- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56;) That's a jpeg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+49You're that idiot in ALL of my classes that proves her knowledge of the subject matter by asking the prof. a question and then answering it herself, AREN'T YOU?!?!
- bsoric, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31Wow, I've been using the Block User button so many times in the past few days.
- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24You can do this from the command line, I used to have a forum signature of a cute blonde posing half-dressed with a SNES and a copy of Legend of Zelda. The text above it read 'drag me onto winamp', and the theme song from that game would play when you did so.
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18A 5MB GIF with only 2 animation frames might be a bit suspicious?
- Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I think I might notice that the image took 5 minutes to load, but very interesting nonetheless. Reminds me of the decss source code hidden in a GIF image. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/DeCSS/Gallery/Stego/dvd_scdc_woof.jpg
- mcflynnthm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16This is extremely silly, mostly useless, and I absolutely love it.
... I need to get out more. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Thanks for the info.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15The future of file trading? Mask it behind a pic.....the RIAA won't see it coming :D
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Multi-megabyte gifs kinda miss the point.
- Etheo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I remember seeing something similiar before.
gif link here: http://waxy.org/random/images/weblog/dr_mario_winamp.gif
and explanation here: http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/18324
I didn't wait for the gif to load because it was taking way too long... and not new to me anyways. - PlaidPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11No, I think the point is that they WILL see it.
- jaxxstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11$20 for a book that tells you how to download FF!?
Robbing bastard! - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Edit: Pirates, start doing this!
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10You used a complicated word without adding much to the discussion - it usually irritates people.
- Noelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I actually laughed when I read what he said and that you guys AND I have spent this time un-digging him and commenting on it.
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/bluee/
But O'Reilly told me NOT to click on the blue E! - Refusedb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yeah it was called the wmf exploit if you remember...
not this exact way, but you know getting a virus via image. - luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This would be a great way to distribute a virus. I'm not sure exactly how, but I smell potential.
- csyberblue, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11What the hell are you talking about zamagag? Steganography is hidding information inside of other information, in this case having an mp3 inside of picture. I thought this was a cool example of that, I don't know why I was modded down or why you are arguing with me on this!
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was wondering, "Why does this website seem familiar?" It's the guy who made xstep. I used to make my DDR stepfiles with that back, like, freshman year. This guy makes cool stuff.
- RBasil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4In DOS: copy picture.gif /b + music.mp3 /b combined.gif
- geekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.programurl.com/grl-realhidden.htm will do the same job.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Mirror : http://www.duggmirror.com/technology/How_To:_Hide_MP3s_Inside_GIF_Images/
And what this is pretty much based on, if anyone cares : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography
- Ben
{Note, the server side script will almost certainly not work, since Duggmirror won't have mirrored the scripts needed to run it} - kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Doesn't load?
- Xentrion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've got an idea! Why don't podcasters or Indie music creators put their music inside of the Album Art?
I just merged Radio Leo's album art and the podcast together :) - Datrio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Doesn't work under Opera 9, anyone has the same problem? The image just doesn't load...
- slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10We need a program that can do both at once. Flash will be a thing of the past!
:O - nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4While I think this technology is pointless, why does everyone have to blame everything not forthcoming on pedophiles. Seriously, I'm sure pedophiles aren't looking for new ways to hide mp3 files. Either way, you probably sleep easier at night with your comment
- munkt0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3there's some odd anti-leeching protection going on. go back to the site root and then find the mp3gif link, it works when you click through from there.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>The DOS command copy picture.gif /b + music.mp3 /b combined.gif works almost as well (thanks, Magic Hat Detective), although it doesn't get the GIF header information quite right.
- jimkcouk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2back in 2000 maybe earlier there was a program doing the rounds call camouflage that combined the mp3 with a a image for you. The software was hosted on an ntlworld account can't seem to find it now.
- IncognitoCraven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's not steganography, it's using documented parts of the file format (in a slightly unorthodox format), same with the JPEG DeCSS example above. Steg requires that the content be not-obvious hidden, not simply "not seen in normal use" hidden; to that end, major bloat of a generally small file format also thwarts that.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Sucks that the page doesn't load in Fire Fox but this is really cool.
- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it did nothing on quicktime/itunes, just curious though, I tried it myself but since I couldn't even get the original to play I gave up. What would happend if you used embed instead of img, would it play on a windows browser?
- opless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only problem with concatenating $random_file with a gif/jpg/etc, is that it's not a valid gif/jpg/etc.
This story is embedding the mp3 into the file format itself, thus giving a completely valid file, not one with random garbage on the end. Concatenating zip archives to the end of an exe has been about since umm ... Dos 3.3? perhaps earlier :o) - dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1forget password protected rar files. i just found another way to hide my porn!
- xbasilx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok, so where's the app to merge the mp3 & gif?
- TimRogers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow! And to think, I didn't know it was possible!
- digitalblood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"demon face" in one of Aphex Twin's tracks, #2 is all most the same thing
the face was supposed to be viewable with a spectrograph program
but that was putting a image into a mp3---CD.....
http://digg.com/music/Hidden_Images_in_Music_found_through_a_spectrograph - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah thats exactly what i thought when i read the title. i vaguely remember sarah lane speaking of it
- abacadabbra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its out there i did a google search for it and it was like the 3 or 4th hit down.
- grawity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and, any file in a batch file:
1. end the batch file with GOTO :EOF
2. copy /b batch.bat + music.mp3 hidden.bat
(or .cmd) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even better, you can hide _any_ file within _any_ image. And it's a basic windows function!
Learn your command prompt kiddies.
"copy /b [image].jpg + [archive].rar [finalproduct].jpg" - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, that explains that torrent I downloaded for the 77 meg gif file.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmm..... didn't they do this on The Screen Savers?
- joltjake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this was on TSS like last year..........wtf?
- mpredosin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@csyberblue
dont let them get you down, it's just the wisdom of the crowd effect. you use a complicated word and get flamed for it?? - windex99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, your wife will never find out now.
