- tomaburque, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Some IT schools use these surveys to falsely suggest that you'll make that kind of money right out of the chute if you just buy their expensive MCSE or CCNA course and pass the exam. Don't believe it. Without the real world job experience you won't make anywhere near that kind of money on your first job.

I think it's nice that he didn't link straight to the PDF... I hate that. - r00t3d0ut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't work in Florida if you want anything NEAR these numbers.
- charliechaplan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats about the same range as here in Aussie

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA thats awesome

I work in canada eh, and I dont really even know what category I fall under, I could be desktop support, analyst 2 or 3, or pc technician, either way I'm at the lower end of the wage scale... dag, I've got to get on with an oil company or something, thats where you make the money. - orabox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As for me I have always found these surveys to be understated (too low). This year Dice Salary calculator (http://dice.salary.com/ ) and this Robert Half guide are closer my eyes than in years past, still pay rates are all over the place in IT jobs. I have found that the areas that they are estimating growth in are indeed in demand but companies are still trying to get high end talent at post dotcom salaries and that is one of the main reasons they fail to recruit the talent they are seeking. It’s about the money; hawks5999 (2) don’t cry if your not paid enough do something about it.
- linuxgirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like I am in for a raise hehe
- orabox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry hawks5999 (2) , I meant to agree with your view not say you are whining.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My Salary isn't that high, but I haven't calculated how much benefits are worth. I think if I did that it would fall into the range. I think the same may be true for a lot of people here to. I didn't read enough to see if they take benefits into account.
- ever0095, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hahah, I work for RHI and I didn't even know this was online. We use these as tools to get in front of hiring managers. However, one dude mentioned these numbers are artificially inflated, and he's a moron. Yeah man, it's a conspiracy. =P This salary guide is anticipated by a lot of managers and professionals alike every year, and were we to "fake" the numbers that fact would be spread by word of mouth extremely fast, and it would be worthless as a marketing tool. A ton of dough is spent putting this together. For those of you making what you should be, rock on. For those of you getting the shaft, contact an agency (any agency, not just RHI) and see what they think your resume could pull for a salary. If you've done your resume correctly, a recruiter will know that in seconds.
- smanning703, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This seems lowball to mean, am i wrong?
- nicarley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's always discouraging when you take a job and realize you're only paid 3/4 of what your worth! It seems this guide was a little high, or am wrong?
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Robert Half gets money for placing people in these jobs -- as much as 20% of their yearly salary.
So, they are interested in keeping these numbers high because it means more money for them. - jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It *is* low in my field, and even on top of that, it says I should reduce the numbers an additional 10% or so for my region. So is this why it is a 'salary guide' as opposed to a 'salary survey', or... ?
- MaybeLater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The click-through was unneeded, however the pdf was interesting. I seem to be a little low for where I am. I had actually thought I was on the high side of entry level. Looks like I've been duped again.

.pdf files are like horse apples... - spafbnerf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live in South Africa.
What I earn as a fairly highly skilled person providing support to ISPs running our provisioning system (+ customising that software + doing allsorts) is less than 'helpdesk level one'. Hey, some-one in the states adopt me please .... I've been ready to leave for a while... : - bahamafan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Boy here in the Bahamas, you're gonna be lucky to make 1/2 of some of those salaries. Cuz thats some good cash, then again we dont pay income taxes. But, no wonder so much IT pros move Stateside for IT jobs.
- Gatorbyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some how I am not making as much as I should, is that my problem?
- sotloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well this is the first glimmer of hope I have seen in quite some time. I have 15 years in the industry a BS in information systems and an MS in information technology and I am still trying to find a job that pays above a prison rape salary. Companies have no respect for IT people and since the .com bust our professional status has been reduced to that of a janitor. If the country falls behind in the number of information systems professionals it certainly won’t be due to the lack of skilled individuals that are willing and able to work.
- ByrdMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Same here, need more money!!!!
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IT people get respect. But the days of getting big bucks (or even a job) for simple webdev or for knowing VB doesn't cut it. If you're having trouble finding a job, balance your tech skills out with skills, like business courses or second languages (like Mandarin).
- hawks5999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To everyone who is so woefully underpaid... quit your job and go find another one. I swear I'm sick of people accepting a position at an agreed upon amount and then whining about being underpaid. These salary reports are not a good thing because they make people think that just because they have a title (or worse yet a cert) that they are worth a certain amount of money. Really, people if you accepted the job offer at the agreed upon rate than shut up. If you don't like the offer, don't take it. Someone else will be more than happy to do the job. Salaries are controlled by market forces, supply and demand (except where collective bargaining is concerned). So if you really think you are worth more, convince someone of it.
- dogbyte_13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man im getting screwed!!!
- chipmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha... these are always entertaining. 2 or 3 groups that do these annually have no basis in reality. You will get laughed out of the office if you bring one of these things into almost any IT department nationwide. Reading that report would be interpreted by most that just about any IT person can expect to make at least $55k & up.
- Omicron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0underpaid by 10k =/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow. am i getting screwed.
- floorman56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would like to hear what they pay there IT people.
- ahoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...and the regrets for dropping out of Cisco's Networking Academy Online curriculum are starting to roll in.
- Web_Weasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You do know that there are hundreds of these published every year? I to work for a place that liked to shop around for the one that said we were all way overpaid so they could keep the pay range low. I'm glad I don't work for them anymore.
Still it looks about right for me as a Software Engineer. Good to know since I'm being laid off next year when they close our office. - lilfroger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm just glad to see companies saying they are going to expand their Help Desks. Those poor folks who answer the phones for these companies need some help. I don't know a single person who works in that field who says they don't have enough work to do.
- SadBeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i make slightly less than what it says i should for my city, but just barely. i do tech support for an isp, btw.
- Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are almost always much higher than what I see in real life.
- gweedoz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0High? No. Seems on the low side to me. Most Sr. level tech types I know make over 100k.
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow. These numbers, at least in my field, are quite terribly off.
- endernet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I seem to be within the range.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0These things are such BS. The number are inflated about 15%. The lowends are about what I have seen for senior positions. There is a sort a funny problem with these lists, they over inflate peoples expectations. I know a hiring manager that picked a new grad for a position. When asked what he expected they new guy said that according to his research a beginning position in their area should be a certain amount. The amount was more tha the salary they pay a senior person( 5 years in the position). After holding back amazed laughter they offerd him the position at a lot less.
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Thank you" for the Network World click-through.
Do you work for them? - Berkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0jiminoc and ribald_Jester have it right I think. That was a waste of time. That was pure propaganda if you ask me. I think we can do much better.
- user43, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm with wonky73 on this one. The numbers seem to be the result of wishful thinking of what SHOULD be.
- zenscope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0right on.
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Since when is Delaware and DC considered the South Atlantic Region?
OK, whatever, it is a Half report! LOL! - stuman321, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ahhh, Montana... the worst wages in the U.S. -- I suppose it isn't that bad since I have no degree and am making only a few thousand less than I should be making for my position.
- jiminoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm about right
- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What wrong with just linking directly to the PDF???
- rmgebhardt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks like I'm good and underpaid as a business analyst here in Minnesota.
- bootleg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Should I be going into IT?
- SilverRocket, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0overused and underpaid! read this and weep, bossman!
- iamhumble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0cool beans. even without a bachelors yet i am still making good money
