- amrush4th, on 01/08/2008, -10/+213If you got an HD-DVD player for christmas...I hope its a really good DVD upscaler.
- sideshowmel91, on 01/08/2008, -15/+153I don't care which of the 2 wins, I just want one definitive, agreeable HD disc format.
- wilsgrant, on 01/08/2008, -6/+88There is this new website called Ebay I have been hearing good things about.
- Burritoking924, on 01/08/2008, -20/+81OK, so me and a few other guys from Digg are planning a funeral, memorial service, and maybe a 21 gun salute when this does happen. Does anyone want to be driving the Hearst full of HD DVD players?
- Clearz, on 01/08/2008, -12/+67It always came down to a simple matter of storage space for me Blu-Ray with its 50Gb DL disks with potential to goto 200GB on 8 layers made it my choice from the beginning. Now I'll just wait about another year for the burners and media to drop to cheap prices and then I'll buy one for my computer. If you hate Blu-Ray because you are anti-Sony then you are a retard plain and simple.
- otakushark, on 01/08/2008, -1/+49eBay it before the average Joe finds out about this.
- Me1000, on 01/08/2008, -0/+46Use it to upscale your DVDs
- mb3581, on 01/08/2008, -1/+47I think I'm going to put my $99 HD A2 up on eBay while they are still going at a decent rate. I figured $100 you cant go wrong but I don't really want to get stuck with a useless player if I can recoup my investment.
- deadbaby, on 01/08/2008, -7/+51Doesn't really matter. Look at the HD-DVD release schedule. It's awful.
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html - iLemon, on 01/08/2008, -5/+44Too many people think sony single handedly developed bluray technology.
- CraigJ, on 01/08/2008, -2/+40Personally I prefer the capacity of BD, but I prefer the region free HDDVD. Oh well, AnyDVD HD makes this irrelevant I guess...
- Weip, on 01/08/2008, -2/+37Will it blend?
- DiggUmFrog, on 01/08/2008, -11/+45So, when does the Xbox Blu-ray player come out?
- joshuaer, on 01/08/2008, -1/+35Save it in 10 years put it on whatever site killed ebay and sell it for 5000.00 as a Rare HD-DVD player which is a great example of not only the old Disc Technology but an example of the format wars!
- JHaze, on 01/08/2008, -5/+39"UPDATE: We have received word from Paramount/DreamWorks that although they continue to support HD DVD, they will not be making any new high-def title announcements at CES 2008"
Sounds like someone is laying the foundation to leave. - mikeazorin, on 01/08/2008, -1/+34Blatant format fanboyism aside, it's nice to see that the format war's about over.
- badjokes, on 01/08/2008, -14/+45well said. too many jerk offs automatically hate blu-ray because of sony.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/08/2008, -11/+41Ok, Digg, what the hell should I do with my new Toshiba HD-DVD player, can't return it.
- staxofmax, on 01/08/2008, -7/+37I never understood why a person would be all for Blu-Ray and against HD-DVD, or vice versa. It's like being in love with CD-R, and hating CD+R with a passion. I guess there are fanboys for everything, even the most trivial objects apparently.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -4/+31I'll provide 10 of the 21 guns...
- nightmare1228, on 01/08/2008, -3/+29I'll dig.
- colincornaby, on 01/08/2008, -20/+45Um no, Paramount just said today they are not ditching HD-DVD.

- s1mph0ny, on 01/08/2008, -1/+24This might make Michael Bay happy, but I'm afraid it won't help his sanity.
- 2ndrookie, on 01/08/2008, -11/+32Game... Set... Match.
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -1/+21With the latest AnyDVD HD, I haven't found a single Blu-Ray title that I can't make a perfect unencrypted DRM removed ISO image and copy of. I'd say that's pretty damned cracked if you ask me.
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -5/+24Twit. A fast google will show you TDK, Phillips, JVC, Imation, FugiFIlm, Memorex, Maxell, Ricoh, Sony and Verbatim brand discs available to soon-to-be available. I'd say Sony doesn't have much of a say in the matter.
