- hockeystatman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29I'm one of the screwed RegisterFly customers.
My domain, daveandjuliebush.com, has been with them for years. I tried renewing it the other day and they were happy to take my money, but the renewal has been rejected three times now. Before they tried the last time I asked for the renewal to either go through or for my money back. Renewal failed, so I filed a complaint with PayPal asking for my money back.
Further research on my domain shows that ENOM is the registrar they used, and it's not worth $29.95 to me to use ENOM's renewal service on my vanity domain. As a result, if any of you want my domain it should be available after March 20th.
Thank you RegisterFly. I've been a loyal customer of yours for years and this is how you treat me. Drop dead losers. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Mythos is right. A bunch of these users seem to be posting lame comments, "nice one" or "great post" or "so sad", as well.
- chotocheeta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20if you have a valuable domain with them, get it out of their control, transfer it to any other registrar... Too bad to see a company is going down because of a single persons mistake...
- RedLion, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21"farooqaaa, bestquality, kanishka, trsaso, clajus, loonatic6, javagamerTR, tudurnas, navjotjsingh, Gursimran, champrock, dallasld" + "sasa001 and SeecR"
if we consider the probability of an user digging the same story twice as another user as 1:2 .
and if we consider 14 users digging the same 4 stories . . . the probability of all this happening in the same time is:
2^4^14 = 72057594037927936
oh my GOSH!!!! all of this just a few hours before the "red moon" will be visible.
the end of the world IS HEREEE!!!!!!!! run for your life and digg everything you can before it's too late! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13That is amazing, Using the money for Escort Girls, hahahahah !!!
- ZekeSulastin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I think it's funny that the whole swarm posted right after this thread :)
{EDIT}Damn, KMan beat me to it ...{/EDIT} - Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13@redlion , your understanding of statistical math is flawed.
the probablity of an event which depends on event a AND event b is a*b , not a^b.
If the probability of an event depends on event a OR event b, then it is a+b
Also, probabilities cannot be greater then 1, since at 1 the event is assured to happen - biffsputnik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9How so?
Fan of this blog, are you? (and your friends)
Was it the ever popular 'lose' spelled 'loose', the many other misspellings, the run-on sentences, or the actual content about a CEO who spent company money on hookers and surgery that 'helps you a lot' ?? - TwilightXaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well if no one steals your domain (and presuming registerfly releases it) --you-- could register it on March 20th or shortly thereafter.
- jtrost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wikipedia says: RegisterFly has filed suit against it's ousted CEO, Kevin Medina, alleging he stole company funds for a $9,000 escort service, a $6,000 liposuction procedure, a $10,000/month penthouse apartment in Miami, Florida, and a $6,000 chihuahua dog.
- ZippidyDoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Those people need a new more expansive list of English phrases to use. With less unnecessary spaces.
- RedLion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7foxtothe1: i gave a quick look at the profiles of the guys that Mythos pointed out and not all the same stories they dugg are from this blog
and after reading yesterday 's Wired story this sounds a bit disturbing.
phil246: sorry I meant that the probability was 1/72057594037927936. i don't know if that's right or not i haven't done statistical math for a long time - FidelBlack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36 grand for a chihuahua!........a chihuahua? Who the hell pays 6 grand for a chihuahua!?
- MDrake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I actually just got out of a legal dispute with registerfly. I had a domain with them for about 3 years and recently had $600 worth of fraudulent charges put on my credit card. I had switched my domain from registerfly to another provider, and they had charged me the $600 for this, because within their terms and conditions it says if you switch domains within /90 days/ of signing up with them originally, they can charge you an /undisclosed/ fee.
Long story short I had to go to minor court over this and file various disputes with my bank to get my money back, which I did. ***** Registerfly and ***** the CEO's libidinous lifestyle. - firepunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4In business ethics i'm sure i remember something about it being okay to pay for hookers and liposuction with company funds. I mean come on, we're not cavemen, CEO's have needs.
- fastfood15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i've used registerfly before, they really suck. They even still send me fake, 'your invoice has not been paid' email trying to get me to pay them money i don't owe them. godaddy isnt much better though...
- skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2way to use the reply button.
- indyweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If the registrar is enom, you can transfer it to them for free. Just sign up for a free enom account, take a screenshot of your RF control panel and email them a copy of your ID. Then email enom support and ask them to push the domain.
They did this for me and 20+ domains for free (no expiration extension, just a change of registrar)
The only thing that sucks is if you have a domain that is expiring that RF is the registrant. . .
Thats where I am with my most important domain that I live off of . . .Time to fill out that McDonalds app.
For more info check out this: http://www.registerflies.com - euphemizeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's what customers are going through:
1) If you used RegisterFly's privacy service, you're screwed. Registerfly is not redirecting emails sent to the scrambled privacy email. You have no way to "OK" transfer requests sent by another registrar.
2) If your domains are locked, you cannot unlock them. You can unlock them in your control panel, but it does not do anything. The gaining registrar reports that it cannot transfer the domain because it is locked.
3) The Authorization codes are not in the control panel anymore. It says "Authorization Code: " and there's nothing after that. I looked at the HTML source and that's all there is. No luck there.
4) Registerfly is not responding to ticket requests. I had no idea they were having problems until I attempted to renew my domain name which has since expired.
