- igor2209, on 10/12/2007, -20/+136From the article: "The homeless man, whom authorities identified as one Kevin Rose, was apparently despondent after the recent shutdown of his tech news aggregation site. Witnesses reported seeing him staring into the flames and rocking slowly while mumbling a series of letters and numbers."
- 1Bit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50At least give credit where credit is due.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33Whoa, you sure love telling people you go to MIT. You mention it in your post, in your username...I wonder if it's on your license plate.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32I, for one, think it is your fault you're an *****.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25They may have to add robotic gun turrets to Internet2.
- netferret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22The disconnected from society, disconnects society.
- hayseed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21It's the other internet that Bush is referring to when he says "internets"
- Electrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"ok guys...we can't have a frat party. The internet's down."
- saifatlast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13You're smug because you mention at every chance you get that you go to MIT. It'd be like if I had a supermodel girlfriend and I made comments like, "Oh yeah my supermodel girlfriend said she heard about this, too". or if I was super-rich, and on all the Ferrari articles, I said "Yeah, Ferraris are pretty cool, but mine is always breaking down, so then I have to drive my Lambo."
Anyway, I make $20/hr and I work at home, so I better stop commenting here and get back to work.
Also, you're terrible at trolling, work on that. - pronouncable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14More like TIME TRAVELER
- Navicerts, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Not sure why people digg you down, perhaps because they didn't know the answer themselves. They could also simply be *****.
That Bush comment is funny though, so he/she is excluded from being an *****.
It is not Web 2.0

Answer: Same thing as the internet, built with a stronger backbone.
"Internet2 members leverage our high-performance network infrastructure and extensive worldwide partnerships to support and enhance their educational and research missions. Beyond just providing network capacity, Internet2 actively engages our community in the development of important new technology including middleware, security, network research and performance measurement capabilities which are critical to the progress of the Internet." - laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Dude. let it go. If I told you that I was inconvenienced by this service outage, would you care?
No because that's what a service outage does, right? It inconveniences people. It's expected.
Now, what if I were to tell you where I was at the time of the outage, you know... to sweeten
the deal, would you care any more?
See? That's why you're being dug down. Your comments are both boring and only very thinly diguise your MIT hard-on. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12It's the one Al-Gore did NOT invent.
- rlahiff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13so what cheek is the MIT tattoo on. tool.
- kidd3ckz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12stfu nerd
- laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Well it's pretty common for homeless people to have some kind of mental disorder. I guess that makes it tougher for them to do ***** like get a job, stick to a routine and organize finances. So they set the ocasional matress on fire and burn some cables.
Some people that have mental problems come from families that have money, though. That tends to change everyting. Sadly, these people also tend to damage a hell of alot more than just a few cables.
Conclusion:
"Republicans * " are just hobos with money
* = your definition - HoosbinPharteen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14it's not your fault you're an *****, you were raised that way.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9What's with spouting eugenic *****? You crazy people are way too crazy.
- alpineedge3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8god how lame. and even more lame that you said the class number. get a life, drink a beer, and don't do homework for humanities classes.
2 weeks left till i get out of this god-forsaken school... - unrealmp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@rlahiff
When you fall down, it's hard to get back on your feet.
Obviously you never had any problems like that, just looking by your misunderstanding. Yes there are people that do nothing to help themselves, but some of them are not homeless because they want to or act the way to be.
Stop being an ***** like that, and try to understand them. You don't know, you could even be one of them in the future. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Meh, you're trying too hard.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I bet he also uses [MiT] as his clan name in all games he plays. ;p
- benplaut, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Excuse me for the ignorance, but what is Internet2?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You have to admit it's kind of funny though. Some random bum is able to bring down Internet 2 by burning the tubes?
Imagine if you saw THAT headline in the New York Times. - vulcanius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4First a moth in the tubes, now a homeless man in the tubes, what kinda "bugs" are we gonna find next?
- iDiigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Am I the only one who thinks that the fact that he is homeless is irrelevant? Anyone could have thrown a lit cig down the bridge. It's like if they mentioned his skin color as well. What difference does it make? By providing his social status they will just make people hate vagabonds.
- sfrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sororities? They have women at MIT??!!
- iDiigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You are right. I have to admit that I found it funny at first and I don't want to spoil the fun for anybody. But keep in mind that some people who read the article will use it as an excuse to marginalize a group of people who are already scorned by society more than enough.
- tungsai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Slashdot comments were hilarious!!
- picardo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Vulcanius (#6507098) said: "First a moth in the tubes, now a homeless man in the tubes, what kinda "bugs" are we gonna find next?"
...a billionaire named Bill? - DarkDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Its the homeless DoS attack!!!
- fugitiveALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Up for random UHF Reference! ;)
- OnAnyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Vulcanius :
Come on, he's homeless. The tubes are safer than the streets. - rouslan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Note how the story from "regular" news mentions NOTHING about the damage to Internet2 cables, but instead of the longer commute:
http://wbztv.com/topstories/local_story_121202334.html
I wonder how many people even know what Internet2 is. - delvach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They already did, but you only see them in the director's cut.
- IanPatterson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4sparee any changee
- crl620, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The bridge's fiber also carried telecommunications for many MIT fraternities and sororities, disrupting connectivity for a few hours:

- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1homeless?...i don't think i could even afford cigarettes if i did smoke.
- RIPtechtv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man this is like where I live when a homeless man burned a bridge over the pass of Whittier, CA and Montebello. The reason was cause he was depressed and thanks to him it takes an extra 15 minutes to pass over the LA river.
- OnAnyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or he has a girlfriend who changed her name to "internet" back in 93 before anyone knew what it was, and who went down on him in Boston.
- laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Heyyy... an adult on Digg?
What are you doing here, man? Shouldn't you be somewhere else being helpful and *****?
Thanks for the links. - geeshock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't have any change, I DONT HAVE ANY CHANGE!

- stickywheelz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Reminds me of a couple years ago when some homeless guy crippled the new york city subway during rush hour after he lit a fire in the train station. To our homeless friends...Please stop playing with matches.
