- phildo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You could probably put yer wang in it, if that's your thing.
/just sayin' - booty0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As a hunter, here's how I'd use it. I like reload my own ammunition and create custom loads that provide a combination of accuracy and lethality for a specific firearm and specific game. There are myriad bullet types and manufacturers who, of course, make claims as to the performance of their bullets. By shooting my custom loads into the gel, I can verify the characteristics of various bullets to be certain of their performance when it comes to actually shooting game.
- phildo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Haha, you said "shooting my custom loads".
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's the stuff they use on mythbusters
- amishjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2h, i'll just use jello, easier and tastier..keeps bill cosby happy too
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Caution; Do NOT test ballistics gel on face.
... - mrgomel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The cool thing about ballistic gel is you can take a whole freakin 6x2x2 foot block of this stuff and testfire an AK-47 through it and observe what happens.
What you see is that the bullet doesn't go straight, it wobbles sideways creating an awful wound. Furthermore it goes very deep into the gel. - Parks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3phildo beat me to it. Put something "like human skin" in a computer geek forum and you are going to peak the imaginations of virgins and the "un-layable" (ie people who like potato chips better than trying to improve their social skills and in turn possibly getting laid). I hope it doesnt give alot of people rashes. This is as bas as porn. You know someone is going to do this.
- ardnut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the Mythbusters episodes does show how they make it.
- kramit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WOW! How cool, you guys who dont know what this is should get over to www.tvtorrents.com and download a few eps of "Mythbusters". Then you will be all like, wow, i want to make my own balistics gel.
- m85476585, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought Mythbusters used a special mix, not pectin and gelatin.
- puny_midget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cant imagine what the average person would ever need that stuff for. "To simulate resistance of human flesh?" For when you're going to shoot yourself? I just dont see it happening...
- sock2828, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yuck a ballistics's gel fight that would be like throwing hunks of human flesh at each other........ cool :P
- HitLines, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wildthing, the second part of your comment is correct.
Ballistic gelatin is a mixture of gelatin dissolved in water. Ballistic gelatin closely simulates the density, viscosity and electrical resistance of human and animal muscle tissue, and is used as a standardized medium for testing the terminal performance of firearms ammunition. Ballistic gelatin is used rather than actual muscle tissue due to the ability to carefully control the properties of the gelatin, which allows consistent and reliable comparison of terminal ballistics.