Since RF was dumped by ENOM as an affiliate, they require you to transfer the domain FROM enom TO registerfly if you attempt to renew it. When I attempted this I got an error saying that the domain name was locked and it could not be transfered to RF.
I called up ENOM on the phone and asked them what the deal was, and the guy who answered told me to "google registerfly". That's when I found out how big of a mess this is. He said he wished he could help me, but that RF's privacy service prevents them from "taking the domain name back" since I cannot prove I am the legal registrant.
My domain names have more sentimental value to me than real monetary value, but they'll probably be snapped up by the one whose name cannot be spoken from China as soon as they drop.
Other people are losing their livelihoods over this. If you go to Registerflies.com, read about the SaHM's who are losing their only source of income, or about the web designers who are losing all their clients' brand domain names.
Say what you will about RF's supposed shadiness over the years, but when ICANN puts their seal of approval on a registrar that should be damn good enough. ICANN had better make right on this. - solfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't find the authorization code anywhere on my registerfly page. I managed to get two of my domains transfered to enom but registerfly still has my most important one. Can anyone help me find an authorization code?
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and does it cite any of those claims? I hate RegisterFly and the (expletive) that ran it... but during stories like these on Wikipedia articles can flare up with inaccuracies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The http://www.AboutUs.org/RegisterFly.com wiki entry is filled with nothing but complaints. eNom has dropped them as a domain reseller. They'll likely be out of business before the end of the March.
- jigsawhc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I transfered my out of there after a few days of working with eNom. I never got the email so I had to go through some extra steps to prove I was the domain owner. RegisterFly owes me some money as well but I don't figure I'll ever get it.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Registerfly has always been a scam. I'm pretty sure they stole my credit card info and they are frauds.
- FinalDragoon06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just great. I'm looking to get out of their clutches anyway, but I don't hear great things about GoDaddy either. So Digg, what registrar should I go to?
- tealwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You can get your auth code off the web site. It's in the area where you manage your domains, select the domain you want, system properties (which is the top option) I believe, and at the bottom of that page. I'd be more specific but their site is unresponsive. Also be sure to unlock your domains as well so that they can be transfered. Good luck.
- ontic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I got some really crappy customer service there a couple of months ago, got an email from enom a number of days ago saying that they were dropping them as an affiliate, and transferred out one of my domains. Unfortunately there was still one left that apparently registerfly didn't register through enom and it's my main domain. I was going to transfer it, saw this story and high tailed it over there, but apparently it's demanding an Authorization Code to transfer. I'd love to transfer it, but halfway through my surfing the registerfly site stopped working. Can anyone provide any advice?
- gerkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe the liposuction came AFTER the escorts when he realized that he couldn't get anything but an escort unless he did something about it and he was running out of funds to misappropriate :D
- tealwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I managed to get my domains out. 2 we're with enom so setting it up so I could control those domains via enom was free. The later cost me $10 to transfer to enom and they added another year to it. I was able to unlock the domains and get a transfer password from registerfly's site without any hassle.
Enom's customer service seems overwhelmed by this right now. It took 3 days for enom to give me control of one of my registerfly domains that they were had registered. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4nice post........... NOT!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1superb
- mrhahn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"After his termination, Mr. Medina deleted email accounts, access to support tools, and access for our risk/billing department to issue refunds."
Surely the first thing you do when you 'terminate' an employee is remove their access to company systems... - ontic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The one puzzle: why get the liposuction if you're going to be buying escorts? Escorts are paid not to care, right? Of course, maybe he was reading the writing on the wall and realized he wouldn't be able to pay for sex with the company card anymore.
- ontic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks a lot tealwarrior. Their site came up again and I was able to get the information in the place you mentioned ("modify contact information") for anyone else tuning in. I've since applied for a transfer to enom. I'm very sick of dealing with second-rate registrars.
- gerkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You would think that yes ... if these guys can't even be on top of that stuff .... you don't want to be doing business with them :D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use namecheap. Extremely satisfied customer. Suprised no one ever recommends them when it comes to articles about domain registrars.
- gtull1, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1He spent the money on lipo? lolol That is freaking funny!! Look how bad that surgery is. Talk about sick! http://tickets.homelinux.com/
- ciotog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Folks, we can probably help Dave out here. If you can come up with a way either let the rest of us know (or me at least) and we'll take it from there.
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got my domain transferred to eNom without much trouble. However, Registerfly.com still has $21 of my money. I can't get ahold of their billing department either.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Too bad to see a company is going down because of a single persons mistake..."
This company isn't going down because of the actions of one person. RegisterFly.com is one of the worst companies that has ever existed on the internet, and they have a long standing history of stealing from their customers.
Check out http://www.aboutus.org/RegisterFly.com wiki entry to see the incredible amount of complaints they've received. - MDrake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want to have your domain transferred, you are right in referencing Enom. I had to transfer my account, /for free/, to Enom as Enom is the actual registrar which Registerfly uses. Enom allows you the authorization codes and the unlocking of your domain.
Once you submit a request to have your domain transferred, from enom to another register, it should take about 7 business days, as like some have said, they are overwhelmed atm. - MarkDilley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pull together problem website here at the page described here: www.digg.com/tech_news/RegisterFly_Impact_Registry_Wiki_Page
