- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41"“If serch engines were never invented or they ceased to exist tomorrow, how would you build traffic to your website in a searchless world?”
I'd build a search engine and retire a multi-gazillionaire a year later. - frant1c, on 10/12/2007, -7/+44"I don’t have any specific stats on podcasting, but just ask yourself, “Do I or anybody I know listen to podcasts?” I’m betting the answer is, “Yes!”"
Actually, the answer is "No!" - Propapanda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Has anyone else noticed that getting traffic and ad revenue by talking about how to get traffic and ad revenue is becoming the biggest scam on the Internet today?
- mickeyknoxxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Paint the roof of you're car with your domain name and go on a high speed chase through Los Angelas. If you last long enough on the road without getting caught, you may receieve national coverage. The penalty for illuding the LAPD is a $10,000 fine or up to a year in jail. Hey, take one for the team.
- Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I've listened to one podcast and I've been using the WWW for over 10 years. Maybe I'm too old, but there was a time we called them what they are, pre-recorded "live" mp3s. They went out of style with Internet radio and made a resurgence when bloggers started doing them on a regular basis and called their diaries/opinions combined with these pre-recorded mp3's and DHMTL websites (now named AJAX) "Web 2.0".
Granted, the technology *has* changed, but it's still interesting to see people talk fervently about something that, I would imagine, the rest of us have known of for quite some time and choose not to partake in. I still don't understand why these stories about making money on the Internet, created by someone trying to make money on the Internet, get so much airtime (diggtime) on Digg. Too much of the community is SEO-driven, I guess. - xinit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Let me point you to an article I wrote on my blog at blogging-about-getting-traffic-and-ad-revunue.blogspot.com
- nearlygod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How about writing your domain name on dollar bills, ala wheresgeorge.com?
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Easy as pie! Just post it in a comment to digg - http://www.herecomesthescience.com
/I'm soo going to get my ass buried - jebudas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"9. Email List Rentals. This is a huge driver of traffic in the B2B and direct marketing worlds. If you can get the right cross section of traffic in a list, it’s very profitable. Just make sure the provider of the list is in compliance with all the laws regarding this activity."
Yukk, sounds like SPAM to me. - finista, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That's super! You'd get highly targeted public - only those who have money that is.
- nearlygod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@finista
Personally, that's my favorite demographic. - clubmasta2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Step 1 - have a website that doesnt suck balls and is easy to find what you need and get out of
If you build it they will come - jcs_goog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought this would be a lame article, but the breadth of the coverage is pretty good and worth a digg. I think a few of the statements are lame, but overall not a bad article.
- JeremyL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4WIth the last one, the straking, make sure to hire the fattest man you know. Maybe then you'll get some attention as the skinny guys doing it has been done before.
- ForlornHope, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"“If serch engines were never invented or they ceased to exist tomorrow, how would you build traffic to your website in a searchless world?”"
First, I'd wonder why 'search' was suddenly being spelled 'serch'. Fiat by the language police?
Then I would start a site that hosted pointless counterfactuals, and use black magic to somehow get it to the frontpage of digg. Speaking of... - Loudtyper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tv is cheaper - and the bulk of money for adverstising is still spent OFFLINE>
now this is where organic SEO plays a role - get your site ranked for xyz keyword, you are all of a sudden getting amazing return on just time. - cweave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would have to agree with the majority of commentors, I don't really know that many people who listen to podcasts. I have tried to do it myself, but it just didn't stick with me. At some point I lost interest.
- firekrakcer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Read Tip 8.
- Scarblac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Duh. I would make a website where people could search for other pages. People would flock to it!
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yah, pod casts are lame... I can get 3-4x the information in half the time by reading it.
That being said, the best way to get traffic to your site without search engines is submit a link to digg ;P - fuzzmello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3TV buys?
- popstalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Who knew it was so cheap to advertise on TV... That's the only "new" thing I really got from the article.
- Stecchino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I liked the article. It's not an invaluable resourcse of in-depth how-to but a good run-down of places to start.
- unsolicited, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Barter?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barter - DJCult, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice domain name.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1What a great site. Yes - targeted traffic really is the key to success. Finding traffic in many ways is easy.
http://gerrywalter.com - mercuryswitch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Refreshing your page over and over generates traffic...
- zanetti2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I believe very very few people listen to Pod casts. And even fewer listen with regularly.
- ziibook, on 06/29/2009, -0/+0Something about targeted traffic http://www.ziibook.com/targeted-website-traffic
- 1love2see, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Harvesting social media as a real way to generate traffic is really hard, if any of you have ever tried it for your own site...
- mikepanic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*yawn* and no digg. There is nothing in that article that shouldn't be common sense to anyone who knows a little about marketing 101.
There isn't even a mention about traditional networking. How about business cards, stickers, car license plate frames, direct mailing. Lets also not forget about running contests. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The headline says "targeted traffic" but the summary just says traffic. I sense a bait and switch. Especially since submitting to general social sites isn't targeted.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3RTFA: "8. Social Media [...] or seeing your content promoted on Digg, Netscape, and Reddit…"
firekrakcer beat me. - TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1if there were no search engines i would do it the old fashioned way by word of mouth.
hey, have you seen this guy's site? he makes really cool animated videos for commercials and short films. he's also available for hire and desperately needs work. check it out: www.monolithcreative.com - elsayed, on 01/07/2009, -0/+0I'm Doing some of this methods and I generate some good traffic by end of the month, and yes these helped me with search engine indirectly ......

http://www.elsempire.com/first/index.htm - TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i think it's a little more expensive than that. have you actually seen rate cards for air time? we're talking thousands of dollars for maybe a months worth of ads where your ad plays once or twice a day for 30 days. the rates also increase during certain prime times. good luck with your media buys, though, since you seem to think they're so cheap. also, if you're looking for an actual customized commercial give me a call, i do animation and video commercials: monolithcreative.com

- crankycookie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Am I the only person that regularly listens to NPR podcasts?
- simonowens, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The guy pretty much admits in the article that he pays for links. Considering there's nothing new or innovative offered in this article, can we safely assume that this article only made it onto the front page because the guy paid digg users to to digg it? If I were the site moderators, I would investigate this and consider deleting the accounts of the first 30 or so digg users who dugg this, since they were probably paid to digg it. C'mon the guy says outright in his article that he does it.
- pirategaspard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Yep, Everything in this article is pretty basic.
