I heard about this site before, but this was the first time I saw it.
Brilliant Idea! - debtman7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still don't know how he did it. I mean, let's face it, if you ignore the fact that it actually worked, this is a really stupid idea. It's a terrible way to advertise, because it's almost impossible for anyone to make out your tiny ad. Sure, you might get some traffic from people who heard about the site and clicked a random spot, but really, I don't think anyone can actually believe this is a good way to advertise. Yet this kid, somehow, manage to get thousands of people to buy useless ads and he made a lot of money.
How in the world did he do that?
My only guess is that a bunch of people went with it because it was fun and it was the internet phenomenon of the moment, so by being on the site they might get at least a little word of mouth. Most people would not have tried it, even if they had this idea. Like an earlier poster said - it just doesn't make much sense from a advertising point of view. Obviously there is more to it that ad real estate. Amazing! (I still hate him though 8)

And then, there's this one, which I found by some randomly clicking. It's in Dutch! I have no idea what's it's for, but I'm willing to give them a little boost.

I haven't yet figured out what gets stories to the front page. A couple of days ago I submitted one that's news that I can't find anywhere else on Digg, and it went over like a rock. Here's one that supposedly everyone already knew about, and it goes to the front page in an hour. I don't get it.