Do your ***** research before bashing Sony. - SenorCardgage74, on 01/08/2008, -1/+20A William Randolph or a Patty?
- smacksaw, on 01/08/2008, -9/+28Someone please comment on this - I don't really care about domestic releases all that much. In my house we speak more than one language and like foreign films anyway. How does this affect me? I bought HD-DVD because it's region-free and I want to see movies from other regions. Just because they are pulling support how does this affect other areas? Things where a movie is Blu-Ray here and then HD-DVD exclusive in Europe because of licencing and publishing or whatever.
I have Blu-Ray anyway. I like it. I like them both. I'm more than happy to buy my movies on Blu-Ray, I just don't want to lose the ability to get imports. Help me Diggers. A lot of people here seem to know what is going on, so clue me in! - jazzyinco, on 01/08/2008, -1/+19I don't feel bad that I spent $100 for my HD-DVD player, but I do feel sorry for those that spent $500+ for theirs.
- davidrools, on 01/08/2008, -1/+19I'm gonna keep mine and stock up on hddvd movies when they're $1-$5 a piece. Then maybe pick up a combo player when they're just barely more expensive than the standalone bluray players.
- TylerM, on 01/08/2008, -1/+19Blu-ray and Xbox together in the same sentence looks so weird.
- skinrock, on 01/08/2008, -6/+24Sony and the dozen other companies.
- xTRUMANx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+17China probably. Along with the Vii and Polystation 3.
- lunarworks, on 01/08/2008, -6/+23Even though I don't currently have an HDTV (my old TV died at the wrong time a couple of years ago), I'm quite pleased that there will be a DEFINITIVE HD media format when I finally make the jump.
- fantasticFlan, on 01/08/2008, -3/+20As with Blu-Ray, it was a collaboration.
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -4/+21It wasn't just their plan, you know. Blu-Ray was a bunch of companies, and Sony took the gamble to put it in their game console. It helped the format, and it no doubt will help the PS3 moving forward.
It's no different than HD-DVD. Instead of using Java, HD-DVD uses a Microsoft something or other, and Microsoft backed it with some others. Pretty much the same DRM. They put it on the XBox 360 (well, as an add-on to make the base system cheaper.)
I'm really not sure what angle you're trying to attack Sony with. It sounds like the "unfounded kid argument that makes no sense because I am a sheep" argument. - HonoredMule, on 01/08/2008, -2/+18Left as is.
- ripple123, on 01/08/2008, -10/+26"The disc space has nothing to do with the quality". You so don't know what your talking about its not funny. I used to get angry at statements as stupid as this one, but I realized it was a futile exercise.
- XxLindyxX, on 01/08/2008, -0/+16Yes, the dollar can buy fewer in foreign currency, but his PURCHASING POWER is still virtually the same, except for maybe a small adjustment for inflation. Please study economics and learn what things mean before you start throwing them around.

- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -6/+21So, because the manufacturer saves a buck, and doesn't pass that savings on to the consumer, you think it's better for the average consumer? HD-DVD titles are no cheaper than Blu-Ray. And to tell you the truth, HD-DVD can be complicated to produce if you want the highest quality movies (aka over 15GB, which most Blu-Ray titles are) you have to produce dual-layer HD-DVD's.
They could theoretically put a DVD format on a second side of a Blu-Ray disc too, but I don't see the point. I guess it could encourage people to buy into the HD format because they'll already have HD formatted movies in their DVD collection.
I think the better format is better for the average consumer, because it's a better format, not because it's slightly cheaper to manufacture. - MakinBacon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+14Will they call the new add-on "X-Ray"?
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -0/+14I have about 20 BD movies and AnyDVD HD has been able to copy all of them. Not sure what studios are using this special thing that I haven't seen yet..
- wukillabee, on 01/08/2008, -10/+24Compact disc did well for them
- xTRUMANx, on 01/08/2008, -5/+19Cool [INSERT USELESS INFORMATION ABOUT MYSELF NO ONE CARES ABOUT]
- fantasticFlan, on 01/08/2008, -3/+16Don't forget the 3.5" floppy.
