- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You Tube has been pretty solid--easily searchable and not too many glitches with the playback (even on a Mac). It's everything Googe video should have been.
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah I know what the article is about, and the way they got successful is by letting people post whatever they wanted regardless of whether it is legal or not. How much VC money they got and what I would do if I got that money is irrelevant.
- timtop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6don't be so quick to forget that Youtube is very much like digg. It is built on the backs of the community, entirely. From content to PR (you wont see ads for youtube). That alone makes it a pretty cool idea because its of the same genre as the site we are using.
granted that it has a sort of creepy myspace feel when 16 year old girls are shaking their posteriors like pole dancers, it has also revolutionized video sharing by making it simple and easy for the average non-technical person to post and share. Now other startups or students or whatever type people can place video's for presentation of projects, concepts or other things so easily and for free. This is helping to push the envelope in areas like private film making as well. Its really a great idea and just as revolutionary as something like digg, except instead of for news, its for video-based media.
diggworthy - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As long as YouTube doesnt think the reason we go there is to watch some stupid teens jump around in front of a webcam, then they will continue to be "hot". When it starts to turn into YouTube/MySpace, it will be finished.
- jeromeerome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The thing I don't like about YouTube is how they overcompress all their videos until they look like a bad RealPlayer file. Google Video is not much better either. YouTube does offer nice community interaction features but like others posted above it has a tendency to be overwhelming like MySpace has become. Most people just want a simple way to share videos with friends and family and don't really care much about the rest of the world watching it. There are better options for that.
There is a new video sharing company on the web called VideoBubble. They offer a simple upload and share solution that is great if you don't need all the community interaction on YouTube. They also have much higher quality videos. If you have Flash 8 installed you can see the difference here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6U9PUV8DCk
And the VideoBubble link in their notes here. http://tinyurl.com/z8sv7 - tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"running up big credit card debts as they tooled around a garage trying to develop an easy way for people to share homemade videos on the web."
heh then along came FLASH 8 - neod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This is an article about from a business prespective, not the consumer side. If you had started that site and were racking in millions in VC you wouldn't be trashing it like this at all, would you?
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Well, this isn't necessarily bad-per se, if you share copyrighted works when you have permission to do so it is fine legally."
No *****. That's not what I'm talking about. There is tons of copyrighted material on there they we all know has no right to be there.
"This may come as a complete surprise to you but not everybody who creates original content wants to get paid. Granted a certain percentage does, but then again a certain percentage doesn't. If you do want it so badly though, either negotiate it with youtube, or don't upload there."
Not a surprise to me at all. However, if someone uses someone elses material commercially as in TO MAKE MONEY I feel they have an obligation to compensate the originator of the content whether that content was made with the intent to make money or not. The fact is the YouTube service isn't anything without user generated content, and it's just disrespectful to their own users to make claims that they can reuse their content in any way and not owe them any compensation. - kokobaroko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5YouTube is BROKE comercially, they dont make any money, just burn investors cash.
- jo42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder what their monthly bandwidth bills are...and if they can afford to keep it all going...
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But at the same time with sites like this people can find an audience.
- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One thing I hate about youtube and it's ilk, afaik you can't save the videos and show them to others.
- Travelsonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Yeah the way they got to be a hot property is by allowing people to share and post copyrighted material. The same way that Napster did with music. "
Well, this isn't nessecarily bad-per se, if you share copyrighted works when you have permission to do so it is fine legally.
" If you upload your original content you are agreeing to let them do anything with it commercially and they never have to pay you for it. "
This may come as a complete surprise to you but not everybody who creates original content wants to get paid. Granted a certain percentage does, but then again a certain percentage doesn't. If you do want it so badly though, either negotiate it with youtube, or don't upload there. - microdude431, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2thank you mr investor

- dadioben6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd recommend checking out MyMovieNetwork and signing up to be a member. Go to http://www.mymovienetwork.com to sign up. Site is geared toward quality material in the film industry. Post your videos and check out the articles. Any comments on the site and the unique features would be greatly appreciated.
- muyuu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nope. Youtube's flash is at least flash-7 compatible. They know better than letting out all linux users by going flash-8.
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Good read. dugg.
- crazyjeremy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0timtop, Youtube HAS released ads. I saw it on talk soup like show "THE SOUP" a few nights ago.

Youtube is about as ghetto as it gets. They're right down there with MySpace. Has anyone ever looked at their user agreement? If you upload your original content you are agreeing to let them do anything with it commercially and they never have to pay you for it. ***** that *****.
