- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -9/+64I have an ambition to have the most dugg down comment ever.
- leetleo, on 10/30/2007, -4/+33There is already a site that provides Hulu's services, but at lower cost to the consumer. You guys should check it out.
www.thepiratebay.org - rivi2k, on 10/30/2007, -1/+27Hulu is for syndicated programs, YouTube is for user generated content such as bulldogs riding skateboards.
Both will succeed! - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+25Nowadays, as soon as something comes out claiming to be a "[product here] killer," it is guaranteed to be horrible.
- supermanred, on 10/30/2007, -2/+21The short answer is no.
- diggstown, on 10/29/2007, -1/+17The long answer is also no.
- bethebryant, on 10/29/2007, -1/+14***** hasn't even launched, dugg down for inaccurate as hell.
- ikickass, on 10/30/2007, -0/+11it hasnt launched yet... its still beta...
- thesonofdarwin, on 10/29/2007, -0/+10It's not there anymore, but if you check their cached pages for that link it most certainly is: http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:_BbGz5mhcqkJ: ...
If that doesn't work, Google advanced search jury, domain hulu.com, Cached page, and it's in the Other section of the page. - koonchu, on 10/29/2007, -1/+9WHAT.THE.*****.
- MattH, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8Embeds dont need a Invite code just cllick the Menu and you can do a limited search with the related videos and AOL has a HULU channel already ,
http://watchhulu.tumblr.com/ I created this as a test and don't have a HULU account
http://video.aol.com/video-category/hulu/110500 AOL has a limited video player for HULU - ostracize, on 10/30/2007, -0/+8I would check again, I see nothing like that in their terms (anymore?)
http://www.hulu.com/terms.html - Firehed, on 10/29/2007, -1/+9So, yeah. More of the same. Once again, big content providers prove that they completely fail to comprehend this whole internet thing.
- angers, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7US-only.
- cambrown99, on 10/29/2007, -2/+8Google/YouTube has had the backs of their consumers covered and have made billions for it.
NBC/Universal has treated their consumers like ***** and is struggling to remain in third place amongst other networks.
Tell me... which business model works better?
Hulu will tank. Hard. - zorpscorp, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7It's a trap!
- stargatesteve, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5I also like stage6.
- vinecrawler, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5then post video of you kicking them in the balls on youtube
- Sabot, on 10/29/2007, -1/+5It is very simple. Next time someone says that they have a Youtube killer, just kick them in the balls.
- OwlBoy, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3It should not kill youtube, youtube is not for posting full tv shows.
- mikehill33, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Closed beta does not equal a launch.
- Smills, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Wishful thinking.
- Firehed, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I rather like tvrss.net, but to each his own.
- supermanred, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2...or on that same person's so called YouTube killer!
- indraneel24, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2NBC + FOX joint venture.
- vinecrawler, on 10/30/2007, -4/+6I have an ambition to ban Ron Paul, leopard, and Ann Coulter from the internets.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -1/+3who?
- Corrosionx, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2http://eztv.it
http://joox.net
nuff said - FishHammer, on 10/29/2007, -1/+3yeah yeah youtube killer. right. just like all the other ones.
- loggia, on 10/29/2007, -1/+3This is all very similar to the plot for The Departed. Many years ago, a bunch of pirates sent young teenage Jeff Zucker to intern at the NBC Olympics coverage, with the mandate to take over NBC.
Now that he has accomplished this, he is fulfilling his mission to drive people to Torrent usage by pulling NBC from iTunes, yanking off the NBC YouTube channel and offering a crappy viewing experience on NBC.com. He has even managed to suck Fox into his new video site, for which he intentionally picked the name "Hulu" which received focus group ratings as "amazingly gay name" and "that is teh gay."
Finally, he recently moved the premiere of Battlestar Galactica on the SciFi channel to April, to insure that the episodes leak onto torrents way before that.
Jeff Zucker: secret double agent for pirates. - ISurfTooMuch, on 10/29/2007, -2/+4Aside from the fact that the site is still in beta, let's examine a few things.
People can:
1. Watch the shows on NBC.
2. Record them on a VCR or DVR.
3. Download them via Bittorrent.
4. Watch them on Hulu, which only allows you to see the last five episodes, and you can only watch them on a PC, while a VCR or DVR hooks up to your TV, and if you get them vit BT, you can watch them on the PC or burn them to DVD.
And, oh yeah, this is the same company that pulled its content from iTunes because it wanted more money. It's also the same company that wants ISPs to be forced to filter content and has proposed filters for consumer gear such as routers.
Yeah, people are going to be lining up to use Hulu. It'll just be a very short line.
And BTW, what the hell does Hulu mean, anyway? Kinda sounds like Hula, so every time I hear it, Hawaiian music starts playing in my head.
Yep, another lame site with a lame name. Next! - wedges, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1he must have been trying to be saracastic
- pkkid, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1But I thought they were not handing out Hulu invites. You need to signup on the site.
- supermanred, on 10/29/2007, -1/+2Hulu is doomed, don't kid yourself. Name one tv web site run by the networks that is a success. NBC? CBC? ABC? Where do you get your tv shows? www.eztv.nl I bet. Not owned by any of the majors, and no terms of service contract or other *****.
- Kakcoo, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2"The service is expected to offer full-length episodes of NBC and FOX television programs, selected movies while also accepting user-submitted videos in direct competition with YouTube." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulu
But i guess Youtube is still something completely different. :p - inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1oh goody I can't play the videos in full screen.
- Goobernutz, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Aww man! When I first read the headline I thought maybe Hufu was back. And I'm almost out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hufu
- supermanred, on 11/01/2007, -1/+2Ann COulter maybe but dont ***** with my Leopard.
- Smills, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2Too far.
- ubergeek09, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1This is humorous, Youtube should not be worried at all. The people working at NBC are fools to think that Hulu will compete with Youtube.
- ajamison, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Couple facts:
1. It hasn't launched. It's in beta.
2. It's totally different than YouTube, not trying to compete with it. There is no user-submitted videos, etc. - supermanred, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1I haven't got mine yet, I'd be willing to pass it along seeing as I would have to boot up Vista to use Hulu, and thats extra gay.
- Electrox3d, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the embeds. I noticed yes you can't go full screen, but on a good note they let you fast forward to later in the episode. YouTube could take a lesson from that alone. OH and... why is The Simpsons listed on Hulu? I thought it was a NBC thing...
- Electrox3d, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Lets be honest... the only youtube killer will be thevideobay.org once it launches.
- stargatesteve, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1youtube killer? haven't heard of it.
- quickfix98, on 10/29/2007, -0/+0This guy is already offering Hulu invites!
http://www.laudontech.com/hulu/hulu.html - pcobs2001, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1Not a Youtube killer, but a probably a Joost killer.
- thesonofdarwin, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1Gah, *beep*ing double post.
- supermanred, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1Jeff Zucker is out of touch with reality. He is going to kill NBC and FOX's online potential.
Love it or hate it, for a buck on iTunes was a step in the right direction. LEGAL downloads that work on Mac and PC. iTunes has a lot of shortcomings, but Apple has been trying to bring the downloads to under 99 cents (50 cents I believe) but idiots like Zucker decide they would rather make no money and piss off the internet. -
