When it comes to printing, though, think about that for a second. Your beer can is "print". So is the box it came in, the box your kid's doll came in, etc, etc. We have a LONG way to go before print is dead.

In 20 years, our kids (metaphorically speaking, since we diggers can never get laid and we're too depraved to be allowed to adopt) will look back and say "computer screen toilet paper? hah, my hovercar can convert into a bomb shelter!"

imagine printing displays on a continuous sheet of plastic and then cutting them to size using less materials (imagine a modern printing press)
versus
assembling layers of the display on a precut sheet of plastic or glass one at a time (imagine a circuit board assembly line)
the cost reduction comes from the scalability of the process, the speed of the process, and the reduction in raw materials - Culyt, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Probably within 3 years since they have a working prototype. A decade is a *loooong* time for technological development, remember iPod's are only 7 years old and now everyone has one and probably has since 4 or 5 years of its existence. They can now be brought much cheaper too.
There are also several competing designs around, such as ePaper/eInk and so on.
Also there is heaps of development in similar technologies in general, such as general nanotechnology, transparent transistors/circuits and so on that could boost the production of this.
