- Wingdom, on 03/22/2008, -0/+32Google didn't lose, but as soon as Verizon builds their wireless network, I think we, the consumers, will.
- lucutus, on 03/22/2008, -4/+33We all loose. The most Evil wireless company just won all that bandwidth. I've known Verizon inside out for years. I've even partied with some of their seniors and lawyers and work for an X executive. It makes me quite sad knowing that there will be no benefit to the public only profit for the company now that Google's (Don't be evil) motto will not be applied rather the opposite. Did you know that MCI is now Verizon?
- ipek, on 03/22/2008, -3/+28It seems that whatever it does, Google can't lose.
- dattaway, on 03/22/2008, -2/+16$10,000,000,000. We end up paying, so I'm not sure if anyone really wins.
- Archer007, on 03/22/2008, -0/+11Everything depends on if the FCC can enforce the neutrality provisions of the sale allowing consumers to use any device they want.
- J3Holaday, on 03/22/2008, -2/+9The unfortunate side that I see is that Google drove up the price of the spectrum. Which in turn is going to be paid by Verizon customers in the long run. Sure, I may be able to use any device on their network that I want, but it's going to be out of my price range for a while.
- stavrogin2, on 03/22/2008, -2/+9Apart from their stock losing 200 points since November.
- theaceoffire, on 03/22/2008, -1/+6Only Google attempted to resist the Government if I remember correctly.
- olenick, on 03/22/2008, -1/+6Now that they've spent $10B they'll have a strong motive to get a network up and running ASAP. Anybody know how long until they have to pay? Hopefully this isn't some sort Bear-Stearns type fiasco where the government is floating a loan under ridiculously favorable terms that disincentives them from getting the network in place. Let them borrow the money on the bond market and pay through the nose because of the current credit market: it's a good incentive to get ROI ASAP. I'll gladly drop AT&T for a phone that has clear reception all over, doesn't drop calls, and tethers to provide ultra-high speed net access at reasonable cost.
- vertinox, on 03/22/2008, -0/+4You could switch to ATT or Sprint.... If you don't mind paying $175 for earlier termination.
- roho76, on 03/22/2008, -1/+5"Reasonable cost" Ha!
- Bkaufman, on 03/22/2008, -2/+6TINFOIL HAT FIRMLY ATTACHED...seriously, it doesn't surprise me that you have a marijuana leaf in your picture.
- smotpoker1, on 03/22/2008, -4/+7Verizon won because it gave the backdoor to all the cellphones to the government. Now with verizon getting all the wireless channels the government doesn't need the secret rooms in the telecos switching station.1984 is truly here now in the US.
- bariswheel, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2What's hilarious to me is that the word appears at least 5 times before this guy decided to comment and he still gets it wrong. Some people will never, ever spell correctly, their brains aren't wired for it and they don't seem to care.
Accept it and move on. - saisumimen, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1Better yet, AOL.
- locojones, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Actually it is an epic failure compared to Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, both of which significantly outcompete Gmail in terms of features, ease of use, and sheer number of users and growth.
- Tenoq, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2Yeah, Gmail is an epic failure. In fact, it sucks so much I'd like to complain - email your suggestions to me at locojones_is_a_moron@gmail.com.
- lucutus, on 03/22/2008, -2/+3Sigh, might as well sell the internet to HP.
- Technopundit, on 03/22/2008, -2/+3Verizon, eh? Couldn't happen to a nicer buncha guys. Before you subscribe, GET THE TERMS IN WRITING.
- Remlapw, on 02/13/2009, -0/+0we end up paying though... complete rubbish on verizons part
http://www.how--to-make-money-online.blogspot.com - pw378, on 03/22/2008, -1/+1With Google's 'open' provisions attached, you can now create an encrypting cellphone and Verizon won't be able to ban it from their network because of the open access provisions... so actually Google is once again working for consumer privacy!
- JettaMan, on 03/22/2008, -3/+2Just keep the government out of this and we will be fine. The one fundamental rule that needs to be followed is private property rights. All other discussions are BS.
- Technopundit, on 03/22/2008, -5/+3Did they teach you how to spell "lose"?
- locojones, on 03/22/2008, -3/+1And apart from every one of its services except search being a universal failure.
- justinside, on 03/22/2008, -5/+2I don't have Google stock - but if I did I would be a little nervous that they put in a bid in the first place. As the article mentions this may be good that Google didn't get the bid to keep focused on their core business - but why are they bidding on a wireless spectrum in the first place is a good question? What is their core business again? Oh ya, "we have an overinflated stock and will try just about anything!"
- joshak, on 03/22/2008, -7/+3it's only a matter of time
- thegeneral101, on 03/22/2008, -25/+0yeah, google is pretty amazing...
