Up, Up, Down, Down, B, A, Start - Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35allow the adult flagged videos to actually have adult content in them. Im not saying porn or anything, but a pair of ***** isnt going to hurt
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25Better video quality, less censorship. Solved.

~Typical YouTube Commenter - TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Gee, Thanks Hungarian, I never would have guessed without your glorious super brain.
- ACalcutt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10they already have one of those... http://pornotube.com
- chris4404, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They don't host though, its just a video link dump.
- cr4ft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It never ceases to amaze me how so many people (such as the author of this article) know the tricks of the trade to beating something so vast (such as YouTube) but instead of doing it themselves, decide to write about it.
- cjohara, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Porn?
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+51. Better video quality.
2. Maintain good speeds.
3. Unintrusive ads / layout.
4. Relaxed copyright policy. :-p
Of course, both 1 + 2 together and the popularity from 4 makes it pretty hard to muster a bandwidth competitive to Google's. - FTLJohnson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I suppose this falls under layout, but youtubes comments section is TERRIBLE. The threading makes zero sense unless you are in "view all comments" mode.
Even then, there is no functionality to edit your comments... and no way to delete your own comments even... - undetected, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That's cause there's an ocean of difference between knowing the tweaks needed by an existing site to make it better, and getting funding, hiring people, developing the product, and building the brand, and a lot of other intangibles needed to actually beat the current market leader.
- amoore260, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Google is losing at voip. Skype built a better mouse trap. yes, google can be betten......
- majinosity, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7some of the best videos from YouTube are being pulled because of copyright "violations" ... these producers are moving elsewhere, most notably DailyMotion.com
- donnyburnside, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Its been done. For a looong time.
- brwright, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3stage6.com (from divx) is my choice, great amount of quality vids
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you mean people uploading videos and then voting on the best ones
might be an interesting site - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think those two previous comments are right, the only way to steal some traffic from youtube is to have either porn (cough, youporn.com, cough) or pirated content. Someone will figure out a way of hosting videos in a P2P manner than doesn't incriminate the site and it'll be filled with every video you could ever want to see.
Other than that, just give up already. This issue's been MySpaced, meaning: the size of their network is directly proportional to the incentive you have for using the site. Searching elsewhere means you probably wont find what you want. No video quality, licensed content or fancy feature will ever change that. - ThE0eNiGmA, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Written like a true YouTuber... horribly.
- br0ck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The new ads that appear on top of the video for 15 seconds do look very annoying. http://media.guardian.co.uk/advertising/story/0,,2153415,00.html
- Leo21k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thats easy. Just allow bootlegged tv shows and anime until you get sued. Thats how Youtube became so popular.
- lcmatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2VideoBay.
- dimplemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like MetaCafe a lot. Their interface, videos, overall look and feel.
- Beautyon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Stop banning Videocompiler
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2www.pornotube.com for example.
- themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Most of the people on Youtube are idiots and attention whores. People go there begging for attention and rabble on about nonsense in return and people actually go for it.
- Piedramente, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You don't. Youtube is going to dominate just as google has for quite some time.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That's exactly what I was going to say. It's one thing to remove entire episodes of anime, that's understandable. But everything from AMVs to most-definitely-fair-use-videos like the Naruto Abridged series (which consists of random, edited clips of the Naruto anime redubbed in a parody fashion) have been removed recently, and they continue to remove even more ridiculous things.
If the only thing I can find on YouTube is stupid videos of kids ranting, emo crap, and skateboarding dogs, I likely won't visit YouTube, anymore. - brusty, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Better Audio & Video Quality.
- donnyburnside, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3http://redtube.com is better
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Stage6 is how
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol a pair of ***** is not porn, people screwing or diddling themselves, thats porn
- Vektuz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its easy to beat youtube.
Step 1: Wait for youtube/google to start embedding adverts in their movies (DONE!)
Step 2: Run a site exactly like youtube that doesn't embed adverts in their movies (DONE!)
Step 3: All of youtube's now ex-users come to your site. - swoopdog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1uh what?
- amoore260, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They did, its call airbags and its an upgrade to make it better!!!!
- MrSteamTank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Great soft-core pornography too. Personally I prefer www.flurl.com
Not only is their tons of videos their is also tons of the most hardcore porn you could imagine. It's a win win! - Majin_Raditz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How do you beat youtube? I think the Pirate Bay will answer that one.
- RobertBogley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I mean the ads they are bringing in.. given the choice between youtube and adverts or other site no adverts - there's no choice.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yes, google be betten a lot at those casinos......
- Duncan3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21. Wait for YouTube to add ads.
2. They do it!
3. Profit! - funkytaco, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Time will tell, but I bet whoever beats YouTube will be serving HD quality files on Internet2.
- ArsenicTea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Then it would just be another break.com
- UnknownCzar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1that would save youtube for me. still have no clue why they banned him..
- amoore260, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The story touches on some good points but misses the big picture. The next YouTube will be more community driven.some of these points were listed in the story, Let me explain how.
Policing copyright laws are going to be a deal breaker for any video site. But allowing the community report copyright infringement with a button on each video would save the site a lot of league trouble. When the button is clicked the video would be put into a que where it could be reviewed by the sites staff and then taken down if it violates copyright. Members of the community that report numerous copyright violations that are accurate should be paid for their time and effort too. IP tracing should be used verify users are not reporting them selfs and making a paycheck.
A smother comment system, similar to diigs should be used too.
Revenue sharing with all users (this is a no brainer)
Users keep all the rights to there videos
A Creative Commons section with download.
An educational section similar to iTunes University for educational use that can be password protected.
A pay service with options without the watermarking (larger file sizes too) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1if you build it, they will come
- louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Google isn't exactly known for their annoying ads. I'm not worried about them.
