- unsurmountable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41this issue is becomeing very concerning
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Will this make diggnation?
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33I've noticed that stories magically appear on the front page with many dozens of diggs when I've never even seen them in the 'digg all' page where you can see them all. That's always struck me as odd. I should be able to watch stories start off with 1 digg and grow, but there's always stories that come out of nowhere. I think that's the effect of what is noted about the same 17 people always digging some stories (in the same order, even).
Sure, Digg can do what it wants, but don't pretend it's completely user-driven. It's not. - seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34ha, content under review!
well at least it made it to the front page. - jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31will be buried soon, the dupe didn't last long http://digg.com/links/Slashdot_chimes_in_on_DIGG_censorship_controvery
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28First thing I thought of.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Here's the deal. Kevin or Jay needs to make some sort of a statement about how digg works. It's interesting how so much Open Source things are discussed and lauded on this site, but Digg itself still remains an enigma.
I don't think the problem is as bad as a lot of people are thinking, but it is an issue that needs to be addressed as Digg gets bigger and bigger and becomes a real force in the media. It's pretty obvious that there's a human hand involved in getting stories to the front page, and it's not just a strict algorithim that is dictating what makes it to the front page. This doesn't mean that Kevin Rose and the other people at Digg are trying to push an agenda or censor user submissions.
This whole thing may open a big hole in Digg's process of getting stories to the front page, but really look at the alternatives, and it's not really anything different
Also, anyone who now thinks that Digg is just a smokescreen to get Kevin Rose's motives furthered should just put their tinfoil caps back on. - SoccerBoy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Take a look at this post:
http://digg.com/technology/Digg_Corrupted
Buried and has 400+ DIGGS - babbling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Finally this is on the front page.
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I wonder how many times things need to be reported in order for something to get burried.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18The following articles were also submitted but were buried before this made frontpage.
http://digg.com/technology/Digg_Corrupted (414 Diggs and not available via search nor on frontpage)
http://www.digg.com/links/Slashdot_chimes_in_on_DIGG_censorship_controvery (127 diggs without being on frontpage/and Buried)
http://www.digg.com/links/Story_about_Digg_s_corruption_deleted_within_seconds. (69 Diggs)
http://digg.com/links/Boing_Boing_posts_link_questioning_Digg_s_methodologies (55 Diggs) - phoenixd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17And its been removed from the front page... lol... Guess they were on lunch...
- pyrox420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19That's why i use ad-block... :)
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17People care because Digg is a great idea, in concept.
I stopped reading Slashdot not just because I liked Digg better but because I was sick of Slashdot. - kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17"Warning: The Content in this Article is Under Review"
hahahaha, wow, this story won't go away until it's addressed digg, stop burying it! - CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18You're supposed to post links to blogs and youtube videos dumbass!!
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1744 minutes! It is now buried! Digg just died a little for me today.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Buried in 5... 4... 3...
:/ - Moocat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17All I can say is, WTF...
Add Forever Geek back, admit you were rigging the system, even if it was only for a "few" stories and uninstall your little "my stories are the best" tool. Either that, or I almost guarantee another site will fill the void you are currently neglecting, SOCIAL CONTENT, not editorial whims. - troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14not buried yet and only 5 people reported as lame
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15We like it thats why we don't want to go! We want it to be the best!.. and more importantly honest
- dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It says on the top that "the content under this article is under review"!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I think they're being lenient with this one, because there's a history here - and it's a bit disturbing. Check out this link - the story was buried early (in less than an hour after posting), but thanks to links from boingboing and others, has received more than 400 diggs in less than four hours:
http://digg.com/technology/Digg_Corrupted - Mechanized, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I posted an article about how google recently (last week) is co-operating with China to heavily censor and re-market their search engine and other emerging ventures - and it was immedeately deleted. Not even buried.
that really pissed me off. - Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Sounds like a pro-war American talking to a protestor "If you don't like it get out". That's the whole point of this article, standing up for something you like and wanting it to be better.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Plenty of times; when you mod "inaccurate" enough, an article is "under review", which pretty much invariably means it'll be off the front page within a few (minutes|hours).
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Lots.. Yeah, I suppose I'll edit this since it isn't very helpful. Anyway, when enough people report the article as [something], it flags it for review. If you read Digg often enough, you'll see this a lot.
- cpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Of course, the Digg creators/moderators/administrators can do whatever they want. It is completely up to them. HOWEVER - if they are going to claim things are democratic - then they need to truly be democratic. My place of employment can't stand even constructive critism of itself. I really hope Digg isn't headed for the same.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"Go back to slashdot if you dont like it."
Do you even know what /. is? Users submit stories and EDITORS pick the best. How is that less of a censorship environment??? - Darren07, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Hurry and post your comments before they (Digg) delete this news post.
I lost my faith in Digg now. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You can't silence the screaming of 1000 voices, Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Good comment. If digg is using human intervention, say so - after all, it's their site. They can do what they want.
But to claim that the site is "user-driven" when there appears to be a human hand involved in the process...that's a credibility killer. Digg has made a lot of hay on the assumption that the site essentially runs itself, and that stories are self selected based on merit. Perhaps it's time for them to clarify a bit more what actually happens behind the curtain. - socket, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maybe due to the fact the jig is up?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7and poof the story is gone, a few people report it as lame/ect and the story is gone. A bit over powering i would say, lame to digg
- babbling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They just proved the story correct...
- tazamore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7A story should not dissappear completely because it leads to this kind of speculation. Instead replace the body of the story with "The content and link of this story has been removed. Reason: 715 lamness reports"
- *blu*, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The fact that this story got pulled from the front page is a bunch of crap. Digg needs to take responsibility for its actions. They say "we wouldn't be anything without the users" - but now when the users demand an explanation, they run for cover. BS.
- chewbaka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7By my count 4 dupes + this article, two of which have been buried.
At least they can't bury this one anymore; too many people have seen it.
Now let's see how the community reacts. - troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9not buried yet
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6the problem people are having is that it is not transparent. we only see howmany people dugg it and we never know how many reported it lame etc.
was it 300 lames to 500 diggs? if so majority doesn't rule on digg.
all people want is transparency. - GhettoCash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7We all love digg, but we want answers.
- umrgregg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes, it is off the frontpage. Another community concern has been digg-bombed.
- dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Agreed. Newsvine admins are full of crap, not to mention have the mentality of a twelve-year old. I'm glad the hype about them has died down after their public launch.
- desiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually, I see this message at the top:

If it's automatic, some information as to how this process works might help. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7try to post a digg about anything negative apple and see how fast it gets removed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That was the best episode of Happy Days ever aired.
- seppie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yup! totally agree.
Ads are ok. They are a necessary fact for big sites that cost a lot of money. But PLEASE make a policy to only allow ads that are SILENT.... thanx :) - bradisbest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How can you see how many reports a story has?
- GimmeYoShoes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5corruption in a profit business? never!
