- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I don't understand why people link to blog posts REFERENCING the article they claim to have posted.
THIS is the actual engadget mobile article:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/06/14/motorola-canary-razr-2-hands-on/
This has to stop!
That said, looks like a nice phone. Probably still too expensive, though. - Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16CNRY?
- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It'll probably still have Motorola's ***** interface/menu.
- lilazndrumrboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13just to clear things up a bit, that blue material on the phone isn't plastic, it's actually glass.......and i have reliable sources (my father works at motorola, and is currently working on this particular project). I understand it's supposed to be skinnier, but longer than the RAZR, and that accounts for the "seemingly" bigger bulge at the bottom of the phone. that's where it holds the vibe-motor, the cellular antenna, bluetooth antenna, some of the circuit board, the speakers, and the mic.
I personally like the new look, because the razr is a bit too wide. the new keypad i do somewhat like, in the sense that i like the straight feel of the keys, but i miss the menu button.....dont ask, i just like to have it there. i don't, however, like the bigger bulge at the bottom of the phone, and though the glass does look cool, i'm kinda iffy on how durable it is.......but it looks like a good phone. motorola's just trying to keep its ground, holding up since the RAZR. at least, those are my thoughts... - jacknorthstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Probably gets crappy reception in a coalmine.
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11its time to move on from the RAZR everyone has them now so they are uncool... the homeless guy down the street even has one!!
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10YA RLY!
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11My father was slaughtered by a six-fingered man.
I was eleven years old. And when I was strong enough, I dedicated my life to the study of fencing. So the next time we meet, I will not fail. I will go up to the six-fingered man and say, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." - isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Was I the only one that noticed the completely useless comparisons? Canary compared to a DS lite? WTF!. Hey I got an novel idea comparing the Canary to the RAZR.....BRILLIANT!!!1
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6At least they're in straight lines. Incredibly, Motorola seems to have realized that putting keys in wavy rows is just plain stupid. As was putting the side buttons up on the top half of the Razr, next to the screen where nobody holds a phone.
But really, for anyone in the U.S., this is just more annoying *****. We're STILL waiting for the other two successors to the RAZR, the V3i and V3x, which were due in 2005. And if this phone does come out here, it'll be worthless for a massive number of people because there'll be no CDMA version. It took what, a year or year and a half to come up with a CDMA RAZR?
And finally, if it still uses the piece-of-***** Motorola UI, and the even-worse Phone Tools software to sync, they might as well not bother. - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ hamzataha, but that's not the market Motorola has been aiming at with the RAZR.
- Destinatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/07/motorolas-canary-sings-us-a-little-song/
It was in one of their links. This is where the main link (off the pic), or even the digg link for that matter, should've gone. - RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Canary = terrible, unsexy name. Only carnivourous birds make good product names :)
Besides, I've heard that the RAZR easily breaks. My phone, while kinda ugly, is built like a tank. I'd take durability any day. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And if it turns out to be a bad phone, people will start calling it the Motorola TURKY
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I like my RAZR V3i better.
- redneckblues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Motorola FALCN... cool
- leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sorry, but I'll keep my RAZR, I bought the ***** only because it was like $40 with a 2 year agreement. ***** bandwagons.
- beforeIforget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm sure it'll go by the less-wimpy name of RAZR2
- JMartin13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it makes it extremely difficult to try and read things that are written by people who do not use correct punctuation or capitalization.....i don't care where your daddy works he should take the time to teach you how to use correct punctuation and capitalization......or at least send you to school
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome. I'm about ready to trade in my phone that can only act as a phone.
***** this. - neoian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Any idea on what carriers this phone will have? I am in the market for a new phone in the next year or so.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4For some people phones aren't meant to be "cool" but "useful"
- poutine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Typical for Moto -- amazing industrial desgin but the software and usability are the worst in the industry. Compared to Nokia's or Sony Ericsson's interfaces it's about as usable as Grandma's panties.
Motorola, go get a clue and hire some usability engineers.
And yes, I'm a mobile phone (software) engineer. - Ir0n_mE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks very sleek and beautiful. I don't like the name.
- iamhumble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yawn! Not that impress by this phone.
- JoeCool1986, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought exactly the same thing. I mean, come on, SOMEONE in the room had to had a RAZR on him when they took the pictures. bah.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How about the Motorola BETR? or the LOUDR and THINR and CHEAPR?
Are they abandoning the contracted-R naming scheme? BUMMR!!! (I like it better than "Canary".) - suomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not sold on this phone... Still a die hard Nokia fan at heart. They have REALLY pulled things together in the last year or so. The US is the only market where they don't dominate, and that is slowly changing.
- cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2really nice looking phone
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4VADR
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I always disliked the RAZR and don't like the design in this one either. They are making them ultra thin and just pushing everything down at the bottom.
IMO, sure they are thin but that fat piece at the bottom makes it useless, i'd prefer a fatter phone that is uniformly "fat" and not a super thin phone with everything packed at the bottom... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does this put out more radaition than the Razr? The Razr is ahead of the competition when it comes to giving people cancer.
(having a handsfree doesn't make me feel any better. No way my 'nads are gonna put up with that). - Ollin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Middle schoolers are going to have these next week...............*sigh*
- jayvan913, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can digg down this comment if you want, however, I would like to ask what is wrong with my comment above so that in the future I can make better ones.
- squeevey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish they would reinvent their OS. It's getting on my nerves. The menu lag definately gets me. Guess it's time to break out the moto phone tools :)
- Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you remember the days when like 80% of phones were Nokia?
Ahh the good ol' days - schmiggyjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who needs trendy over functionality... I'll stick with Nextel and my i870.
- steve693, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very sexy. The only design problem with the RAZR (it's really not a problem) is how wide it is. The thinner Canary is very cool.
- resetpassword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2awful design. you'd think a RAZR follow-up would be thinner and better-looking.
- hold_steady, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The canary??? You gotta be joking me right.
- jknation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow, since it looks skinnier with same height as Razr, it does not look like the proportion of "good-looking" phone but I must say, I like the sleekness on the Canary.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2it looks like an anorexic razr, nothing that would make me want it a lot though.
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm.. "canary" is the internal codename for the phone. The actual name of the phone will probably be something hip and snazzy. If you think "canary" is bad, the codename for the the old V36xx series phones was "vader".
- pritch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh boy, yet another Moto handset that looks like all the others. At least they seem to have made some minor design changes on this one, instead of just changing the colour a bit like they have with all the others.
Moto: Look! Look at our huge marketing campaign! It's the V3i Gold!
Cynics: What's different about the V3i Gold and, say, the V3i, or the V3i Deep Violet?
Moto: It's a different colour.
Cynics: And?
Moto: Ummmm...
I'll pretend to be vaguely interested if they manage to do anything remotely interesting with it, but my money's on yet another rehashing of the V3i. - dengzhi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the camry??
best selling family sedan 5 years in a row! - Dullboy30, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"it makes it extremely difficult to try and read things that are written by people who do not use correct punctuation or capitalization.....i don't care where your daddy works he should take the time to teach you how to use correct punctuation and capitalization......or at least send you to school
Thats a great comment coming from someone who did not capitalize "I" or the first word in that thing that can only loosly be called a sentence. - raven4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Pfsh, they realized that they were modeling the RAZR after america, too wide.
- jayvan913, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I might be misjudging the size, but, for me at least, the buttons seem too small. However, besides that, the phone does look nice.
- swanny89, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I thought the SLVR was the sequel to the razr. Also, doesn't canary seem like a terrible name for a sleek, sexy phone?
- JAppi, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6My dad works at aol and he's going to shut down your internet if you don't stop lying like that
