- sillygato, on 09/22/2008, -0/+20Those are great suggestions and all, but probably the best benefit a business could get out of social networking would be to block Facebook. Lord knows how many hours my coworkers spend on that site.
Don't block Digg though... ;) - bicyclethief, on 09/22/2008, -0/+9How I Can Put In Face Time At Work And Still ***** Off With Social Networking
- lotus22, on 09/22/2008, -1/+8I thought Dunder Mifflin tried this already and it failed.
- agsinger, on 09/22/2008, -0/+6just stop trying to send out "social media press releases" or whatever people are calling them. that is the antithesis of social media!
- Medicamusic, on 10/28/2008, -0/+6I hate how companies dont even advertise their own websites anymore. All they say is "check out our myspace page at ...."
but hey, its free and its easy so I guess it works. - diggdatt, on 09/22/2008, -0/+5Buried, this article is so 2006
- zadadka, on 09/22/2008, -0/+4Rhubarb....this smacks of legitimising the tail wagging the dog.
Relationships in the corporate world are built by good products, good pre-sales service, and outstanding after-sales service.
TCO, ROI and bottom-line enhancements will never successfully offered, and profits successfully won as a result, by offering such ...gimmicks. - Rudegar, on 09/22/2008, -1/+4they can see who of the people who applied for jobs with them
got pictures of them smoking big bongs topless on facebook :P - elementop, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Said "Man of Virtues", lol.
- JCH897, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3Maybe the businesses can take aerial shots of their buildings to pull off "the angles."
- EricMiIIer, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3I would probably give her a job because of that. Imagine the office Holiday Party.
- irishjays, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2This was a short article, however, I just started a business trying to get other companies to take the first step. Of course my business is in Cleveland Ohio, so the snobby silicon valley web developers will always roll their eyes at the little midwesterner. Point is: It's important that the first step is taken regardless if it's a fortune 500, or John's house of bikes. Also so I can eat and feed babies.
- nytel, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2I don't accept "adds" from businesses.
- dwalker, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2Snorrreeee!!!!!
Surely no one takes anything as valid news from pcworld do they?
They are just a retailer. - mugupo, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2I don't is good idea, some people wanted those to be private not business matter, how you like your boss look at your facebook or myspace?

Even if the interview was done in 2006, it's still relevant. Companies are struggling with it. - Conway, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2Wow. These comments really do suck.
- richw, on 09/22/2008, -0/+2the last thing we need is more social networking sites. what's the point in having a million social networking sites, people don't want to sign up 20 different sites just so they can network with 20 different friends.
- franklymister, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1Nice job spamming Digg with your own URL violating Digg copyright...
- bradleyland, on 09/22/2008, -1/+2Social networking in a business context. I just don't get it. Maybe I'm as thick as Dvorak, but I only know a handful of people dedicated enough to their jobs that they would invest even a small fraction of their slack time in writing, contributing, or even connecting with people on a company related social networking site. You'll get the same thing you get everywhere else inside most companies. The middle-management team will jump on board because they see it as a way to blabber to their assigned group of drones, meanwhile no one else will give a *****. If you can't get someone to read a piece of paper you drop on their desk, they sure as ***** aren't going to check their bosses blog.
- xlr8rbmx, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1"Yarmis: External collaboration is a very complicated dynamic. Internally, you can control a culture and things might spread virally pretty quickly. The internal things will also occur naturally. Users will do these things themselves and always have."
This is true, but external collaboration should be encouraged as some of the best business ideas come from external collaboration. - carolyn05, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1There are really huge advantages social media brings to all business companies.. Through social media they will be known worldwide and also their product will be more visible to the public.
- leerayIG88, on 09/22/2008, -1/+2I think if everyone had fiber optic, social networking would be a lot easier imo.
- hutch768, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1I think only time will tell before the value of social networking sites will come into play in such things as sales and contract development. But for the time being, they are great places to meet people and make connections which over time can result in profitable relations. Problems also arise when looking at the issue of continuity, how do you know who you are really talking to on the sole basis of a social networking; anyone could potentially pretend to be anyone and could be a cause for hesitations when entering a virtual environment.
- cutiewithbooty, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1I agree wit BestDudeEver, companies are trying too hard to try to appeal to every possible social networking group that they just slap a bunch of web 2.0 badges on their site articles without taking the effort to make their article target one of those areas.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -1/+2if a corporation has an equal voice on the internet
social media is slavery - BestDudeEver, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1"I see so many companies come up with 137 ideas about that they want to do with social media"
I'm pretty sure a 3 is missing somewhere in this sentence but i cant figure out exactly where..... - Azuvic, on 09/22/2008, -2/+2Companies just need to really reach out to the consumer and sell something we like ,and the next thing you know it $$$ for that company
- cotx77, on 12/09/2008, -0/+0There are some cool tools out there to measure the effectiveness of a company's external social network community. Probably the best one I know of is the Harvest 2.0 reporting server from http://www.telligent.com. They give easy ways to report on conversation metrics and solutions to measure community ROI.
- Redlightpacket, on 10/28/2008, -0/+0The most simplest way every business is going to benefit through social networking is spreading the word. That is the all basic means of communication. Every business out there works on that principal, that is how highly successful businesses make money.
- CaptainChunk, on 09/24/2008, -0/+0Good article. I think businesses need to get a good plan about how they are going to use social networking. You need to have a plan.
- webguy1620, on 09/22/2008, -3/+1Start your own social networking site http://www.GotHosting.org/
