- Topher06, on 04/23/2009, -1/+41I think people have to stop believing that what they do in a public environment is "private". Walking down the street, or out of a porn shop, is not private, period. Whether there is a camera there taking your picture or your wife's best friend, if you assume to do something illegal or immoral in public then you should not feel that your rights to privacy are being violated because you opted to do it in public. If Google busted down your front door and started doing "internal" views of people homes for search online, then I would be the first person to protest.
On a side note, maybe Google's camera van's should play some music, like the way an ice cream truck plays a jingle, so that people can opt to ***** off when it comes around their neighbourhood. I think Sting's "Every breath you take" is fitting. - nepidae, on 04/23/2009, -0/+28I loved that game.
- MichaelBay, on 04/23/2009, -0/+12It will be Digg's front page the next day,
- CanadianCheese, on 04/23/2009, -0/+10I still can't believe this is was an issue. It takes about 10 seconds of thought to realize there is no problem with this.
- KeniF, on 04/23/2009, -1/+9what if google takes a picture of your *****?
- walgman, on 04/23/2009, -1/+7I am just imagining myself with ***** now. I like it.
- Spire3660, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5To some, porn is immoral. He was correct in his usage. I do not find porn immoral.
- Vaiper, on 04/23/2009, -1/+6I did it in 5 seconds. Beat that!
- daeyeth, on 04/24/2009, -0/+5I take it I'm the only nerd who thought ICO referred to the video game... was looking forward to some epic cosplaying
- welestgw, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4I don't see anyone with horns.
- cawfee, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4"You took my sonar concept and applied it to every phone in the city. With half the city feeding you sonar, you can image all of Gotham. This is wrong."

- joeboy68, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4I was really disappointed. when i first read the title, i imangined the main character from ICO bravely defending the google street view car, as if it were Yorda
- Bloodwine, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4I can understand people's concerns over such things, just look at all the big brotherish stories coming out of the UK.
So I can see why people are getting a little paranoid with things like Google Street View and redlight cameras.
As long as Google keeps blurring faces and number plates, it doesn't bother me; However, this could be the early stages of a surveillance society, and that does bother me. - vsaint, on 04/24/2009, -0/+3Clearly the streetview vehicles need cannons that shoot any passers-by in the head with a clipboard holding a release statement.
- celotil, on 04/24/2009, -0/+3Tell you what, if I'm ever caught by Google Street View as I'm walking out of a porn store I'm going to wave.
'Hey! I'm on the Internet!'
And if anyone asks,
"Why were you coming out of a porn shop?"
I'll say, with a big cheesy grin,
'Buying you a present.' - disappointed, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2You'll be done for indecent exposure.
- Nephersir7, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2General ignorance really doesn't help Google's cause. When searching for "Street View" in Google News, I realized how stupid people were. There are numerous editorials/blogs spreading misinformation, some thinking street view is real-time, others freaking out because of the new "webcam" feature in Google Maps or ignoring the fact that you can ask Google to remove a picture of you or your house. its truly amazing!
Here are some gems: http://thechronicleherald.ca/Columnists/9011441.ht ...
"One burglar's aid Fraser cannot counter is Google Street View. "I'm disgusted by it. Being burgled is a horrendous crime, and Google Street View makes it easier for burglars."
"Google Street View sparked outrage when it rolled out in the UK last month, but the newest option, Google Maps Webcams, could trigger privacy concerns and angry mobs all over again."

In Canada, many people asked to be told the exact time at which Street View Cars would pass. Can you imagine how unnatural the pictures would look if Google was to do that? Unfortunately, not all people are born with common sense... :-( - Karstark, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3No no no, it has to be something to do with the interwebz: Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up. There's your jingle ;)
- inactive, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2He's not judging you. Sheesh!
- Khast, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2No problem with Google Street View...so long as they never have live images. (With as many cameras as there is in the UK that could actually be possible...scary, huh?)
- Schmidtopolis, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2I think we passed the early stages of a surveillance society a while ago. Everyone's a voyeur with cameras in their phones, not to mention the self imposed surveillance we allow by just carrying those phones around with us.
- powatom, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2I know a girl who sent her sister outside while she looked at her house on Street View so she could check if it was live...
People who are that stupid should not be allowed to talk to the media. - inactive, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2A whole village in the UK recently bum rushed the Google van. Guess they don't have a spare 10 seconds?
- TheObviousChild, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2For a fleeting moment I was excited at the thought of a sequel for the PS3. I guess I'll keep dreaming and RTFA...
- inactive, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2I think you're onto something. And perhaps they should have a super loud horn they blast half a second before each picture so everyone gets captured looking as terrified as they seem to be about the whole affair. Dropping coffees, shielding themselves with their arms.... Run for your lives!
- inactive, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2Awesome is more like it. Next best thing to astral projection.
- Remelox, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2Whever someone complains about Street View, I am reminded of It Takes a Thief. I could never see those guys using Street View. They just drive around a neighboorhood and look for likely targets. They have to be able to see the sides of the house and the local activity. Have a dozen still images would not cut it for those guys.
And terrorists needing Google to pick targets is idiotic. They can also get mroe information by just driving past a place. - inactive, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1Are you planning to start being naughty soon?
- Khast, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Well, if you were truly that concerned about someone seeing them, then I would suggest not showing them.
- powatom, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1You mean like a....webcam?
Welcome to 10 years ago. - srg13, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1"Unfortunately, not all people are born with common sense..."
True - I mean, how much thought does it take to realise that Street View shows the exact same thing as walking or driving down the street? What's more, the images could be months or years out of date, so criminals would get less useful information from it than if they just drove down the street... - walgman, on 04/23/2009, -1/+2Personally speaking I never do anything I would be ashamed of in the daytime so for now it's fine.
- theonlybradever, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1google street view DOES NOT invade privacy. no one has a reasonable right to privacy while in a public space.
not to mention, i laugh at the concept of brits hating on streetview as an invasion of their privacy. practically all of London is under surveillance via CCTV. that's how the caught the 2005 Tube Bombers within about 4 days. that *****'s REAL TIME. google-streetview is once every couple years MAYBE. - walgman, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1I am very naughty already but only at night!
- jon02129, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1I take it you missed the first two comments (that i thumbs-upped, btw).
- taibo, on 04/24/2009, -0/+0Better yet if ICO and the google street car were yelling incoherent gibberish at each other.
HEP HEP? - nomand, on 04/25/2009, -0/+0That's why we all train our parkour skills for the time when we can no longer rely on digital communications =P
- Talphin, on 04/23/2009, -5/+3And how exactly does going into a porn shop fall under the category of illegal or immoral? hmmmm?
- ohreilly, on 04/24/2009, -2/+0Do you mean the cameras that only apparently exist (by counting the number of cameras in a part of London and extrapolating that to get a number for the whole country)?
