- krystalo, on 05/29/2009, -1/+16I can't wait till Hulu goes international.
- streetstealth, on 05/29/2009, -1/+12This is a great step in a great direction. But next, how about porting this to the Roku Netflix box? Or to the PS3, or the 360?
It'd be a shame if this stayed stranded on the desktop and only the occasional HTPC. - yourmanstan, on 05/30/2009, -2/+11i'd rather they re-enable boxee
- inactive, on 05/30/2009, -0/+7This seems to be the main complaint, but it isn't up to Hulu at all. It's the content providers who have a problem with distributing worldwide.
- stutimandal, on 05/29/2009, -2/+8That's very creative. And then we have Youtube trying to catch up with Hulu. Finally some website is giving Google a run for money.
- OpaqueMurdock, on 05/30/2009, -0/+5I think people are drawn to the well organized, quality(arguably) content... the "Wild West" vibe of the internet is giving way to people just wanting to "get crap done" with less hassle... and for that, the average user is always willing to pay a little. (in this case with our eyeballs glued to advertising).
Open and free is not ALWAYS best, on the rare occasion, late in the game... the big corporate mindset builds the exact thing you need. Often because it's building on tech that it has wisely let mature while it waited and watched.
I think YouTube will do just fine... but it will mainly remain what it is best at, being an indiscriminate archive (dump) for a) clips of pro material that the owners don't mind sharing, b) novice and home-made video. If you are willing to wallow in it and really dig, you MAY find great stuff buried in there. Hulu offers less rare jewels, but a MUCH greater chance of finding something that the average person will enjoy quickly. - heiroglyph, on 05/30/2009, -0/+4In my experience they are a single, short (maybe 30 seconds) add at a time and seem to be spaced quite far apart compared to network TV.
The only downside is that they don't have enough different commercials, so you do get tired of seeing the same one over and over. - rpgmakr, on 05/30/2009, -0/+3With hulu the big network companies are demonstrating that they get the internet and the future. Most of the tv shows distributed through youtube are done in a illegal way. In the end are the content creators and distributors that have to realise how the internet works and how they need to use it in a way that is good for them and the consumer. That's hulu. For americans.
- rytr23, on 05/30/2009, -1/+4works pretty well, and I like the front row remote capability.
- kanojo1969, on 05/30/2009, -2/+5I don't know if that's possible, there's so many issues with local broadcasters buying content but not using it for a long time, Hulu is never going to be allowed to usurp their rights. As an Aussie is pisses me off, but the best hope is for our local broadcasters to develop their own hulu, and I expect that's what will happen, here and in most other countries.
Dealing with all the different schedules around the world, for all the different shows, I cant' see hulu trying to manage all that. - rusty_g, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2has anyone used it under Windows Vista with a Windows Media center remote, i got one that came with my laptop, and I hardly use it, but this would be awesome!!
- CoberMan, on 05/29/2009, -2/+4Hulu really came through on this!
- kanojo1969, on 05/30/2009, -3/+5Isn't it ironic that everybody loves hulu, but hulu is owned by the big networks, a more closed-minded set of companies you wouldn't find anywhere.
and yet we're cheering them on as they take on youtube, which is owned by google who use open-source in everything they do and go out of their way to not be like big corporates.
nothing makes sense any more. - shininia, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2So put a computer on your tv.
- arjtin, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Get the pro version of tversity. You just have to add the videos you want onto your queue, and look for that folder in the videos section on the console.
- chrisappleton, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Hulu is currently working on Boxee. I suggest you update.
- sonnybobiche, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1OK, now we just need to get a bigger catalogue of good shows and movies. Seriously, I'm sick of the 1950s B horror movies that are only there because the license cost essentially nothing. Nobody cares about those movies.
- blipblopblip, on 05/30/2009, -1/+2They should release a Haiku version http://haiku-os.org/
Hulu for Haiku - cJw314, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1engrish!
-.- - MrKiTT3N, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Ive enjoyed it quite a bit,
the only things is the Ridiculous Slanted HIGHLIGHTS!
(found on.... Everything....)
