- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Yeah I got an account half a year ago and I haven't used it once. Gmail is much faster and simplistic.
- phileplanet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I just signed in from a .ca e-mail and it automatically gave me a choice for trying the new beta; I didn't do anything else.
It's pretty slow if anyone wants to know. - metalrock76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15So.. many.. ads..
I'll stick with gmail. - metalrock76, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Awesome.. big ads. http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/932/yahoomailbetaads9xx.jpg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yea worked here .. doesn't beat gmail for me
- BeachSide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Same here I have nothing but good things to say about Gmail.
It has gone down a couple of times, about 3 times in the 1 year I've been using it, but it hasn't been a big deal as it has come back up in a very reasonable amount of time.
Sorry but you cannot beat an email service that offers 2.5 gigs of space with a slick UI not to mention the pop3 support... all for free!!!
Nope, you just can't beat that with a bigass stick ;) - tomakun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Grrr. The beta doesn't work in Opera.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The Yahoo Mail Beta also has a problem with not loading mail sometimes. Just sitting and looking at you. I reiterat e what that guy above me said
Google FTW - ElGuano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Went to the UK and got it immediately! Totally worth a digg.
It's pretty fast, and the drag/drop plus right-click contextual menus are a great feature.
I think this just means the real beta will be out worldwide tonight or tomorrow morming. - Room101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Worked for me too. I've been itching to get in to the Beta so I could compare it to Live Mail. Like others have said, it's surprisingly slow.
- MySchizoBuddy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8those ads are the biggest i have ever seen
- twstokes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It worked for me. I went to the UK for a second - and came back. It is extremely slow when scrolling through messages. The look reminds me of an online Outlook Express with RSS and ads to the right.
- seanm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Doesn't seem to work for me.
- steveng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Very fancy, but cluttered, all things made by Yahoo are. I'll stick to mail.app.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13are you kidding me? where do you live? gmail is the most reliable email service i have ever used. it hasn't failed me once (and i've been using it since it was unveiled).
best. email. ever. - twitndiggfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I was invited to use it by yahoo, so yeah, SLOW!!
- ionut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To change your content preference, log in to Yahoo Mail, click Options, select Account information from the left panel and then edit Member Information, General Preferences, Preferred Content. Select, for example, Yahoo UK, click Finished. When you go to Yahoo Mail, you'll see a page that says "It's the New Yahoo! Mail Beta... and you're invited." Click on "Try Beta Now".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Did anyone try to compose a new mail and click the subject button? Try it out :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You don't even need a zip code if u follow the instructions posted by ionut:
To change your content preference, log in to Yahoo Mail, click Options, select Account information from the left panel and then edit Member Information, General Preferences, Preferred Content. Select, for example, Yahoo UK, click Finished. When you go to Yahoo Mail, you'll see a page that says "It's the New Yahoo! Mail Beta... and you're invited." Click on "Try Beta Now". - Tyler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I changed mine back to US and didnt lose the beta.
- bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Gmail is incredible, I've personally seen it down. It's only fault is when I send a mail out, thunderbird for some reason receives it in it's inbox, but I think that's because I have a setting wrong or something.
Besides, Yahoo sucks, always has, always will. - floorpie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Slow loading (though it's beta, of course). It's a different approach than gmail (lean and mean), but I can see how most people will be more comfortable with this. Actually, I really like the idea of having tabbed panes, cuz I often switch between messages while composing (i.e. to dig up info). They need to have a "power user" mode so I can do everything by keyboard though. And if they can make it fast, and responsive, I think they'll have a hit on their hands.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It seems fast to me.
- ejreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yea it really does suck, but neat trick nonetheless.
I'll be happily sticking with gmail. - pierre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4worked for me, but man was that a disapoinment. I'll stick with gmail.
- filovirus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6RAAAAMONE, bring mail.yahoo.com beta some speeeed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3looks nice but i still prefer the simplistic look of the regular yahoo template.
- Tyler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I used the Google Germany content (it isn't too hard to understand it) and it worked.
The beta is slow however it has some cool features. - harley999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can also use this url: http://uk.whatsnew.mail.yahoo.com/ to switch from a different email address to a new beta email address.
- bebopredux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not that impressed with Yahoo Mail Beta. Looks cluttered and truthfully, Gmail blows it away. In fact, Gmail has become my new "Outlook" now. The one MS product I loved on my PC was Outlook. Thought I could never live without it. Now I use OSX and Mail which is OK but, Gmail, with the calendar is all I need. To have Gmail call my cell phone to remind me is just TOO cool.
With regards to Gmail being down at times. I have noticed this too. Perhaps 2 - 3 times a week. Doesn't make me want to switch though.
Yahoo and MS will be playing catch-up for years with Gmail. - whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2AHAHA Who still uses WINDOWS 98?!?!!? Time to upgrade!
- dazzed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Until Google gives me the options of folders and not lame "labels" yahoo is way better.
I don't want every single email listed in my inbox, I want folders! - happycat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My ISP's email is handled through yahoo and today I was just offered to try the beta. I was surprised to see no ads on my screen, then I realized I am paying my ISP so I would expect not to see them. Visually, I am a somewhat disappointed...yahoo beta mail resembles outlook express a bit too closely. Once again, Gmail to the rescue!
- jonny5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yahoo mail sucks ass
- RADicalSatDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They don't even let Opera users in c'mon... WTF! Its stunts like these that makes companies lose their user bases.
It's slow as hell in IE but pretty fast in SeaMonkey. - cinder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4But you are more limited when you use folders with e-mail; Gmail's labels provide much more flexibility (such as applying more than one label to a message).
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Take it from someone who's used the beta for months......it's not worth the effort. It's slow and clunky and has often caused Firefox to freeze on my computer.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Slow loading (though it's beta, of course)."
gMail is still in beta. It isn't slow. - timmins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5hahaha, yahoo mail beta stinks on ice.
- thatkidrich44, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3got it to work..UI is cool.. but too slow.
- zewise1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I, for one, like it. If only they could add forwarding like my gmail...
- augustwest30, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the tip. I've been trying to get on the Beta for a while and this trick worked. I've been using Yahoo! mail since it first came out and I really love the new interface. The regular Yahoo! mail interface isn't really any faster.
- jugaaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah its works fine. thanks
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks very eye candy...heh....
- kruykaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Works fine for me WINXP + FF with adblock
- diargasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no comparison with gmail. thanks for the tip though.
- arjunprabhu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2worked for me!. Thumbs up!. Dugg.
- williamkusumo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just posted more screenshots here for those who are interested: http://simplyweb.blogspot.com/2006/02/yahoo-mail-beta.html
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You have to change it away from your current setting (temporarily). Once you get invited you can change it back.
- whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Love it! This interface is pretty sweet, a lot more like outlook or thunderbird.
I am real irritated though that google fux0red my gmail account. I can't login and when I try and reset the password google claims the account doesnt exist. If I try and recreate it, nada. -
