- TOZZiE, on 05/11/2008, -1/+91KaZaA still exists?
- spydon, on 05/11/2008, -1/+67IFPI doesn't understand the new technologies, they clearly prove that in this article...
- consonance, on 05/11/2008, -0/+56People, people, the IFPI actually has a plan here. Just follow me for a minute. Okay, the IFPI actually DOES want kids to use Limewire and Shareaza. Encouraging this trend and increased policing of the used networks will result in the IFPI finding children who have infringed on copyright. Instead of threatening these youngsters and their families with enormous fines a la mafia-style intimidation, the IFPI will graciously allow families to allow their children to participate in "rehabilitation," where the anti-piracy organization will teach kids about the merits of buying media legally.
Instead, the IFPI will test its secret super-soldier serum on these innocents, resulting in giant musclehead mutants akin to the Hulk who are pliable and naive due to their age, so that the IFPI will convince them that society was the cause of their troubles. Finally, the monster children will go on a rampage and ravish the Earth, where the the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, who are actually wizards, will rule us all. - ElBeh, on 05/11/2008, -2/+36Seriously. An MP3 file that's only 400 Kilobytes is obviously not an MP3 file.
- Culyt, on 05/11/2008, -0/+29You don't have to download a whole torrent if your client support individual file selection such as Azureus or Transmission.
- Shawshanksr, on 05/11/2008, -2/+32***** THE RIAA
- FapCommander, on 05/11/2008, -1/+28Limewire and Kazaa are legal, its just the stuff that people share on there that isn't
- sourc3, on 05/11/2008, -0/+27The 90's called. They want their propaganda back.
These people are "experts?" Dang... I bet what's-her-butt who claims to be making an impact by releasing this "information" on how to legally obtain music is pulling down 6 figures.
/me wants her job - MasterChief4134, on 05/11/2008, -1/+26Just wait till the kiddos download a virus to their mom or dad's computers.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -0/+25I think that Media Sentry is too stupid too figure out a way to track torrent users, so they want everyone on Limewire and KaZaa where they can get nice little screenshots of shared folders and don't actually have to do anything technical to charge the RIAA and MPAA for tracking those gosh darn pirates. They are probably behind all this.
- Craga89, on 05/11/2008, -2/+26As long as your not a complete retard and know how to spot obvious virus-ridden files and malware, limewire and others are fine. I use Frostwire for my music all the time, legally of course, and I've never had problems with it.
- Makaveli604, on 05/11/2008, -1/+18.. no.
just checkmark the files you want to dl in utorrent - TopSlacker, on 05/11/2008, -0/+16You couldn't make this stuff up...
- mCanada, on 05/11/2008, -0/+15Sneakernet + thumbdrive + your buddy = untraceable p2p system,
- mark076h, on 05/11/2008, -21/+46i use LimeWire frequently for single mp3's , do you have a better solution?
- Mechanicat, on 05/11/2008, -1/+16Shut up shut up!!
- mark076h, on 05/11/2008, -0/+12and Scientology!
- Callidus, on 05/11/2008, -3/+18FrostWire
- ThreeDee912, on 05/11/2008, -0/+12Well, it could be an experiment. The Limewire/Gnutella network is filled with tons of crap. If people actually listen to the IFPI and get a virus, they will probably get frustrated and abandon file sharing altogether.
Or it could be some kind of legal trap, so if someone sues them for some kind of anti-file-sharing thing, they could say "But we DO support safe file-sharing!"
OR it could be easier to track people using Limewire/Kazaa.
Who knows... -_- - Makaveli604, on 05/11/2008, -1/+13zip files have no place in torrents, rar files do for other types of media, but for music even the scene releases v2 rips without compression
- ArielMT, on 05/11/2008, -0/+11Use protection if you do.
- ers35, on 05/11/2008, -2/+13Limewire does not come with any spyware or adware. Care to tell me where you got this information?
- summercrush, on 05/11/2008, -3/+13this is how the big companies expose little kids to porn?
I always just invite them into my apartment and show them all my nude shots.
Call me old fashioned. - mark076h, on 05/11/2008, -0/+10Just like the pirate bay, ARRRRRRR
- compu73rg33k, on 05/11/2008, -1/+11Then download a version of the CD that isn't zipped. And find a way to get invited to a quality torrent site and you won't have to worry about this.
- amanilaenvelope, on 05/11/2008, -0/+10oh snap
IFPI, i guess your plan backfired.
what now bitches. - whytey, on 05/11/2008, -0/+10You may also come across terms
including “peer-to-peer” “file-sharing”, “Wifi”, “social
networking” or “Bluetooth”.
O'Rly ? - StuTheMeatMan, on 05/11/2008, -3/+18Sometimes the albums are zipped, so it doesn't always work.
- telepheedian, on 05/11/2008, -1/+10Skreemr
- hellopenny, on 05/11/2008, -0/+10I want to punch that graphic.
- sinkhead, on 05/11/2008, -0/+9Usenet? Although I do agree sometimes it is hard to find singles (sometimes RARed up with the other songs in the album), it is great for albums.
- hmunkey, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8Same network.
- ECas123, on 05/11/2008, -0/+11Screw that. I know of this Russian site where you can get music for only 2 cents a piece. The only thing is....all the songs are in Russian.
- shady8x, on 05/11/2008, -1/+10Awesome news, hope someone uses this in a court case claiming entrapment...
- synergye, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7***** THE IFPI!
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8The bittorrent protocol and Azureus (Java2) are open source. I would think that making tracking software for Bittorrent would be easier.
The only problem is having to continually download torrent files as everyone isn't on one giant network.
Also remember Aimster? They sued them out of existence for making a protocol that made tracking impossible. - doshindude, on 05/12/2008, -0/+8But it's no longer the Napster I knew...
- Mechanicat, on 05/11/2008, -1/+10Emule is slow as hell. Gnutella is much better for small downloads. Just stay the hell away from limewire and use frostwire instead.
- mark076h, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8i guess so, Morpheus is still alive also http://www.morpheus.com/
- Kikkoman, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8LOL, LIMEWIRE
http://cristgaming.com/pirate.swf - dawglse, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6The actual software is legal, just what people DO and share with them are the illegal part.
Because, ya know... you CAN share non-copyrighted stuff on there... just that.. nobody does. - eean, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7the radio station has to pay...
- falafelkiosken, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6Kazaa… limewire, of course, the all the pirating kids will get viruses
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6Unfortunately, governments prove to be even more clueless than some parents are.
- Brenky, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6Soulseek's pretty good.
- brkhobowriter, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5Don't ***** the IFPI!
- Nevarius, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5If i remember correctly Limewire also supports torrents..thou i have no clue how good it is.
