- skidork, on 11/08/2009, -3/+33Does anybody else see this full-page ad? AdBlock plus fail. =(
As for the story, this may be true on average, but it is definitely not true for everyone. - borez, on 11/08/2009, -2/+31Uggg... advertising has thrown up on digg again.
I'm hating this, it's assaulting my senses. I'm instantly burying anything with this ***** from now on to be honest. - pstroll, on 11/08/2009, -1/+23I'M GONNA PUNCH THAT DRAGON ***** RIGHT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AS SOON AS HE AIN'T LOOKING
- teamr, on 11/08/2009, -2/+18DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS IN STORES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW
- AngelX, on 11/08/2009, -0/+14I am burying this story solely because of this ad.
Dear Internet marketers, GET THE HINT: I do not want to be bombarded with your product's presence in my internet. I will not click on your ad, let alone buy your product. Stop viewing me as a dim-witted consumer-- Do you really think your obtrusive ads will make me any more likely to leave my computer and spend money on your product? No, it won't, so please, let me browse in peace and LEAVE ME ALONE.
Thanks. - istoner, on 11/08/2009, -1/+12How do I undigg digg?
- fdsa1342, on 11/08/2009, -0/+10Yeah really, this is just plain rude. It's like linking to a huge .pdf and not warning somebody.
- Kronos6948, on 11/08/2009, -0/+9Add this to Adblock Plus:
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/*
and thank Infinitus64 for giving it to us. - Liam000, on 11/08/2009, -0/+8Digg is now officially break.com
I'm out guys.... we had a good run but thats it. - LimeParrot, on 11/08/2009, -0/+8hOLY ***** SOME GUY ON MY LEFT IS WATCHING ME TYPE NO0O0O0O0
- pimpofpixels, on 11/08/2009, -0/+6so, antisocial people don't use social networks? and bloody dudes and dragons surround me.
- veggiebenz, on 11/08/2009, -1/+6People that are by nature socially inclined also tend to use social networking sites a lot.
Groundbreaking study there, einstein. - Warom, on 11/08/2009, -1/+6Rather than the more likely:
People who socialize more with friends and neighbours use facebook and myspace more? - Kronos6948, on 11/08/2009, -0/+5Thanks to infinitus64, we can block this obnoxious ad with adding this to Adblock Plus:
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/* - Kosh, on 11/08/2009, -1/+6Or, you know, the causation could go the other way.
- inactive, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4That's odd. I heard on the radio like a week ago that a study found if you used facebook that you were less social.
- FlyingSquidwolf, on 11/08/2009, -0/+4Profile > Find the Story > Click UnDigg :)
***** FULL-PAGE ADS!!!! - alsazen, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3I'm not really bothered about the background advert (even though I have Adblock Plus) - it's just a background image - any links/banners are still being blocked.
What is pissing me off though is that the page is being restricted to 900px so the background will display.... and that happens whether you have the background image blocked or not - kinerry, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3also in rom form
- nilhilustfreder, on 11/08/2009, -0/+3Correlation vs. causation and such
- rushover, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Digg is currently ranked #109 on Alexa. Translation - generates at least 6 figures on a bi-weekly to monthly basis. Also consider that it is not a dating or porn site, so the advertisements it can display are not segregated to a certain type, which gives them access to the higher-paying advertisers. Not to mention full-page EA/BioWare advertisements. That is some dead serious cash being generated on a monthly basis. But hey, you'd probably be milking the ***** out of it too.
- bizchris, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Correlation does not equal causation. Maybe social people are likely to both visit Facebook and visit their neighbors.
- borez, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2It's getting that way isn't it.
- Kronos6948, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Add this to adblock plus:
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/* - gamepr0, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2I think it's better to use stylish for firefox, or glimmerblocker for safari to change the stylesheet and force the background to have the default color.
body {
background: rgb(229, 236, 243) !important;
}
That one should work perfectly, now I'm not sure about this one but it works for my monitor with a 1280px width resolution. This piece of css code will force the page to have the default width it has on all the other pages (at least on my resolution).
#container {
min-width: 1200px !important;
}
hope it helps, tested only on safari for mac with glimmerblocker css modifying. - spatty, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2whats dragon age?
- kjones555, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2I could use some more Facebook friends...anyone wanna add me? Anyone?
*sob* - ww3ace, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Isn't that the whole point of facebook?
- guestworker, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Tried facebook for a week and got bored. Virtual friends do not amount to anything. Go out and find real ones. Get off your ass.
- Mateo2, on 11/08/2009, -1/+2The classy tech companies don't use full screen background ads. Google has created an empire on small, complementary ads.
- kinerry, on 11/08/2009, -2/+3so you have no friends?
- dragossh, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1Dear internet surfer,
Our studies show that the more prominent, flashy and obtrusive the ad is, it's more likely to be clicked accidentally. We'd like to announce you that since this ad is a huge non-clickable background that already distracts you from the content you are trying to view, we will also make it so that every click on this page redirects you to our product. We hope you'll like it even more.
Thanks,
Anonymous Internet Marketer - doomestic, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1...and Russel Crowe rears his ugly head onto our comments...
- inactive, on 11/08/2009, -1/+2The black background doesn't look great either...
- fdsa1342, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1Anyone else getting a 404 error on that link or am I just ***** retarded today?
- eevee7, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1Why the min-width?
mine looks like this:
#container {max-width:1200px !important} - thatbirdguy, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1Once again - correlation != causation
- MOJIRA, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1HE'S ALWAYS WATCHING!!!
- LimeParrot, on 11/08/2009, -1/+1DOES NOT... COMPUTE O_O
- gamepr0, on 11/08/2009, -1/+1max-width didn't seem to override the rule set on the css file digg gives me, where the max-width rule is unfortunately followed by !important. min-width was the first thing I thought of to set a bigger width anyway and it worked, I didn't bother to find out what stopped it from working when trying to modify max-width.
- gamepr0, on 11/08/2009, -1/+1I fixed it with userstyles, here's the code: http://digg.com/tech_news/Got_friends_Now_you_can_ ...
- MOJIRA, on 11/08/2009, -1/+1That's exactly the opposite of what this article says.
- inactive, on 11/08/2009, -2/+1When did this new ad system start?.
Guess I missed the news.... - GoingPostal, on 11/08/2009, -6/+4I hate advertising also, but it is a necessary evil. The vast majority of people won't be willing to pay for content and these websites aren't cheap to develop and run.
- Drakoi, on 11/08/2009, -7/+5got facebook and digg? = no friends.

What is Digg?
