- goat77, on 10/12/2007, -9/+50It's true.
- SlicerDicer, on 10/12/2007, -59/+2- 5 million billion zillion diggs as its only older "*****" intels that are slashed in price cause intel wants to offload garbage at garbage prices to get their garbage profits above garbage state so they dont end up in the garbage themself pilfering garbage for food like the garbage they are!
AMTI FTW!!!
Note: Competition and Price Wars are awesome though but only if intel does it on their _NEW_line of garbage! - venir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I'm not saying that it isn't true, but is it that surprising that a company comes out with a new product and declares it to be the "best in the world" ?
- bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -19/+5I'm not sure I'm comfortable with Intel's pricing lately. It really screams I don't want to compete with AMD, I want to exterminate them. Hopefully i'm wrong and this is just a an example where capitolism is for the consumer.
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15It's called business. Intel is taking an aggressive but very appropriate stance against AMD as far as business is concerned. Can't deny it's a smart move on their part.
- dysonlu, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Why 20+ diggs for a useless comment???
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3doesn't it seem weird that they're only cutting SOME, in fact, a VERY select few, prices? it's like someone at intel said, "oh, those 541s were ***** up. cut their price; and cut the prices of those other cpus which were ***** up as well." it's like there was a FREAK accident at the intel plant, somewhere, and a lot of cpus of certain models got... well, y'know.
anyway, i could just see that happening. :P - sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4because It's true
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2That headline is SUSPICIOUSLY like spam. They're cutting PENTIUM 4 prices by 60 percent. Who gives a fark? As for the rest: of course they think it's the best, it's their product.
I call corporate shill on the poster. If you need a raise, take your shell game somewhere else.

- ArthurBrazil, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Hmm i might just pick me up one of these then.
- shawnanigans, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I have a question about a MacBook, could I open it up and replace the processor with a Core 2 Duo Mobile.
- omnivector, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12No, the chips on the macbook and macbook pros is sodered onto the board.
- Francky, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2You are supposed to be able to, but would need a bios update for it to work properly, so it all depends on apple...
edit.. oops, I guess not then, strange since you can change them on the mac mini :(
- IHatePants, on 10/12/2007, -2/+75The two sweetest words in the English language: price war.
- harshbarj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yep last week an Athlon x2 5000+ cost ~$700 and this week they are $320 at some online stores. Looks like my old 3500+ will be seeing an upgrade.
- ScottMaximus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I reccomend Overclocking an X2 3800+ rather than the higher priced offerings.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Price wars are good for consumers in the short term, but if they drag on too long, they can stifle innovation as everyone aims to cut costs to zero while devoting all their normal R&D resources to obtaining lower costs. In short, while a price war is definitely welcome after quite a while of seeing most of the CPUs I've dreamed about go for >$500, I really hope this doesn't turn into a long term war of attrition...
- monolith, on 10/12/2007, -23/+11Capitolism ROCKS
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16I am not saying that capitalism doesn't rock, but merely wish to avoid the great backfire that occurred when Dell lead the industry into a hopeless price war. Now computer hardware is of much lower quality than it was back in the old days, especially high end components which now are nothing more than the next generation of standard components. The CPU industry and enthusiast motherboard and GPU industries are two of the only remaining components of the industry that still provide some outlet for major technology innovation, and I'd hate to see this last ghost of the "days of good hardware" disappear into the abyss. Capitalism is great, because it gives consumers what they want. But you know they say, be careful what you wish for.
- busyanuj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah the duel in pricing has just begun.
with the new Intel chips beating AMD in tests, Intel is bound to gain back lost ground.
- trik, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3lol its not gunna matter how can this compete to a AMD/ATI integrated system? Its only going to force the price of both of them down :)
- fendee1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3after how many years.....then two years later amd best in the universe....and the seesaw continues...
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30This is slightly unrelated, but on this page (at least when I viewed it) there was an ad for Blu-Ray.
Their slogan? "Are you ready to experience BLU?"
Witness - a failure in the making, boys.- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I'm BLU abba dee abba dyi abba deee abba dyi. . . . . .
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -12/+9"Best in World" Maybe for now but AMD will have its turn again.
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9this is why i always wait before buying....i could have jumped at a notebook with intel core duo. but no! now i can get one with a digit in the name (which will be much better and not too much more expensive i hope)
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9you could be waiting forever if you do that, though.. Quad-core Intels are due in early 2007..
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6But just think - if you wait even longer, you can have one with a HIGHER digit in it. Unless you know that there's something new right around the corner, you simply can't win by waiting for stuff like this. Yeah, I'd never buy any Apple product that's more than a couple of months old anywhere near the WWDC, but in general, you can't sit around waiting for the next big thing. If you do, you'll be waiting forever.
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1well, i try to not buy anything ever untill a year or so after its announced. And with intel making all these imporvements and the maybe switch to nvidia from apple and WWDC maybe showing us windows integration, seems pretty resonable to wait..
