- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18And I still prefer the bittorrent'ed versions.
- Woofcat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Bah, needs flash 8 and us linux folk don't get that. Basterd Macromedia.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9when will they learn that shows have a global audience?
If they did things like this 3 years ago piracy would be thin at best. - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is the second time in recent days that someone has said on digg that The IT Crowd was made by the BBC. We do have more broadcasters than just the BBC in the UK you know!
- kingsquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yoshi I tried that first as well but there is a second check after I click launch which says that only viewers from the usa are allowed to watch. Not sure why I get this and you do not..
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey, at least it's not .wmv (Adult Swim) or "ActiveX Mozilla Plugin" (AOL TV).
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm sad to say, "The IT Crowd" is not made by the BBC. Although...
http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/I/itcrowd/ - jmnormand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i tend to think encouraging networks to do things like this is a good idea even if they don't get it entirely right. i generally torrent a few ABC shows but now ill use their site for the time being. i don't mind supporting the few shows i actually like on TV when i have the opportunity and the networks aren't just being greedy about it.
- Flooq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm sure they're perfectly aware of their global audience but I doubt their international partners would pay as much for shows that some of their customers have already seen on the net.
- soft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If it's allowed to be shown globally then the production company loses revenue on their country-by-country licensing. For example, Channel 4 in the UK seem to be charging viewers on a per episode basis for catching up with Lost Season 1 on their website. If UK viewers got access to ABC's free system then Channel 4 would be a tad annoyed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Proxies are slow and often unreliable.
- Xeworlebi, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Nice, Works here in Belgium on my Mac with FireFox with the proxies given on the site. (192.104.67.250 port:8080)
For FireFox on Mac the proxies are here: Preferences: General: Connection: Connection Settings - maverick1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I travel all over and geographical IP is a pain. There is no excuse for this stuff anymore.
Rather than go through a proxy, Someone needs to compile an app that will allow you to bypass this crap altogether and choose your location. - soft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's because BBC Worldwide purchased the American rights to broadcast it on BBC America. BBC America often shows material produced by British production companies that were intended for other local broadcasters.
- patientx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am from Turkey, proxies work great but I really would be very happy if I could download flv files.Anybody got the full adresses yet ?
- heretik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You know whats easyer, Bit Torrent!
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2actualy, wmv works fine if you've installed the windows codecs. I can play wmv files fine in kaffeine and mplayer. There's probably an rpm or deb available for your distribution.
Yes, Adobe/Macromedia needs to release flash 8 for Linux, preferrably a version that doesn't have the A/V go out of sync. - Razman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4over kill that sites instructions.
All I did, was type into google "Free Proxy" and pages and pages of search returns containing free proxies, were returned.
I hit the first search result, and it listed tons of proxies by ip, when they were last tested and country of origin.
I chose a US proxy, quickly enterered it into my Internet Explorer/Firerox Connection settings, and hit http://ipchicken.com it didn't show my ip, I hit abc's site next and it worked no problems. watched a full episode of Desperate Housewives. - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It doesn't translated the poped-up window, so.. http://tinyurl.com/fk6ej
Thought it claims "Episode's are currently unavalible" though (Thought I don't have Flash v8 installed, might be why)
- Ben - snugsoho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Out of curiosity for i give this a try, is there anything worth watching on ABC?
- knotty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did anybody actually find the IT Crowd funny ?
- bouche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3this proxy thing worked fine for me.
- PhireN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You only need to use the proxy to load up the webpage and the flash. The actual streaming uses the proxy settings from IE, which isn't checked for location so the proxy can be somewhere closer, possible on you own computer.
- laurentlasalle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1CHANGE YOUR TIME ZONE FOR AN AMERICAN CITY!!! I can't beleive I haven't tried it before... It WORKS!
- witooo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really cool! ABC broadcasting TV shows. Lets hope this sets an example for others. If only I could get through my dads three firewalls :(
- Initram5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hobbeswidget, THX!
- monkeyman23, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Im sick of this stuff. I live in Puerto Rico, and when something is free we're classified as "outsiders" but when $$MONEY$$ is involved, whe are a United States Territory again...