The Mythbusters use it all the time to simulate human flesh resistance: http://www.m5industries.com/html/mythbusters17.htm - sobiloff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BZZT! This is not ballistic gelatin. Ballistic gelatin is calibrated so that results are comparable between and across different test sessions. The standards for composition and creation of the gelatin were established by the International Wound Ballistics Association. Ballistic gelatin uses one of two controlled brands of gelatin (Kind & Knox Type 250A Ordnance Gelatin, or Vyse Ballistic Gelatin) and follows a different method of creation.
All this idiot did was make bad Jello. No digg. - flite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1think csi when they're test firing guns in the lab.
- Wildthing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1does it stop bullets or does it simulate impact on an object like a human? And no, let's not test it out with me behind it. ;D
- Penn42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ahhhh, Digg is finally going to make it big. We have all just been waiting for the Digg that "gets some idiot to shoot himself, and have his idiot fammily sue Digg" for his death. Yay!
- RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to try it.
BALLISTIC GEL FIGHT!!!
But will somone find out if it works? - Nullifidian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and of course we all know where we get gelatin?
Right?
Animal bone marrow boiled to leach off the gel, dehydrate it to a powder, add food coloring. Yum it's Jello! Or err Ballistic's gel! - ogcujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry to burst your bubble (to the author) but this is 100% WRONG!!!! This is not how you make Ballistic Gelatin!!! Stop misinforming people. Do your research/homework. ogcujo@aol.com
- RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yuck a ballistics's gel fight that would be like throwing hunks of human flesh at each other........ cool :P
Yep, that's the point. =D
I imidiatly thought Mythbusters too. - masterchief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That just means they shut down the account temporarily until we get stuff adjusted
dont worry, it'll be up soon - missingfink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0balistics gel is used to test the penatration of a bullet and the reaction to a human it will cause. it is very easy to make the ingredients are distilled water and 100 percent pure gelatin go to you local super market and pick up a few boxes of knox unflavored gelatin and a gallon of distilled water the recipie is as follows one 1oz box of knox gelatin to 1cup of water this will only make .75 pounds if you need more just double or tripple the recipie. to make you need to cut the top of a 20oz soda bottle this is used as a mold pour in one cup of distilled watter this must now be heated in your microwave for about three minutes. take your hot water and slowly add the gelatin while stiring the liquid mix very very thurolghy make sure you have know lumps. let the mix stand at room tempature for 4 hours. now you must refrigerate for 18 to 36 hours at 35 to 40 degrees farenheit. you have now made balistic gel. this is not cheap the gelatin costs about $1.50 per box and you need 16 box for one full gallon of water. when you shoot please be carful this recipie is exactly the same as the FBI quality balistics gel
ENJOY A Fink - Aelbric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I sense a whole new crop of Darwin Awards coming.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1motor bike matt
how can u say yawn
bg is fun as - feedback41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is how to make ballistics gel...........
all you do is add 10 parts water with one part gelitan than add cinnsmon lesf oil and proprianic acid and cool for a day or two.
if anyone plays runescape add me to your friends list and ill sell you stuff!!!!my names feedback41 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1mmm jello... :P~
- tacocat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm assuming most people are like me and are digging without actually knowing what ballistics get is.
- multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dug because the comments are so amusing.
- hobodave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The properties of this gelatin are remarkably close to 'official' ballistics gel. I've been making batches of this stuff (similar recipe) for years now, and the margin of difference between the two is well worth the difference in price. Expect to pay about $350+ per 50lb batch of ballistics gel, and probably about $50+ per 50lb batch of this stuff.
The expensive stuff is more reliable shot after shot. I can shoot a 165gr Speer Gold Dot JHP .40 S&W round from my Glock 23 into true ballistics gel about 100 different times, and expect 90% of the shot penetrations to be from 18.5" to 19.5". Shooting into my own cheap batch I can expect the same percentage of penetrations to be from 17" to 20". I get similar results with 180gr rounds too, and various caliber weapons (though .40 S&W is what I use the most by far). The rounds all open completely and consistently between the two types of gel as well (or else they'd be flying out the back). Go buy a gun and try some :) Well worth the money saved. Please be safe! - jwax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just thought of making my own Christmas presents this year!
Hmm. Now to make the mold....... - masterchief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the site's back up
sorry for the inconvenience
Tyler Durden and Co. - hax0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^ sock2828, especially if you made it with red food coloring! you could through chunks of low grade ground beef in there to make it more realistic too.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good, I'm not the only person who immediatly thought "Mythbusters" when they read the title.

The Fifth Rule Dot Com - beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pffft, gel doesn't have bones nor muscle...gel is good for playing, but useless for "real world" wound study...the US army has and always will use sheep/goats/iraqi's for thsi reason.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0 Makes wonderful Christmas presents! ...that giggle.

Yes...and to continue the GTA-inspired virginboi fantasy, you get to kill it when you're done! - Silverbird, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This guy is just making some kind of pseudo ballistic jello. If you want to create a proper ballistic gelatin, then you need a standardized recipe. Dr. Martin Fackler, formerly of the U.S. Army Wound ballistics laboratory concluded a 10% mixture gave the most realistic simulation of muscle tissue. The REAL recipe is here:

Screw cats, I was starting to run out of neighbors. ;) - Monkey69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0imagine filling a canon with the stuff an fireing it at something .. hehe
- themajor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Doesn't matter if you have a use for it, it would be cool to make.
The Major - booty0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I shoot my custom loads into game also... Har!
Seriously though, stacked newspaper works pretty well for bullet testing also. - Ares, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Quote> Finally, something to test my ninja sword on...
