Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows leaked to BitTorrent

torrentfreak.com — The final book in the Harry Potter series has been leaked to BitTorrent. A torrent with photographs of each page of the American edition of “Deathly Hallows” has shown up on multiple BitTorrent sites.

      There was a book floating around the net weeks ago that was near 650 pages, and was purported to be HPDH, but it turned out to be an elaborate piece of fanfiction. I can't seem to access this one, but it seems to have some key characteristics.

      Can anyone tell me these things: does Ron marry Hermione? Does Harry marry Ginny? Does it end in the far future? Are there some strangely added sexish scenes? If these things are in this supposed leak, then I'm guessing it's the same book that was out a while back, and a known fake.

      when you buy a digital camera is it common for the serial number to be recorded somewhere with a ID of whomever bought it?

      just seems like everyone is making a big deal about the EXIF tag.....I was expecting like an alias or email address or something.......but a serial number? don't think that would give authorities any clue..

        This is something like how the Melissa virus author was tracked down. The virus encoded the author's MAC address into a word document or something. They found another doc in the internet with the same MAC address encoded, along with a name. They searched the person's computer and found evidence.

      Nobody "made it up", they were direct pictures taken from the book itself.

According to a New York Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/17/books/17dale.html?_r=3&pagewanted=1&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin), 15th paragraph, it says "“Deathly Hallows,” which runs to 784 pages in the ink-and-paper version..."

    In the last picture, it clearly shows that the last page is 759. Unless they are referring to something else with ink-and-paper, this is most certainly a fake.

I know the guy who took the pictures, I saw them, I uploaded one of the first torrents of it. It's not a fake. "Ink-and-Paper" version of books are different than released print. I'm not sure of the exact explanation how, but they do have different typography.

So, if it's a fake, it would be surprising for them to get the ISBN right but have the wrong number of pages. I think it's more likely that the number of pages changed from the "Ink-and-Paper" version. Also, it's a damn good fake, having appropriate looking artwork and everything in a bound book. It really does seem like too much work for a hoax, though they could be relying on that for believability. Oh and it starts on page one.
