- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/04/2009, -2/+366That wouldn't be porn. It would be a crash course in gynecology.

- zeazzz, on 11/04/2009, -3/+317What a lame name. "Ultra High Definition"...what's next, "Mega Ultra High Definition"? If that's the case, then I definitely can't wait until "Super Mega Ultra High Definition".

- Amadeus2490, on 11/04/2009, -3/+258That last speaker is a secondary subwoofer that's only activated at key scary moments. It utilizes BrownNote technology.
- DirtyVicar, on 11/04/2009, -1/+250I can't wait for Netflix streaming UHD... given my AT&T DSL connection (300 Kbps!) I'll have to spend five months buffering a movie.
- DevinWatson, on 11/04/2009, -4/+2048k Porn, not sure I'd want that...
- RJ0534, on 11/04/2009, -0/+182Well its going to sound like surround sound surrounded by sound surrounding more sounds.
- iheartbakon, on 11/04/2009, -0/+148Ludicrous Definition
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -3/+146YOU MEAN MY TV IS NOT PLAYING MY VHS IN HD!?!?!?!?!
- AmyVernon, on 11/03/2009, -4/+132My fellow '24' fans have already complained that Elisha Cuthbert didn't look hot in HD. What's it gonna be like in UHD?
- BREZZZ, on 11/04/2009, -1/+109Alright, when this comes out I can finally afford an HDTV.
Or not. - alpha88, on 11/04/2009, -0/+95I want one even more now.
- cliffzdude, on 11/04/2009, -1/+95This'll be great for those watching 55 foot screens from 10 feet away.
- Jaime2000, on 11/04/2009, -0/+90Indeed. Just try searching for "vagina" in google search while limiting the images to higher than 8MP to get an idea.
- evil-doer, on 11/04/2009, -2/+91yo dawg, i heard you like surround sound.
- dmbchris, on 11/04/2009, -5/+94My mom loves watching Netflix on her Roxio in sub-DVD quality on a 60" plasma TV and hates Blu-Ray because the player takes so long to boot up. The future is in delivery, not resolution for the majority of consumers.
- Nohpex, on 11/04/2009, -1/+89/salute
- XPEHBAM, on 11/04/2009, -4/+92Most people don't get the full experience from 1080p anyway due to many factors including lighting and distance. I don't see a commercial use for this.
- PCMichiana, on 11/03/2009, -5/+90*sigh*
- sanman, on 11/04/2009, -1/+83porn will be reduced to CG models
and even those will be airbrushed - jordantneff, on 11/04/2009, -1/+81WTF an 8k tv? Film industry standard is working with a 4k plate. I mean now with the red camera more movies are being shot in higher res but I can't think of anything being shot in 8k. Besides, most post production is only done at a 2k level, and even ***** like star wars all the effects were done at only 1080p because it's faster and there was not the demand for any higher res (even 1080p looks fine in theaters, some movies are coming to theaters shot in regular HD). I just don't get it. I could see maybe a 2k tv, 4k is a stretch... but 8k?
- wondertwins, on 11/04/2009, -1/+79***** will look too crisp
- evil-doer, on 11/04/2009, -3/+78ultra high definition 2 - electric boogaloo.
- CamZak, on 11/04/2009, -12/+82About 30% of the population can't tell the difference between SD and HD. With 720 vs 1080p, the benefits are marginal. In order to see a difference, you need to sit closer than ideal. This seems a bit more like a way to get people with a lot of money to buy technology there's no reason to.
- GoldenChaos, on 11/04/2009, -0/+67TV is more important. Your silly car can wait another 50 or 300 years.
- Charlie1er, on 11/04/2009, -1/+66You win an internet sir!
- noahgelman, on 11/04/2009, -8/+69You wanna stop pirating? Make movies too ***** big for the CDs
- bstew22, on 11/04/2009, -1/+62just wait until it's OVER 9000!
- djrbx, on 11/04/2009, -16/+76Why get a blue ray player? Just connect a PC with media center capabilities and your set. .mkv for high def videos, music, and downloads.. Your all set.
- i23Photography, on 11/04/2009, -0/+57I can still see the pixels...
- RJ0534, on 11/04/2009, -0/+55Screw this I just want a brain-computer media interface.
- sleeknerve, on 11/04/2009, -3/+56Super Duper Mega Ultra High Definition
- Fishnchipsman, on 11/04/2009, -1/+50What the hell is 22.2 sound going to be like?
- txballer, on 11/04/2009, -0/+49Just to put things into perspective you'll need 1.1TB of space to store an hour of UHD video and 3 times the equivalent of an OC3 connection to stream it and I don't even want to think about the wattage it would take to broadcast something like that over the air.
- temsi, on 11/04/2009, -1/+48Well, your problem is that your test isn't really all that accurate.
You're playing a 720p video on a 1080p screen, which means it's stretched and will not look "clean".
A real test is if you have two screens side by side, one with 720p native resolution and the other with 1080p native resolution, each playing a video of a resolution that matches the screen.
Then, you can get into arguing about how much detail you can make out from a proper viewing distance (for a 22" screen, the appropriate viewing distance for video playback is around 2-3 feet).
The key is proper viewing distance, not how much detail you can make out by walking up to it.
A 100" screen at a distance of 11 feet or more, will not have noticeably more detail at 1080p than it will at 720p.
A 60" screen requires a viewing distance of at least 6 feet, at which point you cannot really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p just by looking at it.
If you walk closer or if you look very closely, you'll probably notice additional sharpness, but if you're just watching a movie, then contrast ratio, brightness and color representation are all more important than raw resolution, once you've reached 720p. - Apokalyps2547, on 11/04/2009, -1/+47/golfclap
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/04/2009, -2/+46Unless we all grow a few more pairs of ears, it will basically sound exactly the same.

- fragMasterFlash, on 11/04/2009, -0/+42So when do I get a 70' IMAX screen in my living room?
- bigstinky, on 11/04/2009, -0/+41Real sex is already UHD.
Not that I would know. It's just a hunch. - anmaxp, on 11/04/2009, -1/+42"sir, i am looking for a 42" LED UHD TV WITH UDMI, DLNA and SRS XT"
wait, wat? - jack2454, on 11/04/2009, -1/+40"The market in Europe is expected to hit 5 percent penetration by 2021 and then zip up to more than 28 percent by 2025."
lol - PinkyTheWinky, on 11/04/2009, -1/+39I agree with you here... I think people are digging you down because the tech crowd notices quality more. We see pixels but normal consumers just see tv....
- gadgetlust, on 11/04/2009, -2/+40It will be just like wearing headphones.
- BREZZZ, on 11/04/2009, -2/+40If it takes 5-10 years to come out you will not have to worry about that.
