- roastedbagel, on 10/11/2007, -5/+131Granted this has been in development for 8 years, but I think we should give credit to Zach Braff, as Garden State definitely popularized this not-yet-invented invention :-)
- thewaz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+83"Flushing toilets?"
you mean so the poo doesn't just linger there? brilliant - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+71Audio or it didn't happen.
- Boshow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+55Instead of the ripping sound, you hear screaming babies.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+52but I love that sound ! I grew up with that sound ! what has this world come to?
What next? Flushing toilets? - LogicBomB, on 10/11/2007, -3/+49I think "stronger" and "doesn't break down over time" and "does not absorb sweat/moisture/smells" might be a LITTLE more important than "silent".
Just my $0.02 - reverand, on 10/11/2007, -5/+48Silent Velcro was already invented by that guy in Garden State, this guy is a thief! (a brilliant thief!) :)
- dfg59, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35"How much did they buy it for?"
"A lot dude...a lot" - UnglueD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Don't bring a velcro wallet to a casino. It's like the sound of your addiction...
- wileyAU, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Morty Seinfeld will be thrilled!
- viviwanu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20How are you going to convince me there's no sound with a photo???
- bsx42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Perhaps the ripping sound can be added to later versions. ;) The weight handling ability is promising.
- Jolene, on 10/11/2007, -0/+182004 actually.
I'm guessing, they first invented a time machine, went forward in time. Saw Garden State, went back to their original time, and stole the idea for them selves.
*shrugs* Makes about as much sense to me as silent velcro. So, it could happen. - actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19That whooshing sound was the watermelon comment going over my head.
- roastedbagel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Didn't even notice this comment which was submitted before mine, sorry. Although if you RTA, it has been in development for 8 years now, Garden State came out in 2003 I believe.
- rebopper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10That sound! That TEARING!
- defectDS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11There is nothing more annoying than hearing someone zip up their backpack 10 minutes before class ends and then slowly everyone starts zipping. Zippers next plz. ;)
- KineticShampoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Flashbacks come to mind when the rich guy who invents this in Garden State shoots flaming arrows at himself. xD

So goddamn funny. - mcottier, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6When I saw Garden State, I thought it was a great invention but most likely somebody had already invented it. Reading this, I just can't believe it hasn't been invented before.
- tuartboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I could give you an mp3 of it, but I doubt you would believe that either.
- Derrekito, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Wow this is great. I feel like such a dick when I have to open a dozen Velcro pockets (backpack) on the 5th floor of my university's library.
- manfrin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5First thing I thought of. "Isn't this what was in Garden State?"
- SwellGuy007, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6How will I know when I have successfully undone my shoes if there is no sound?
- ArtificialAnus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Yeah, the only problem is that this stuff looks an awful lot like dual-lock which is readily available and marketed by 3m.
From the amazon description:
"...strip of clear plastic backing with low profile plastic mushroom stems. For adhesion, simply slide over, push into place and lock. Reclosable fastener will not creep; no special tools needed for removal..."
I have played around with this a bit, and it is quite a bit stronger than hook-and-eye velcro. The version in the link below claims 4x as strong, although I'm sure versions are available that are stronger yet.

AA - squirrls, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Give it time.
- szembek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Expect to see this everywhere in hunting gear. That's the problem with a lot of camo, is that they use velcro which really isn't a good idea when you're trying to be as quiet as possible.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Build a better way to stick stuff onto other stuff and the world will beat a path to your door.
- mongoh8fire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No audio, no proof.
- badjoke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Remember those velcro binders in elementary school? Trapper-keepers I think they were called. It was always so embarrassing to have to sloooowly rip off that velcro flap in the middle of class to avoid noise.
Silent trapper-keepers for all! - lintmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Judging by the diagram, it looks like it would sound like a rubber bath mat being pulled off the shower floor.
- thekms, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You practically took the words right out of my mouth; good movie
- UrbanVoyeur, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Wow , David Letterman just Duffyed himself to the wall!"
Sorry, "Duffy" just does not sound as cool as Velcro. - thenumber42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Proof that Zach Braff is a genius? I think so....
- plosfas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have been waiting for this. Now they just need to make zippers that don't make a zipping sound.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yah my I-pass came with a special kind of velcro... both strips look the same, but it holds together like a mother... very similar discription, closely packed mushroom kindof things...
- rockorager, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Popsicles are for the summer time
- superfusion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Look'n at the picture of Leonard Duffy, I don't think he's up on a lot of indy flicks like Garden State.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How about SlidEng?
- chiriuy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree, people will come up with a more practical name to this than "Slidingly engaging WTFastner"
- MaximumPig, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What that article doesn't tell you is that the energy that was previously released as sound energy is now released as gamma radiation. So, no silent velcro briefs for me, thanks.
- grve, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2it's called "slef" from now on, you heard it here first folks :)
- ofenza, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I can see "Retro velcro jacket" on eBay in 15 years from now. Start collecting now!
- toxicredm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@mongoh8fire (#6739115)

- Techeon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Trapper keepers got magnets eventually. Still after my elementary school days though. It became all about the Five-Star binders... and then Trapper Keeper came back as 'vintage.' Lisa Frank made her way in there at some point. Mtv actually had their own for a while. I'm not sure what is popular now.
- theWrkncacnter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Alright! Super Secret Stealth Velcro!
- QuorumCall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1A guy told me he liked cherries, but I waited to see if he was gonna say tomato, before I realized he liked cherries just..... alright that joke's ridiculous!
- unfinite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Mitch Hedberg said that, although you already know that. But other people might not!
I had a Velcro wallet in a casino. That sound annoyed the hell out of me. Whenever I lost money, and I opened the wallet, it was like the sound of my addiction.
Also funny:
You know when you see an advertisement for a casino, and they have a picture of a guy winning money? That's false advertising, because that happens the least. That's like if you're advertising a hamburger, they could show a guy choking. "This is what happened once."
Ahh they're all funny -
