- parker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1eagle scouts unite!
these are instructional videos on the web, not a book. that makes it tech related enough for me. - Crispyness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You think that's good? Here's 101 ways to tie your laces, including the incredible 'Ian Knot' that's as secure as a double bow but comes undone when you pull hard!
http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/
Also include lace theading patterns and more! A real gem :) - emiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How is this story NOT tech related? Are you guys so narrow as to think that techonology means "electrical gadget". Go get a dictionary.
- eightysix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bondage lovers rejoice!
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This IS useful information, it IS tech, basic tech but tech. It, however, IS NOT news.
Its called the Bluejacket Manual issued to each and every member of the US Navy. It has far more and is far more detailed.
Who cares if you can take pictures of some knots you tied? - magneticpigeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks! digg
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent Post!
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nots are cool. Too bad I'm knot any good at tying them.

- SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty cool stuff.
- sogo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mmmmm like it
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heck no, not "REPORT++"! These kinds of articles are why I personally like Digg so much: you can never be sure what cool thing you might just happen to learn on any given day! I want to go tie knots now! Well, maybe I'll wait until tomorrow at work. :-)
- masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@mcnamron:
Why would you go to Digg expecting anything except for technology news when the site clearly states that it is FOR technology news? Anybody who comes to this site thinking to the otherwise shouldn't come, plain and simple. - wizpig64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like this just because of the videos. otherwise i wouldnt be interested in knots
- lunar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Knots are a lot of fun, especially the harder ones like a figure eight over a bite for example. I just completed the ropes and knots training for the fire academy, and learning a ton of rescue knots from the technical rescue team was very interesting. Even one of the firefighter candidates was a former Army drill sargent who trained soldiers to tie knots. He taught the tech rescue guys a few tricks.
good Digg. - CygnusXII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very Nice digg. Totally old school hacking at its best.
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@masterzora: I can see your point. I guess I just like having a stream of "cool things to look at" all day long, and this post (as well as digg itself) meets my criteria. You're right, it's not tech news, but I found it interesting. Ah, well...
- mcsweeney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There has not been enough Knot puns.
- eklitzke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Now all I need is a decent rafter and a chair." Nice.
- Dash-2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0us Boy Scouts need this not!
- masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, if this gets subjected to the Slashdot Effect:
http://www.iwillknot.com.nyud.net:8090/
Though it should still be reported off the site. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the cow hitch. Thanks
- chetchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now if only I could tie a tie...
- aetas-nex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0God damn, I just had a guy spend 30 hours making 3D animations of these knots, and now I find that it could have been sped up if he had these.
- icematrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amatrix... This story has 473 Diggs, tech people like it, I like it, I dugg it, it made the front page. Move on.
As for the Xbox/fanboy/blogging comments;
I made my comments because Blogs are most often unreliable news sources filled with opinion rather than substance. Most of the time they don't have the bandwidth to deal with the "Digg effect" or are just middle-ground on the way to the actual news story which should have been directly linked. As I'm sure you know, direct linking is also one of the main rules of Digg.
This story is good for Digg because;
It breaks up the monotony of the sea of video game and science stories. I love games and I love scientific discoveries, I also love to learn new skills. While it may not be technology related in your opinion, other people agree it contains knowledge which is useful to techies.
As for whether I am a n**b or not;
I started programming the TI-99-4A when I was 8 years old. I belonged to local bulletin board systems, wrote reports for the Boston computer society and was fortunate enough to beta test games for Infocom. I have worked as a network tech for an ISP, A Linux software developer, and am now a network manager. I also continue to write educational software.
While your original argument had some basis, your name-calling just serves to set people off and blow your credibility. - sjalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0to bad they don't show the monkey's fist, thats the one i need help with
- brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alright! Now we can be geeks AND boy scouts!
"...lemme fasten those loose cables with a combination slip knot - cow hitch." LOL - Quintessence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I will unite with you parker as an Eagle Scout as well.
- Historian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A digg for Baden Powell; nice.
- swaniexports, on 07/04/2008, -0/+0Nice knots ..you can get more knots tying help from http://www.marinews.com ..
Knot tying instructions, fishing knots to rope knots. Boat tests and reviews on boats from aluminum fishing boats to luxury cruisers. - Leech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0excellent..
it's camping tech.. and I think it's useful.. just for not-morons-at-all like people that comment without idea..
:)
thanks - Web_Weasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got a merit badge in Boy Scouts many years ago for knots and I've forgotten most of them.
You don't know how much you need to know this stuff until you're tying something from Home Depot to the top of your car. - McCrum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow! this could have just helped save my brother who faught in the civil war's life!!!

- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@icematrix
aight dude...no hard feelings..just sharing opinion yo...take it easy bro. - zenghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good site, but where's the noose? no noose?? digg+
- icematrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0>>Amitrix Said:
>>how is this story tech related?????
>>n00b!
First off, only immature jerks use the word "noob"... let alone the super-733t "n00b"
That said, this is a great link. Far better than a dumb blog-link to some fanboy's Xbox website. There are plenty of times in a techies life when he/she could benefit from this (Like when I blow off work and go fishing.)
If a story is cool to the community and several hundred people digg it, it makes the front page. This is the fundamental idea that makes Digg great, NOT this Nazi "Digg must be 100% science news and computer game articles" crap. - goltiss, on 09/29/2008, -1/+0How to Tie Useful Knots Video Guide
http://getmovs.com/video.php?vid=How_to_Tie_Useful ...
. - masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@amitrix:
Just shut up, please. You've got the right idea, but you have no idea how to present it.
@everyone else:
Even if we pretend this is tech for a moment, you can't pretend it is news in anyway, so it still doesn't belong on Digg, which calls itself a technology news website. - amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@icematrix
"First off, only immature jerks use the word "noob"... let alone the super-733t "n00b""
Hmm...so only immature jerks use the word "noob."
you really make me wonder whether you know the word 'noob' or not! Ya know, i could have copied and pasted the definition for your reference but that would just embarass you...so you better google it for yourself k noob??
What makes u think that some fanboy's Xbox website is dumb???
Just because you think the world is flat, doesnt mean that the world is actually flat dumbO??
And i guess, you should start from the basic...do you know the purpose of this website DIGG.COM????
The following definition is taken from DIGG.COM:
"What is digg?
Digg is a technology news website"
I aint sayin that the link had useless information...i just asked a very simple question...that "how is this tech related?"
If you think that bcoz of showing some non-tech things on a video makes it tech-related, then we can capture every freakin thing in the world and say that its tech news!!! For example, eating food with chop sticks is not a tech related news right?? but if we capture it on a video, then it becomes a tech news??????
Seems like you have hard time understanding arguments!!
I rest my case n**b...oops, i wonder if you'll be able to find the missing letters **...puzzle for you boy...
aight I rest my case!! ciao!! - seandfeeney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks now I'll know how to hang myself with the right knot next time my stupid posts are put on digg....!
PS. you would think that digg's comment spell checker would have digg as a "real" word. - amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0how is this story tech related?????
n00b! - masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I think it's high time somebody posted the article "How to Post Technology News", because people don't seem to know how...