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3:::
- iUser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Anybody think there might be a chance of this price war bringing down prices of Macbooks? Would really help my decision of whether or not to switch!
- Butros, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Probably not much, most of apple's cost is in their design, not the actual components of the system (otherwise their prices would be more in line with Dell or HP's). I'm not saying the extra cost for the design isn't worth it mind you.
- AnimalMachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think they usually upgrade the hardware of the model instead of lowering its price.
- chickenselects, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I actually just got a 6600 early ;) time to OC this beast to 4ghz on water
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2let me know how well that goes , what brand you going with for water and pumps, etc
- DopeWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where did you get it?
- jazh, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3I think it's unfortunate the Intel has the edge and not AMD. Especially with Intels still large marketshare, they will again increase it with this seemingly excellent product. Just wait a few years once Intel thinks they've regained their monopoly and start ripping us off again.
Price War = Good News for Consumers- innerspirit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7don't worry, there are enough intel haters out there to keep AMD in the game for a long time
- innerspirit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6damn now i'll be selling my P4 for like 20 bucks
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3What about Cyrix? ;)
- ACalcutt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is Cyrix even around anymore? Didn't via buy them?
- TechGeeknet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Man that brings me back to when I used to have a 200mhz CYRIX running WIn95 and thought it was badass a whole 64MB up from 32MB. Now my cell phone has more ram and a compareable processor speed. The days.
- ascalonx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Where can I buy one? >wimpers< I want, I want.
- DrunkenPirate34, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2An Intel Pentium D 940 3.2 800Mhz is going for jabout $190 US. (Roughly 150 Euros/103 UK Pounds)
Thats seems pretty good considering most people can Overclock it to around 4.0+ Ghz!
Thats over 8.0 Ghz of computing power at your hands!- doolittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would prefer an X2 over a Pentium D any day...
Isn't that why they produced Conroe in the first place?
- doolittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would prefer an X2 over a Pentium D any day...
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The Mac Pro is gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1So...
Is there any way to utilize multiple P4's all at once? If I bought 3 of those chips... is it possible to build my own "tri-core" system?- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sure. You'll just have to fab your own motherboard and BIOS. ;P
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Can I link up three motherboards to one harddrive? (please don't hit me)
Just humor me... I've never thought about this before and it would be nice to know if there are ways to utilize multiple processors... - moofree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No.
You could build a cluster though.
- rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22 company's, 1 war
consumers the winners... i love it! - artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well what do YOU guys have on your computer. Was it by choice or it came with the comp.
- timmarhy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2they look pretty sweet for a small database server. might be time to upgrade the p3 1.1ghz.
haha - anguijm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I blame Bush, Ted Stevens tubes, Apple, and the Daily Show for the upcoming dearth of innovation caused by the upcoming price war.
- NUBxKILLA, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0*calls the local vendor and stashes about $20k worth of ES prosessors*
MUAHAHAHA - DrunkenPirate34, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Do you think the prices of the Intel Pentium D's will go back up after the price war? Is it OK to wait. I am broke right now, but if the prices are going to shoot bac up Ill buy one and store it for a few months.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Do you think the prices of the Intel Pentium D's will go back up after the price war?
No they will not. They will be phased out entirely. Wait until they're almost gone. A Pentium D for $100 or less is still a great deal; AMD will drop prices to match too. Wait until the holiday shopping season at least, right not is NOT a good time to buy, the price war is just getting started.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Do you think the prices of the Intel Pentium D's will go back up after the price war?
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1does anyone here actually have a conroe? and how much better is it? what mobo supports it?
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Yes.
E6800 / ASUS PW5-DH Extreme / 4x1GB Corsair XMS
That's my new setup.
I tested it against my AMD X2 screamer (X2 5000+) and it absolutely destroys it across the board. It runs cooler too.
Conroe is the *****...for now =)
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Yes.
- BlvdKing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm not seeing the lower prices for Intel chips. Where are they?
- JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I just got my newest edition of Maximum PC in the mail yesterday. I guess according to them the Core 2 Duo Extreme (2.93 Mhz or so) will blow the FX-62 away. They even put it in their new Dream Machine 11.
Since both companies are dropping prices by big margins I might pick up an FX-60. That will let me keep my ram and motherboard. FX-60 with 2GB DDR 1 ram will be good enough for now. - nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Does anyone know if these price drops are coming to Australia?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why wouldn't they?
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2thats why i asked
- dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it's always good to see price-cuts :)
- duruq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody knows when the new Macbook Pros might be coming up? I am thinking about getting one when the school starts so.. And some insight about the quad core macbook pro would also be appreciated
- ArchAngel21x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Intel may be ahead now, but you can't deny that AMD pushed them to innovate.
- V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love my AMD64 and have used AMD for a while now but seriously we need these two companies leaping each other to promote better and better processors for cheaper prices. Best for everyone!
