- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty neat =)
- lunarship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice.
The link to the 2002 April Fool "PigeonRank" from that page is worth looking at as well - certainly made me smile! - Claymore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When working on sites I get this question a lot from the owners... excellent reference thanks!
- CapTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is something that should be sent to every librarian in the world and used with all junior high and high school students.
- mathie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reading and following links from that article lead me to this useful page about geographical data lookups (zipcodes): http://www.melissadata.com/Lookups/index.htm
- rajid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is all rather old information and pretty obvious stuff. What would be more interesting would be the further information about how Google guesses what you may have meant (in the case of mistyping) and also more detailed information about their page ranking algorithm. For example, if you happen to have most of the keywords in your web page title, does that get you higher in the ranking? Probably so.
- pacoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Also add sound key for a search, is Google ready for it?
If not contact me ... yay - pacoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Explanation is only 'tip of the iceberg' about all algorithms used. Few items are left out, i agree. In the 'what you meant' part, I would guess they use some kind of Soundex() function to bring words that closely match initial spelling, which is by converting characters to their equivalent numbers on the ASCII convention.
I am still yet to see a search algorithm that takes a key in the form of a graph, picture or diagram, and bring sites with references to that key.
Also, how is the described 'spider' process work? How they know which sites have new content put in and which ones are less dynamic. How is a search spread out among multiple computers, is that by word or by topic etc, etc.
If anyone can add to that .... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0senile
