. Wall Street was not impressed as evidenced by the stock price, which barely moved up today despite a skyrocketing market.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Intel makes great products. Very stable. They have some great tools to match components as well, to ensure compatibility.
- 2reflective, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Indeed. It speaks volumes about the current market sentiment. I bought AAPL last week to play the iPhone launch. You would have thought that news of 1 million sales in the first weekend would have sent the stock flying that day, but it actually went down!
That was enough for me... I've sold all my stocks and put the money into gold. - afx1, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2he does have "place to live"
- jonintc, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Management has been openly saying that the next billion processors will be bought in countries like China and India. The US will continue to buy new computers but not at a growing rate.
- 2reflective, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Normally I would agree with you, but this recession has been a long time coming. I believe we're going to see stocks falling a lot more over the next few years before we get a genuinely good buying opportunity.
- s0m31john, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2Next they'll be raising out chocolate rations from 30 to 25 grams!
- Daiken, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1How is that good news? Intel, which is already so big, is gaining while AMD is losing market share. Eventually people are going to get laid off and a monopoly will take hold.
- brad3378, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1The economy is so bad in Michigan that I used to leave my house in the Detroit area to go spend the week to live & work in Ohio. Late every Sunday night I'd follow a shocking number of Michigan license plates deep into Ohio to my weekday apartment........and yes, it sucks to pay for a mortgage in one state and an apartment in another state simultaneously.
Now I'm working a few more states away and I can only wonder where I went wrong when I decided to buy a home. The American Dream? Hardly. Should I take the cowardly path and give my home back to the bank, or should I suck it up and keep making payments for a few more years until I can afford to sell it at a break even price?
I don't even work in the auto industry and for all practical purposes, I don't "live" in Michigan, but this is really taking a financial toll on me and to be honest an emotional toll as well. Worst of all, there's not a damn thing I can do to change my situation.
Advice anyone? - Cancerkitty, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1It's hasn't been good for a long time, but I wouldn't say it was downright bad.
NonLeftist is absolutely right about the automotive industry and the people who are unwilling to try to diversify their skill sets. The writing has been on the wall for ages, and people seemed to be perfectly content to ignore it. It's not just automotive though, a lot of other industries are in rough shape too, although you could make a pretty good argument that they're all tied, in some way, to automotive. - NonLeftistDiggr, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Advice: Move to San Diego and rent while going to nursing school, become a traveling nurse, make a killing in CA.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Montevina chipset to rock Intels world even more this coming quarter!
-1066Mhz Front Side Bus Speed
-Up to 6MB L2 Cache
On a fricken laptop !!! - NonLeftistDiggr, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Move to San Diego and rent....
- Giga, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Stock usually goes down on launch day of well hyped products as there are heaps of people who buy early and sell on the day to make a buck. The huge abundance of shares being sold causes the price to drop.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Apparently, not anymore. they're making money. They must be evil!
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Its still a hell of a turn around considering where they were a few years ago.
- aserer511, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Intel: we can has lower prices?
- Giga, on 07/17/2008, -0/+0"Advice anyone?"
Yeah. Don't ask for advice on Digg. - PhantomZmoove, on 07/16/2008, -1/+1I thought it was the opposite as well. Seems like the media is always telling us there isn't a recession and everything is fine.