- maverick1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think I should also point out something very important. ONLY USE THE PROXY TO VIEW STREAMS. and then disable it. I could set up a proxy and just sit back while people use it and write down all their passwords and logins. I encourage you to read this URL.
http://theproxyconnection.com/openproxy.html - wakaseoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, they might sell exclusive rights to other channels in different countries (Channel 4 in the UK, M6 in France, etc), thus not being able to broadcast there themselves.
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That may be part of it, but doesn't explain why they won't even let us PAY for shows that have no ads, like on iTunes.
- p00nlog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SImple solution: Install win32 firefox under wine, go to some site with flash 8, let it install, and "enjoy" all the flash 8 sites you've been missing out on. Obviously far from ideal, but a lot better than going without or dual booting to view some stupid flash apps. Most flash 8 applets (including the abc video player) are quite usable, albeit somewhat clunky and a tad on the slow side. Theoretically, using the mozplugger package, you could even have an external program (in this case firefox run through wine) open flash 8 files when you encounter them in your native linux browser.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This will be good for the Cartoon Network streaming as well...
- GirSaysDoom13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey guys, i'm on a mac and safari/firefox, and went to the link that gives me a download link for "Charon", but there doesn't seem to be a mac version. any way I could get around this?
Representing from Canada - daemonx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works with Napster as well....
- amnesiac84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't watch it either, i'm in Puerto Rico, please help i really want to see these shows
- miketowninc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes But everytime i always get Errror: Episodes are temporarily unavailable, Please try again at another time. what does that mean. can you do something about that? is it normal?
- deirdrec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, I'm trying to follow the steps that Hobbeswidget outlines for doing this on a Mac with Firefox, when I get to connection I have tried it on just the HTTP proxy as well as all the proxies, but the connection times out. Can someone help me sort this out? What am I doing wrong? I'm a bit novice at this all. Cheers!
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I guess that would work with UK Proxies so I can watch BBC Streaming shows like "The IT Crowd" too?? Cool!
- mhenr18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well i got into the original player with this url : http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdynamic.abc.go.com%2Fstreaming%2Fplayer%3Fmk%3D20162026%26aff%3D&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8
and i viewed the source and found the swf at: http://ll.static.abc.com/streaming/flash/myabc2Container.swf
its saying the episodes are unavaliable, but someone will find a work around - metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm totally going to use proxies when I move to Japan and have to face MLB.tv's Japanese blackout.
- miketowninc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have the same problem. Also with aol music. i tryed lots of ips but they didnt help. HELP PLEASE.
thankyou - miketowninc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DOESNT ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO?
- Spates, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0If you are looking for a fresh high speed web-proxy to access blocked sites at work and school or you just want to surf the web anonymously you should try http://www.browsejunk.com this web-proxy is brand new and great for streaming vidoes!!!
- nightspd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool..i love lost
- alex7xl, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0Use USA VPN service ( http://vpnprivacy.com/usa-vpn.html ) to access USA TV channels and other USA online services. It's a better way than others like proxy (slow and unstable) or something else.
- berard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0actually a proxy is needed only when initially connecting to abc's "live streams" page.
you can then deactivite the proxy and watch the shows ! - OAKWEB, on 02/03/2008, -0/+0Currently I live in Thailand and I was blocked as well, but switched to a OpenVPN solution. My provider ( http://www.strongvpn.com ) is a monthly fee but at least there are no bandwidth charges at it's 24 hour support. I got a IpodTouch and they were right there to help me set it up.
I don't mind paying for the service since I use my IpodTouch in airports, would not want to do that without a VPN provider.
Get off the proxies! I know my friend used one and it caused a nasty back end virus. - aVen8472, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi guys ,
Im not from the us as well and i got the problem that i cant receive either the cartoonnetwork stream nor the ABc shows like desperate housewifes ...
I searched for some US proxies but they all didnt work .On the cartoon network page it doesnt appear the screen "The site is only available for viewers in the us " anymore buttheres still a yellow icon "click on a show or episode to view" but it doesnt work.
On tv.com with a proxy server theres a screen ,saying initializing and loading but thats also gonna fail saying ,,the shows arent available yet ,please try another time...
My proxies are :http://www.aliveproxy.com/us-proxy-list/
http://proxy.speedtest.at/proxyOnlyTransparent.php?offset=0
I would be very grateful to you if anyone could help me out with that.I really appreciate that. PS:i got media player 10 and all the macromedia flash updates . -
