  • swankier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A time tested classic. I enjoy rereading this book each time I do. Whatmore, every time that I do read it, I learn new ways to apply it to my life.

    This summary is excellent and I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to review the lessons from the book without having to invest the time commitment that is reading it cover to cover.

    Should you see this book purely as a way to suck up, you might find benefit in knowing better how others might "suck up" to you; an increase ability to see through the *****. In a similar vain, should you see it as methods to manipulate others... you might benefit from understand when others are attempting to manipulate you. But should you look further and beyond that, you might find that the principal lesson of this tome of "do well to others and treat them with respect, and they will do the same for you", you might learn from the situations that are presented and have a happier personal life and more successful business interactions.

    Thank you for your comment. It's always a great experience for me to learn of others' impressons. Certainly, I will have to be careful of how I introduce this book to associates with a title as biting as "How to Win Friends and Influence People".
  • Rio517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you mean manipulate? Remember, manipulation completely depends on motivation.

    If you see others only as means to desired ends, then you are being manipulative. However, if you approach people and relationships as ends in themselves, then it doesn't matter what technique you use to approach them. Learning socials skills doesn't directly translate into learning to be manipulative. Social skills are a skill set like any other. It's how you put it to use that makes it manipulative or not.