Oh well who am i kidding.... Hulu you rock..... - rpgmakr, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Mmmm, I don't know in your country but we have our own "hulus" over here. They have every mainstream tv show, movie, etc. And I'm not talking about bittorrent.
- rusty_g, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1an xbox 360 port wouldn't be hard to do, since it already works on WMC
- heiroglyph, on 05/30/2009, -1/+2I don't think the lag is their problem, I haven't seen it on any of the computers I've used and I haven't heard the complaint from others.
Are you sure your computer can keep up? Maybe update the video card drivers or close some other apps or something if you think your computer should be fast enough.
Even my notebook is working with good playback. - daveisfera, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1Now they just need to integrate it into WMC like the recent Netflix addition.
- P5ycHo, on 05/30/2009, -1/+2How frequent & long are the ads?
- esc27, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1I wonder if Hulu isn't planning to leverage its content to out compete other desktop streaming apps (Boxee...) and take over that market.
- pr0t3st, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1It's basically the same product as the website only now you can use a remote control....which for me is almost pointless considering my wireless mouse and keyboard equipped laptop is hooked up to my 52" Samsung. But if I take my laptop mobile it all works out.
- ASFx, on 05/30/2009, -1/+2I think it has a good chance of happening. Hulu knows that many people have PCs hooked up to their TV and will use the Hulu desktop software anyway. The logical solution for them is to get those people to use Hulu desktop so they can still maintain control of how the content and advertising is delivered.
- OpaqueMurdock, on 05/30/2009, -1/+1This interface would make a great boxee app...
- inactive, on 05/30/2009, -1/+1Sorry, but 1950s B Horror movies are ***** awesome.
- markgeller, on 06/06/2009, -0/+0I like that these desktop apps are increasing flexibility and control for users... although it seems enabling these features directly in the browser would be more efficient so we don't have to download dozens of different desktop apps?
- heiroglyph, on 05/30/2009, -1/+1I only have two complaints.
1. Navigating the shows is clunky. You end up scrolling way to the right through too many levels of menus and when you try to go back to the menu, you often end up at the top level.
2. Doesn't work within my Media Center or allow access to my tuners or local content. Because of this, I have to choose between Hulu or Media Center or attach a keyboard and mouse just for switching between the two apps. - dibbkd, on 05/30/2009, -2/+2So can you watch Hulu Desktop on your TV via Xbox 360 Media Center?
I really rather watch TV on my TV.
Yes, I watch plenty of online content, but my TV is better than my PC screen. - bratterscain, on 05/30/2009, -1/+1I've wondered why youtube didn't implement mandatory commercials in the beginning of their clips to help pay for the costs like Hulu does. I'm on 1.5mb dsl, which is barely enough bandwidth for it but I tried Hulu desktop today on my desktop/htpc and I'm sold. It seems the future.
- Hermmunster, on 05/31/2009, -2/+2No native linux client. Without it there's nothing to look at. Move on. When a company disregards the 2nd largest OS in the world then there's something wrong with their philosophy and direction.
- betocool, on 05/30/2009, -1/+1I'm using it on my HDTV
- bblande, on 05/30/2009, -2/+1It's because people like saying "Hulu."
- tenchi71, on 05/30/2009, -2/+1Never happen. Hollywood wants you to watch their content they way THEY want you to watch it. Web delivered content will always be viewable only on small screens, ie, computer monitor and movile devices. They want to save the living room couch for the more traditional delivery methods, ie. over the air and cable.
- fireashes, on 05/30/2009, -2/+1I downloaded it. But in my computer the sounds and picture do not match, they picture lags horribly. I wish they fix it. I love hulu.com and would like to see more shows on it. I would like most of the international users to see it.
- insanebrain, on 05/30/2009, -3/+2Don't care that Hulu goes international.
- willhirsch, on 05/30/2009, -2/+0Yeah... I'd definitely rather BBC iPlayer over Hulu any day...
- alamedaman, on 05/30/2009, -3/+1not bad...
- movd, on 05/30/2009, -4/+1Just spend 40$ for a WiTopia VPN Account! Hulu Desktop is worth it!
- guybrush59, on 05/30/2009, -4/+1Still cant access outside the US which means its a piece of *****! buried
