- NoFryZone, on 09/07/2008, -0/+12The jungle came alive and took him.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11Kinda like in Crysis. Energy Critical, Maximum Camouflage On.
- Dundasbro, on 09/07/2008, -2/+11Oh I get it the French have no military prowess, that's original.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8It's unrealistic for us to not invade other countries?
Are you sure? - pjr12345, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7Q: What do the Italian call a conscientious objector?
A: Someone who refuses to surrender. - TheJimid, on 09/07/2008, -2/+8I hope they didn't spend to much on the desert camo, its called khakis
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -2/+8A better way to disappear on a battlefield is to stop starting wars.
- Vich, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5For some reason the idea that we're constantly trying to improve military technology makes me feel insecure rather than more secure.
- bigbangbuddha, on 09/07/2008, -1/+6This will just spur on another age old technology: Napalm.
- sfour, on 09/07/2008, -2/+7The really interesting idea was at the end of this article. Stealth bombers can be passively detected as a shadow in the background radiation caused by the massive number of cell phones. That's a blow to the stealth tech industry.
- whiteknives, on 09/07/2008, -5/+10Oh come now. If anything, the French wrote the book on hiding, running away, etc.
- digitalpencil, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5"Developing new metal alloys to reduce rifle glint is just one facet of the effort to develop better camouflage"
couldn't you just paint them? - AMSRay, on 09/08/2008, -0/+4Does no one remember the French Foreign Legion? They were the original bad-ass special forces units, and still have a tough reputation.
- Perk, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4Don't forget Dead Silence... all the snipers wonder where I came from~
- dsmx, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4Send in the A team.
- KyleMistry, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Is it too much to hope for Grey Fox style invisibility exoskeletons?
Yes? How about Octocamo?
Still yes? Damn. - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Snipers use ghillie suits which are more effective than any of this stuff. They're not really good for moving around, and work best in prone position.
http://longrangeshooter.com/wp-content/uploads/200 ... - palehorse864, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4Hmm, good point. But what if someone brings the war to you?
- DeFex, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3OMG HAX!
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3So they've finally moved beyond "branch taped to helmet"?
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -2/+5You fight like WW2, the last time we were in a justified war.
- buckrogers1965, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3I love the other part of camo, the making fake millitary units that look and sound and appear on radar like real units. If you can disappear and give the enemy another target to attack that they think is you, then you win twice.
- mrinsanity, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3I clicked the comments specifically to check if anyone linked to that vid. extra Kudos for getting it first!
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -2/+4Well, since 200 years ago when France conquered most of Europe.
- pjr12345, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Interesting. At first I thought it was an article about the Italian Army.
- palehorse864, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2I think he meant it was unrealistic to assume that you can disappear on the battlefield just by not starting wars. We tried that in WW1 and WW2. Did our best to avoid it, but got drawn in anyway. We didn't start it, but we were certainly visible on the battlefield.
Your original post seems to imply that you can vanish from the battlefield by not beginning any wars. But naturally, when the person attacks you, you are forced to make your presence known. - adiyo011, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1"Oh, I'm gone..."
- NCSD, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1whats that have to do with camouflage?
- pjr12345, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1@rerevisionist: Patrick Henry would be proud of you, "Give me liberty, or give me tyranny... just let my yellow-a$$ live!"
- whisperedlie, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1multicam is awesome. paintball isn't the ultimate test in the effectiveness of camouflage, but in my amateur experiences it's pretty damned effective. obviously, however, it sucks in the snow and certain urban environments.
- S4MF1SHER, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1While it's years away from practical applications for the infantry or even special ops, I think adapting it to work for sniper teams, who should already be "invisible" would benefit from further help at not being seen.
- BurgerDST, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1I'm sure the British who were scrambling to get across the Channel at Dunkirk would have appreciated a bit more help holding the Germans back a little longer. As far as US military, they haven't always been perfect but continue to strive to minimize civilian death. The best way to minimize civilian casualties is to prevent wars in the first place. Peace.
- rerevisionist, on 09/07/2008, -5/+6GreyMalkin, I'm not French; the French were invaded by Germany and made a decision, in my view perfectly sensibly, not to have millions killed. The USA has some monuments somewhere to their battles, for example in the Philippines and and Vietnam, and other 'theatres' where they massacred mostly innocent civilians. Didn't they? Eh?
- slapthemonkey, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Defensive tactics at their best
- greensign, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2"...his team has been successful in partially insulating tanks so that observers with night vision see the shape of a car."
- je12u, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2Reply much?
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1The sniper is the green blob in the middle.
Here's another cool picture, it's easy to spot the sniper but it's almost like he isn't all there.
http://www.ghillie-suits.org/images/ghillie-suits- ... - dacheetah, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Is there even a sniper in that picture?
(I guess that kind of is the point...) - socme, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1wow - so it's "battledress uniforms" now. I think I liked fatigues better.
- ElectroStep, on 09/07/2008, -1/+1Snaaaaaaaaaaakkkkkeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- palehorse864, on 09/07/2008, -1/+1I wish they would have covered multicam. That stuff is cool.
- zephyear, on 09/07/2008, -1/+1snake?
- gost3, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0
- BurgerDST, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1I think special forces will be taking down those mobile phone transmitters. There is a reason for a land line.
- kd1s, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1The part about stealth aircraft being visible in areas of intense mobile phone signals is very interesting. Talk about an unintended consequence huh?
- MadHarvey, on 09/07/2008, -2/+2It is interesting what youtube chose to recommend to me after watching that video... Thanks youtube!
-Pie - enantiodromia, on 09/07/2008, -9/+8yes, you are a boring troll, we get it already. ooh you're so edgy. you bring something fresh to the web *yawn* you should be on *yawn* tv...
